Lexmark ColorFine Printer Driver
for Microsoft Windows NT
----------------------------------------------------------

Tips:

1) After installing your Lexmark Color Jetprinter software,
a program group for your printer appears under
   Start/Programs.

2) Many printing problems can be eliminated by setting
Virtual Memory Initial Size to at least 48 MB.

   Hint: Click Start/Settings/Control Panel; double-click
on System and go to the Performance tab; in the Virtual
Memory section, select the Change button; change the
   Initial Size of the Paging File Size for Selected Drive;
   then press the Set button.

3) To more quickly return to the application from printing
a job, uncheck "Always spool RAW datatype".

   Hint: Click Start/Settings/Printers; right-click
your Lexmark ColorFine printer icon, then click
Properties. Click the Print Processor button.

Note: For additional explanation on this subject, use
context-sensitive help by clicking on the ? button,
then clicking on "Always spool RAW datatype".

4) If you experience the problem of DOS jobs failing to print:
This problem can occur when more than one printer driver is
installed on a PC. To correct the problem, attach all other
printer drivers to FILE: as follows:
   1. Click Start/Settings/Printers.
   2. Right-click on the printer and select Properties.
   3. Go to the Ports tab and select FILE: from the list of ports.
   4. Click on OK.
   5. Repeat steps 2-4 for all printers except your Lexmark
      ColorFine printer.

5) If you are unable to select 1200 Dots Per Inch (DPI) from
within applications, you may select 1200 DPI mode
   from the driver.

To get 1200 DPI mode from the driver for all documents:

     Click Start/Settings/Printers; right-click on the
     your Lexmark printer icon; click Document Defaults;
go to the Advanced tab; select Print Quality of
     High Quality; then click OK.

To get 1200 DPI mode for a particular application:

Select <Print> from the application's file menu. Select
<Properties> or <Setup>. In the <Advanced> tab of the user
     interface, open <Print Quality> and select <High Quality>.

6) There are four different print quality modes in the driver
ranging from a "draft" mode to a 1200 DPI mode. The
differences between these modes are in the dots per inch
addressed, and the number of passes of the print head used
to apply ink to the print medium. The greater the number of
passes, the higher the print quality.

Quick Print: This is a 600 DPI high-speed "draft"
mode. All printing is done with one pass.
Normal: This is a 600 DPI mode. It is the
default for the driver. Printing is done
in either one or two passes, depending on
                    the print media used.
Enhanced: This is a 600 DPI mode. All printing is
                    done in four passes.
High Quality: This is the 1200 DPI mode. All printing
                    is done in four passes.

7) If your job fails to print, uncheck "Always spool RAW datatype".

   Hint: Click Start/Settings/Printers; right-click
your Lexmark printer icon, then click Properties.

8) Microsoft Word Users Only: If you want to print more than one
copy of your document, you must set the number of copies in the
printer software before you open Word.

To set the number of copies in the printer software:
   1. Click Start/Settings/Printers.
   2. Right-click on your Lexmark ColorFine printer icon.
   3. Choose Document Defaults from the sidebar menu.
   4. On the Page Setup tab in the printer software, set the
       number of copies.
   5. Open your Word document and print.

9) If you experience horizontal lines in your printed output
resulting from pauses during printing of large, complicated
pages; you can minimize this problem by selecting the
   following options:

   Click Start/Settings/Printers; right-click your Lexmark
ColorFine printer icon, then click Properties. Click the
Print Processor button. Click on "Always spool RAW datatype".
   Click OK.

On the Scheduling tab, select "Start printing after last page
   is spooled".

10) Printing with a single black ink cartridge is possible.
To do this, perform the installation steps for a color
cartridge without actually installing one in the printer.
Then change the Color Appearance setting in the user
interface to Black. All black text jobs will appear
normally. Any color jobs will have a grayscale
    representation of the colors.

11) System Administrators: All printer functions are available
for Windows NT User accounts which are members of either the
"Administrators" or the "Power Users" group.

Users holding accounts which are members of the "Users" group
will have limited function of the driver. These users will
not be able to change the default settings for the printer,
but they will be able to change settings from within an
application. They will not be able to install or align print
cartridges. They will not be able to change settings for DOS
printing. Ink levels displayed on the Cartridges tab of the
user interface and in the status window will be invalid.

We recommend that all accounts which use this driver be
members of at least the "Power Users" group.

12) This printer is not compatible with the following Parallel
    port I/O card:

    Manufacturer: FarPoint Communications
Product Name: F/PortPlus (BOM 440-0006 REV)

We do not recommend connecting the printer to this card.
