I. PRODUCT OVERVIEW - HP IP CONSOLE VIEWER 2.5
============================================
The HP IP Console Viewer is a cross-platform management application that allows
the user to view, control, and group console switches and the servers that are
attached to them.
From the HP IP Console Viewer, you can easily perform tasks, such as managing a
console switch, launching a video session to a server, or installing new console
switches. Built-in groupings, such as Servers, Sites, and Folders, provide an easy
way to view select console switches and servers. You can also create custom
groupings of console switches and servers by adding folders that store shortcuts.
Additional groupings are provided based on the custom fields that you assign.
The HP IP Console Switch Viewer Software version 2.5 updates the IP Console Switch
Viewer Software version 2.0 with upgrades and enhancements which support the
KVM/IP Console Switch hardware devices. HP IP Console Switch Viewer Software
version 2.5 includes the latest technology to enhance KVM/IP Console environment
allowing monitoring of servers in remote/local racks and allowing support for
Active Directory for HP IP Console Switches licensed for that option. The latest
Softpaqs can be obtained from:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq
or the following url:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/proliantstorage/rack-options/
kvm/soft-firmware.html.
Additionally you will need to upgrade the HP IP Console Switch firmware to version
3.0.0 or greater to install Directory Services Integration support. The Directory
Services Integration for HP IP Console Switch allows KVM user and Administrator
management to be migrated from the local database within the switch to the
centralized database of a Microsoft Active Directory without requiring a Directory
Schema Extension.
To purchase a license key to enable Directory Services Integration follow the
following instructions:
1. Go to www.hp.com
2. Click on Online Shopping
3. Click on Small & Medium Business Store
4. Enter 370585-B21 in the Search field

============
The following section outlines the procedures for installing and launching
the IP Console Viewer in Windows and Linux operating systems.
Windows Operating Systems
To install on a Windows 2000, or Windows XP platform:
Adjust the mouse acceleration, through the local port, on servers attached
to analog switch ports.
NOTE: HP recommends that all Windows systems attached to the console switch
use the default Windows PS/2 mouse driver.
To adjust the mouse acceleration for Windows 2000:
From the desktop, select Start, Settings, Control Panel, and double-click
the Mouse icon.
Select the Motion tab.
Set the acceleration speed to None and the Speed setting to 50% (default).
For Windows 2003, set the speed to 50% (default) and deselct the Enhance
Pointer Precision checkbox
If installing from a CD, insert the IP Console Viewer into the CD-ROM drive.
If AutoPlay is supported and enabled, the setup program starts
automatically. If the system does not support AutoPlay, set the default
drive to the CD-ROM drive letter and execute the following command to
start the install program:
[CD-ROM drive]:\WIN32\SETUP.EXE
Follow the on-screen instructions.
If installaing from a softpaq:
[directory where softpaq was extracted]\WIN32\SETUP.EXE
Follow the on-screen instructions.
Linux Operating Systems
To install on a Linux platform:
Adjust the mouse acceleration, through the local port, on servers attached
to analog switch ports.
To synchronize the mouse pointers for GNOME:
Click the main menu.
From the main menu task list, select Programs>Settings>Peripherals.
From the Peripherals task list, select Mouse. The Mouse Configuration
window appears.
In this window, you can set the mouse to be either right-handed or
left-handed and adjust the mouse motion by changing the threshold and
adjusting the acceleration to the fourth position from the far left

enabled, the setup program starts automatically. If the system does not
support AutoPlay, mount the CD-ROM volume by executing the following
command:
mount -t iso9660 -ro mode=0555 <device> <mount point>
Replace <device> with the name of the CD-ROM on the machine, and replace
<mount point> with the name of the desired mount point.
For example, to mount a CD-ROM, which is the second IDE device on/mnt,
execute the command:
mount -t iso9660 -ro mode=0555 /dev/hdb/mnt

VIII. RELEASE NOTES
======================================================
IP Console Viewer:
Issue:
No option is given to delete the database when uninstalling the IP Console
Viewer application.
Solution:
Manually delete the database and the install directory to complete the
uninstallation.
Issue:
Changing an IP address from static to bootp requires a discovery to find the
switch.
Solution:
After changing the IP address from static to bootp and rebooting the switch,
click Tools>Discover and follow the wizard to discover the switch.
IP Console Switch:
Issue:
DNS fail-over to the third DNS server may cause authentication errors in
group attribute mode. When using LDAP group attribute mode for directory
based authentication and both the primary and secondary DNS servers fail,
TCP timeouts attempting to reach the primary and secondary DNS servers may
cause errors trying to resolve LDAP requests.
Solution:
If the DNS failure cannot be resolved in a timely manner, change the DNS
server order in the network configuration to put the working DNS server(s)
as primary until the DNS servers failure is resolved.
Issue:
The Configuration File Loaded Trap variable cpqKvmTrapObjectFilename always
reports the file config00.txt.
Solution:
This issue may be addressed in a future release of the switch firmware.
KVM Server Console Switch:
Issue:
A timeout may occur when using the wupdate.exe program to upgrade firmware
on a KVM Server Console Switch using the serial port upgrade procedure on
some laptop systems.
Solution:
Use a different computer to perform the upgrade if this condition occurs.
Documentation:
Issue:
The first note on page 7-5 in the HP IP Console Switch Software should
instruct the user to use a single string for LDAP queries.
Solution:
The user account used in the Search DN field for LDAP queries should be a
single string with no spaces.
Issue:
Figure A-8 on page A-11 in Appendix A of the HP IP Console Switch Software
Guide shows Group Attribute radio button selected for Query Mode (Console
Switch). The screen shot is incorrect.
Solution:
The Basic radio buttons should be selected for both Query Mode (Console
Switch) and Query Mode (Server) to test the basic communications between
the switch and the directory server at this point in the tutorial.
Issue:
Step 11 on page A-13 in Appendix A of the HP IP Console Switch Software
Guide does not instruct the reader to create a computer object for the
console switch or computer objects for computers that are not part of the
domain.
Solution:
Create a computer object for the IP Console Switch and a computer object for
each server that has an interface adapter that is not part of the domain.
The object name must exactly match the IP Console Switch and non-domain
servers respectively.
Issue:
The Console Switch User Database and Console Switch Configuration should be
backed up before upgrading the IP Console Switch firmware, Page 12-3.
Solution:
Save the Console Switch User Database and Console Switch Configuration
before upgrading the IP Console Switch firmware. From the IP Console
Viewer, click the Tools tab. At the Tools tab, select Save Console Switch
Configuration and Save Console Switch User Database to save the respective
information. Restore the Console Switch User Database if needed.
