                             Instructions for upgrade program


Following are some notes about upgrade porgram, please read it carefully:


1. Before using upgrade programs, please check if the TCP/IP setting of your computer is valid:
your computer should be in the same subnet as the LAN port of the router. Try to ping the router and check if there is any network problem.


2. The package of upgrade program for mendocino includes following files:
        upgrade.ini
        tftpupdt.ini
        tftpupd1.ini
        tftplock.key
        tftpupdt.dir
        upgrade.img
	derived_data.dat
	tiau5fw.bin
	tiau5tp.bin
	actmain.ldr
	ap25.hex
	ver.dat
Please don't edit these files.


3. Usage:       
a. Start upgrade.exe, there will be a message box reminding you of necessary preparations you have to make. If they are all done, click 'OK' button to continue;
b. Input the LAN port ip address of the board and click 'Start' button, the upgrade process will begin. In most cases, you may need not change the default ip address(192.168.0.1).
The program will tell you how long this process will take, and some operations that you should not do. After you read this notice and click 'OK', upgrade will start.
c. There will be some messages indicating the progress of upgrade process. After the process is completed, the upgrade program will exit automatically.
d. You cannot run this program from a read-only directory.


4. Attention:
Since upgrade is a critical task for the firmware, inappropriate operations may damage the firmware, even corrupt the flash.
a. Please don't run any applications that may communicate with firmware during upgrade. If you are running them, please stop them before upgrade. Those applications may include:
        accessing internet via the board(http, ftp, etc.);
        configuration via the embedded web server;
b. You should not interrupt the upgrade process before completion, for examples, disconnect the connection with the router, power off the board, kill the application, etc., otherwise your flash may get corrupted.
c. In very few occasions(for example, if you are clicking your web pages for configuration pretty fastly, or open many browser windows to access the embedded web server), the memory on board may be not enough for update firmware, you may get an message: "update attempt failed, insufficient RAM", in this case you need to reboot your board and upgrade again. 
If you just do this it is better to reboot the router before upgrade.      


5. Upgrade methods:
a. The time that upgrade will take depends on the version of firmware on the board, for older firmware, it may take about 6 minutes; for later versions(for mendocino, the version limit is 1.0.1.49.34), it may need only about 2.5 minutes. 
b. The fast way has an additional feature: it will reboot the board after upgrade completion, please check the power LED to see the status of reboot; For the old way you need to reboot the board mannually.


6. Product type mismatch:
If you get an error message reminding you of product type mismatch, you are not using the right firmware for your board. Please check and download the right firmware.
