A. Late-breaking news regarding your Windows scanner driver
============================================================
I. Known scanner driver problems
*High Quality Scan Mode
 The EPSON Perfection 660 does not support the High Quality Scan Mode. 
 Even if you select High Quality as the Scan Mode setting on the Macro Tab
 in the Settings@window, the quality and speed of your scan will be the
 same as if set to High Speed.

*Uninstallation Problems
<<For Windows Me, 98 users>>
 You need to remove your EPSON Perfection 660 from
 the Scanners and Cameras dialog box first and then uninstall
 EPSON Scan Tool. Follow the steps below.
 1) Make sure your scanner is plugged in and connected
    to your computer.
 2) Click the Start button, point to Settings, then select
    Control Panel.
 3) Double-click the Scanners and Cameras icon and remove
    EPSON Perfection 660 from the list of installed devices.
 4) Unplug the scanner and disconnect it from the computer.
 5) Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon in Control Panel.
    Select EPSON Scan Tool from the list, then click Change/Remove.
 6) The confirming Dialog box appears. Click Yes to continue.
 7) When a message appears informing you that EPSON Scan Tool
    will be removed, click Next.
 8) Click Finish to complete the uninstallation.
    In some cases, a message may appear to prompt you to restart
    the computer;
    Make sure "Yes, I want to restart my computer now is selected" 
    and then click Finish.

B. Troubleshooting
==================
 If the Add New Hardware Wizard or the Found New Hardware Wizard
 dialog box appears when you connected the scanner before installing
 the software, click Cancel and follow the steps described 
 on the scanner installation in the Out Of Box Experience sheet. 
 Do not click Next .

 Recovering from Scanner Software Installation Problems

 If you canceled the scanner software installation before
 the procedure was completed, or you connected the scanner
 before installing the software, EPSON Scan Tool may be
 incorrectly installed.
 Follow these steps to install the software correctly.

<<For Windows Me, 98 users>>

 1) Make sure your scanner is plugged in and connected to your PC.
 2) Click the Start button, point to Settings, then select
    Control Panel.
 3) Double- click the System icon in Control Panel.
 4) Click the Device Manager tab.
 5) Click the plus (+) sign next to Other devices or Imaging Device.
    If your scanner appears under Other devices with a question (?)
    mark or under Imaging Device with an exclamation (!) mark,
    right-click ?EPSON Perfection 660 or !EPSON Perfection 660,and then
    select Remove.
 6) The Confirm Device Removal dialog box appears. Click OK.
 7) Shut down your computer and unplug your scanner. Then disconnect
    your scanner from your computer.
 8) Follow the steps described on the scanner installation in the Out Of
    Box Experience sheet. 

<<For Windows 2000, XP users>>

 1) Make sure your scanner is plugged in and connected to your PC.
 2) Right-click the My Computer icon, then select Properties.
 3) Select the Hardware tab and click the Device Manager button.
 4) Click the plus (+) sign next to Other devices or Imaging Device.
    If your scanner appears under Other devices with a question (?)
    mark or under Imaging Device with an exclamation (!) mark,
    right-click ?EPSON Perfection 660 or !EPSON Perfection 660,and then
    select Uninstall.
 6) The Confirm Device Removal dialog box appears. Click OK.
 7) Shut down your computer and unplug your scanner. Then disconnect
    your scanner from your computer.
 8) Follow the steps described on the scanner installation in the Out Of
    Box Experience sheet.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
