Migration Files

During an upgrade or migration from Microsoft(R) Windows NT(R) 4.0
to Windows(R) 2000, the system will be scanned for hardware that is
incompatible with Windows 2000. Any NC67xx or NC77xx server
adapters in the system are flagged as incompatible and the wizard
displays a list of the network components that do not have built-in
upgrade support.

I. INSTALLATION STEPS

NOTE: Perform these steps prior to running setup.

1. Create a directory off the root of your NT4 partition.

2. Edit the NETUPG.INF file to reflect the path created in step 1.

3. Copy all the files from the migration directory, and the Windows 2000
   Q57 driver, to that folder.

NOTE: Q57W2K.SYS, INF and CAT files are extracted from the appropriate
         component package.

4. Edit the “System Variable” (under environment variables). Set the
   variable name to NETUPGRD_INIT_FILE_DIR.

NOTE: Be sure you edit the "System Variable," not the "User Variable."

5. Set the value, “Variable Value,” to the path defined in step 1.
   Example C:\q57

NOTE: Be sure you have previously installed the Windows NT 4.0 core driver,
         Q57NT4.SYS, and rebooted.

6. Run "setup.exe" from the Windows 2000 media CD.

7. Choose the option to upgrade your system to Windows 2000.

8. A message displays indicating the OEM dll (Q57NTUP.DLL) has requested
you cancel. This is normal and expected.

9. Click “YES” to Cancel.

10. Restart the Windows 2000 setup from the Windows 2000 media CD.

11. Choose the option to upgrade your system to Windows 2000.

12. Follow the remainder of the prompts.

If you still receive dialog box prompts for the NETMAP.INF file, check
your environmental variables for correctness.

II. FILE DEFINITIONS

- NETMAP.INF

The installer will use the NETMAP.INF to identify the network components
that do not have built-in upgrade support. Its roles are:

    - To map the pre-upgrade device ID of a network component to the
Microsoft Windows 2000 or later device ID for the component.
    - To specify the network migration DLL that NetSetup loads.
    - To optionally specify an alternative Help message file.

- NETWORK-MIGRATION.DLL

NETWORK-MIGRATION.DLL is the name of the network migration DLL that NetSetup
must load to upgrade the network component.

- Netupg.inf
NETUPG.INF is the pointer file to indicate where the migration files are
stored. It is editable as necessary.
