Overview
========
This printer driver allows you to print documents from any Windows 98,
Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows Server 2003
application to your printer.

System Requirements
===================
The Canon PS Printer Driver does not require any additional system
configuration beyond those required to run Windows 98/Me/NT4.0/2000/XP/
Server 2003.
However, at least one of the following output ports is required:

 - parallel printer port (LPT1, LPT2, etc.)
 - USB port
 - network interface

The network interface is recommended for the highest quality printing
throughput and automatic configuration processing.

Installing the Printer Driver
=============================
To use this printer driver with software applications that operate
with Microsoft Windows 98/Me/NT4.0/2000/XP/Server 2003, use the following
installation procedure.

Note
----
* When using the installer for Winodows NT4.0, Service Pack 6 or later must be
  installed in your system.
* It is recommended to use the installer for upgrading or adding printer
drivers. If you install a new printer driver using the Add Printer Wizard,
you must upgrade all existing printer drivers by clicking the New Driver
button in the Printer Properties dialog box.
* If you use a SMB (NetBIOS network) printer as a shared printer on the server
PC, use the Add Printer Wizard, and select "Network printer" when installing
  the printer driver.
* Under the Windows NT4.0 Terminal Server environment, you cannot install the
printer driver correctly if you execute the installer on the Remote Login
screen of the client PC. In this case, install the driver on the Terminal
Server. If you want to do so on the Remote Login screen, contact your Canon
authorized dealer or Canon authorized service provider.
* If you use the installer under Windows 98/Me, the installation may be
suspended depending on the system environment you use. In this case, restart
your computer, and then retry the installation.
* If you log on Windows NT4.0/2000/XP/Server 2003 as a Power User and run the
installer, the installation may not be completed correctly. In this case,
log in as an Administrator, and then retry the installation.
* If you do not restart the computer when a message appears prompting you to do
so, Microsoft Office may not operate correctly after that. If this happens,
  restart your computer.
* If the following Canon drivers have been installed for Windows 2000/XP/Server
2003, it is necessary to restart the computer after the installation.
  - PS v1.00 printer driver
  - PCL5e v4.70 or older printer driver
  - PCL6 v2.40 or older printer driver
  - Fax v1.40 or older driver
* If you are using Canon PS printer driver V1.00 under Windows NT4.0/2000/XP/
Server 2003, first update the driver to V1.2x or V1.3x, then install the
  V2.21 printer driver.
* Under the environment where MetaFrame FR3 is installed and
AutoCreatedPrinter exists, the printer driver installation using the
Installer will be interrupted. When you exit the Installer, an error message
is displayed. After closing the error message, you cannot open the Printers
folder and log off the Client PC until you restart the computer.
In this case, delete AutoCreatedPrinter, restart the computer, and then
restart the Installer to install the printer driver. AutoCreatedPrinter will
be recreated automatically after restarting the computer.

button, and then follow the instructions on the screen.
5. Select Manually Set Port to Install, and then click the Next button.
6. If the dialog box to select if a USB connection is used for installation is
displayed, click the Next button without selecting anything.
7. If the dialog box to select items to install is displayed, select PS3
Printer Driver and click the Next button.
8. If the dialog box to select how to execute the setup is displayed, select
Add Printers, or Add Printers and Update Drivers, and then click the Next
   button.
9. Select the port setting method from Port Settings, click the Settings
button, and then select the port from the dialog box displayed next.
   Then click the Next button.
10.In the next dialog box, check the installation settings, and then click the
   Start button.
11.After the files are copied, click the Exit button to finish the
   installation program.

You are now ready to print from any Windows software application.

Note:
* You can add a new driver without affecting existing driver if you select Add
Printers for step 8. If you select Add Printers and Update Drivers, all
existing drivers are updated automatically when you add a new driver.
* If you are using a shared printer in the Print Server (Point and Print)
environment, it is necessary to install Canon Driver Information Assist
Service in the server PC in order to set up the printer configuration
automatically or to use the Job Accounting feature.

display the information about the PS printer driver. You can also
click the ? button in the upper right corner of dialog boxes and then click a
specific item in a dialog box for help with that item.

Cautions, Limitations and Restrictions
======================================
1. For Windows NT4.0, when using the Watermark function and printing from
CorelDRAW, Illustrator or Acrobat, more time is required to release the
application and complete the print job.

2. For Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003, the following occurs when outputting a
print job to a file using PageComposer.
   - When specifying to output to a file in the Print dialog box of an
application, it is printed to the printer. The output file is created, but
     its size is "0"bytes.
   - When FILE is set for the output port in the Properties dialog box, it is
necessary to specify the output file 2 times. The first specified file is
"0" bytes in size, and the correct data is output to the second specified
     file.

3. When printing Euro symbols, use TrueType fonts, or select Symbol when using
   printer fonts.

4. When using the collate function of the application and Saddle Stitch is
specified for Booklet Printing, all paper will be sorted and saddle
   stitched.
When using Saddle Stitch function for Booklet Printing, disable the collate
   function of the application.

5. To speed up printing when the printer is connected via a network, Binary is
recommended as the Data Protocol in the PS Options dialog box which is
displayed from the Configuration sheet (Windows 98/Me) or Device
   Settings sheet (Windows NT4.0/2000/XP/Server 2003).

