3. Cautions, Limitations and Restrictions ----------------------

Note the following limitations when using the printer driver or printing a document with a printer.

- On a computer where Ver. 1.xx of the GARO printer driver is already installed, Ver. 2.00 or later of the GARO printer driver cannot be installed with the New Driver item on the Advanced sheet of the Properties dialog box.

- When the Client computer is connected to a printer on the network using Point and Print and, if the GARO printer driver stored on the server is updated, the printer driver in the Client side is also updated.
If the Properties dialog box of the printer driver is opened during the driver's update from version1.xx toversion2, printer driver may not work correctly.
When the Properties dialog box is opened just after the update, wait for a couple of minutes after opening the Printer folder.

- In order to install the printer driver, you must log into the system as an Administrator.

- When using Windows XP, if you install the printer driver from the installer, every time the computer re-starts installation may be performed by Plug & Play. Install with Add Printer.

- Before installing this software, be sure to check the following.

1. Close any application software that's open.
2. If a document is being printed, either stop printing or wait for printing to end.
3. Close all printer driver dialog boxes.

- If a previous version of a Canon GARO Printer Driver for Windows NT 4.0 has been previously installed, delete it and then install the printer driver for Windows 2000.

- If the software application supports printing multiple copies, you can perform this setting in either the software application or the printer driver.

- When setting scaling with an application, make sure the printer driver scaling is set to 100%.

- When using scaling function, an error occurring from the difference between the degree of scaling and resolution may cause lines and other distortions to appear in the printout.

- When printing reduced scaling color image data, 1 dot wide lines and points may not be printed.

- For some computers, when a print job is cancelled, the next print job may not print correctly because a reset printer signal is not sent to the computer. Always reset the printer after canceling a print job.

- Some applications may not print lines with near horizontal angles correctly. If this occurs, re-draw lines horizontally.

- Directly after installing the printer driver (including new editions), some application software may not be able to recognize new functions. Select Print in the File menu of all application software with a printer function, select the name of the printer you're using, and click the Properties button. When the Properties dialog box opens, click the OK button to close.

- When binder printing with the Microsoft Binder, click off the check box for executing binder printing as one job. Each print job will be processed as a separate print job.

- If you change the printer name in the General sheet of the printer driver's Properties dialog box, the customized settings registered in the print driver become ineffective, so store your customized settings in a file before changing the printer name. After changing the printer name, load the stored file.

- High-resolution printing requires a large amount of computer memory. If there is very little computer memory available or you are using a large amount of application software, the application software may not operate normally. If this is the case, re-start Windows, and close application software that is not used when re-starting printing. If printing is not performed normally, change the Print Quality setting in the Main sheet of the printer driver's Printing Preferences dialog box to Standard or Draft.

- With a local connection, if Enable bidirectional support in the Port sheet of the printer driver's Properties dialog box has no check mark, printer information and driver information cannot be obtained as normal.

- When performing background printing with Microsoft Word 98, do not change the printer's resolution setting. If you do, Windows operation may become unstable.

- When printing with Adobe Acrobat Reader, the font may change.

- When using a printer connected with USB, do not use the Standby mode. You can set the Standby mode with Settings, Control Panel and Power Options in the Start menu.

- With Windows 2000, when printing files that include large image data, some parts may not be printed.
If this occurs, it may be possible to print if you make Enable advanced printing features in the Advanced sheet of the printer driver's Properties dialog box invalid.

- When Novell Client for Windows NT/2000 Ver. 4.71 is used in a NetWare environment, in the Port sheet of the Printer Driver's Properties dialog box, the Port selection and display may not be correct. However, the print job executes normally.

- When Novell Client for Windows NT/2000 Ver. 4.71 is used in a NetWare environment, the printer driver cannot be installed with the NetWare Printer Manager. At the same time, a printer driver downloaded by the Administrator cannot be installed. Install the printer driver from the Printers folder or use the GARO Installer.

- When using the installer in a NetWare environment, normal installation may not be possible. If this occurs, after deleting the old driver, install the printer driver from Add Printer.

- When there is a large volume of print data, the printer may take time out during printing, and printing may not be possible. If this occurs, open the Properties dialog box of the printer you are using from the Printers folder, and check Start printing after last page is spooled of Spool print documents so program finishes printing faster in the Advanced sheet.

- Thin line, gradation etc. printing may not be possible. If this occurs, open the printer driver's Properties dialog box from Print in the application software's File menu, and try printing following the steps below.

1. Remove the check from Open Preview When Print Job Starts in the Main sheet.
2. Select 1 Page/Sheet (standard) in Page Layout in the Page Setup sheet.
3. Click the Special Settings button in the Finishing sheet to open the Special Settings dialog box, and remove the check from Fast Graphic Process.

- With a system that already features an installed W7200/W7250 printer driver, if you install another Canon printer driver using an installer, printing with the W7200/W7250 may no longer be possible. In this case, reinstall the W7200/W7250 printer driver.

- With data for large images, printing may not be possible if you select Print Preview before printing or perform Poster Printing. If this occurs, printing may be possible if you enlarge virtual memory.

- You may not be able to print data for large size media from Adobe Illustrator. If this occurs, open the print driver's Property dialog box from Print in the application software's file menu, and try printing after performing the following.

1. Remove the check from Open Preview When Print Job Starts in the Main sheet.
2. Click the Special Settings button in the Finishing sheet to open the Special Settings dialog box, and remove the check from Fast Graphic Process.
3. Increase the amount of memory allotted to virtual memory.

- When performing operations such as Print Preview or Poster Printing, printing using Enhance Text With Photos may not be possible with some fonts.

- When installing this software from the installer, if you fail to follow the screen instruction to restart your computer, Microsoft Office may operate incorrectly. If this occurs, restart your computer.

- In an environment where USB or IEEE 1394 is installed and in use with Ver. 1.xx of the GARO printer driver, the previously installed USB or IEEE 1394 driver must be uninstalled before the printer driver can be updated to Ver. 2.00 or higher. A new version of the USB or IEEE 1394 driver is installed together with the new printer driver when you update the printer driver to Ver. 2.00 or later.

- Use firmware Ver. 2.10 (or later) in order to enable the following printer driver features:Expand Print Area in the Properties dialog box and Print Centered in the Printing Preferences dialog box.

- To switch the units display between inches (US) and mm (Metric) for the Media Size settings and other displays, in the menu for the Regional Options in the OS control panel, select "Input Locales".

- If you are using NDS (Novell Directory Services) in a NetWare environment, or using NDPS (Novell Distributed Print Services), then install the printer driver with the Add Printer icon in the Printers folder. The printer driver may not install correctly using the installer.

- The Enhance Text With Photos could be unavailable in some Windows software applications.

- If one printer is used with both USB and network connection, please install the GARO Status Monitor.