6. When Overlay Printing, use the overlay form whose size, orientation and Page
Layout is the same as those of the document you are going to print.

7. When creating a custom paper size in the Print Server Properties dialog box
of Windows NT 4.0/2000/XP/Server 2003, specify the margins as follows:
   - imageRUNNER 105/8500: 0.45cm/0.18in or more
   - imageRUNNER C3200: 0.25cm/0.10in or more
   - Other printers: 0.40cm/0.16in or more

8. When creating a overlay form file in one machine operating Windows
NT4.0/2000/XP/Server 2003, you cannot specify another machine operating
Windows NT4.0/2000/XP/Server 2003 in the network as the place to save the
   new form file.

9. Specify a NetWare Server name or NDS tree name up to 15 characters.

10.For Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003 when installing with Add Printer from the
Printer Folder, the Cannot find Digital Signature message may appear.
If this message appears, continue with the installation. The printer will
   install correctly.

11.When you store a landscape document in the Mail Box of the printer, the
staple position displayed on the printer control panel differs from the
setting of the printer driver. Also, if you specify the staple position of
a landscape document stored in the Mail Box from the printer control panel,
the actual staple position of the output document may not correspond with
   the orientation specified.

12.If you select Print to file setting in the Print dialog box when printing a
document from Microsoft Word 2002, specify On for PS Output from Application
in the Configuration sheet (Windows 98/Me) or Device Settings sheet
(Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003) prior to printing.

13.When you select Paper Type for Select by in the Paper Source sheet, select
Same Paper for All Pages for Paper Selection if you want to use Tab Paper to
print a document. If you specify several different paper types to print each
pages of a document, the print out on the Tab Paper may not be correct.

14.When printing from Microsoft Word 2002 or Lotus 1-2-3 under Windows NT4.0,
Watermark settings in the Properties dialog box that is displayed by right-
clicking the Properties button in the Print dialog box may not work
correctly. In this case, specify the Watermark settings in advance in the
Printer Properties dialog box that can be accessed from the Printers folder
   in the Control Panel.

15.When you select Auto or On for PS Output from Application in the
Configuration sheet (Windows 98/Me) or Device Settings sheet (Windows
2000/XP/Server 2003), the print out from Illustrator may not be correct.
In this case, open the Font Settings dialog box from the Configuration sheet
(Windows 98/Me) or Device Settings sheet (Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003),
and then download the printer font you want to use, or open the Detailed
Settings dialog box from the Quality sheet, and then select Always Send
   TrueType Fonts for Substitution.

16. When printing from QuarkXPress, the document may not be printed and blank
pages are output. In this case, select On for PS Output from Application
in the Configuration sheet (Windows 98/Me) or Device Settings sheet
    (Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003).

17. Some applications send the PostScript command to the printer directly when
using the PostScript printer driver. For these applications, the following
    functions may not be available.
    - From the Page Setup sheet: Page Layout, Watermark, Manual Scaling
    - From the Paper Source sheet: Paper Selection
    - From the Quality sheet : Print as Negative Image, Print as Mirror Image

    * For Windows 98/Me/2000/XP/Server 2003, you can use the above
functions when the PS Output from Application setting in the
Configuration or Device Settings sheet is set to Off.

18. The printed output may not be correct when printing from applications
that use the ROP command, which is not supported by PostScript language.
For example, the printed results of grayscale printing for Micrografx
Designer or Word Art for Microsoft Word are incorrect.
For Windows 98/Me/2000/XP/Server 2003, selecting On for PS Output from
Application in the Configuration or Device Settings sheet may solve the
    problem.

19. When printing a document to which EPS objects are attached, the printed
    output may not be correct.
For Windows 98/Me/2000/XP/Server 2003, selecting On for PS Output
from Application in the Configuration or Device Settings sheet may solve
    the problem.

20. For Window XP/Server 2003, it is necessary to use TCP/IP as a network
protocol in order to set up the printer configuration automatically when
using a Remote Desktop environment, or when Windows is shared by multiple
    users.

21. When inserting inserted sheets into the document, if you accidentally
specify a drawer that contains tab paper as the paper source for the
inserted sheets, the paper source automatically returns to the plain paper
    setting.

22. If you select Rotate Print Data 180 Degrees in the Advanced Settings dialog
box when any Finishing option is selected, the document may output in an
    unexpected style.

23. For imageRUNNER8500, 7200 and 105 under Windows 98/Me/2000/XP/Server
2003, when using booklet printing with saddle stitch, the printed cover
page loaded from Document Insertion Unit may be attached upside down. If
this occurs, put the cover page in the Document Insertion Unit in the
    opposite direction.

24. For Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003, when printing a document with a banner
page attached from the server PC under the NetWare environment, two copies
of the banner page may be output.

25. According to the version of the PS printer driver, the available options
for Halftones in the Quality sheet differ as below.
E V2.1x: [Standard] is supported, [Pattern 7] is not supported
E V2.20 and later: [Standard] is not supported, [Pattern 7] is supported
For Windows 98/Me under environments where the PS printer driver v2.1x for
imageRUNNER C3200 is installed, [Standard] will be not available and
[Pattern 7] will be available for the imageRUNNER C3200 driver after you
install the PS printer driver of v2.20 or later for imageRUNNER C3100,
    C3220, or C6800.
