from a HP TopTOOLS mangement console.
GW.07.12
FIXES
- Fix bug specific to GW.07.11 BIOS and D3961-60001 system board
that prevented from booting on HDD. (BIOS GW.07.11 has been
removed from www for that reason)
- 'Power-On Password' setup field is to be set at 'None' by
default
- When use Phlash with '/C' option, then the coprocessor is now
seen by DMI applications such as HP TopTools
NEW FEATURES
- Add support of 24x IDE CD-ROM
- Add support for multiple ELSA video card (dual monitor
applications)
- BIOS returns detailled information to HP Diagnostic Utility
WARNING
- Starting with BIOS GW.07.10, Vectra XM Series 4 support remote
BIOS flashing. However, older version of BIOSes (GW.07.09)
don't support remote reboot after being remotely flashed.
After a remote BIOS update from an old BIOS, the PC will detect
a CMOS checksum change and will prompt on the screen of the PC
to note the change. The PC remains in this state untill f2 is
pressed, which can only be done at the PC and not remotely.

WHY DOES HEWLETT-PACKARD ROLL THE BIOS ?
==========================================
Minimizing the number of the revisions of the BIOS is an
objective of Hewlett-Packard. However Hewlett-Packard may have
to release new revisions for any one of the following reasons :
ENHANCEMENTS
------------
This is the case when a major new feature is available on the
market. Good examples are Microsoft Windows 95, a new level of
the Plug and Play standard, a new level of the PCI standard.
PROCUREMENT ASSURANCE
---------------------
Hewlett-Packard qualifies an additional supplier for a
component in order to secure the procurement.
COMPONENT ROLL
--------------
A semiconductor supplier introduces a new version of a
component, and stops the production of the previous version for
technological improvement reasons.
QUALITY
-------
To improve the quality, Hewlett-Packard has to make use of a
more reliable component, or to implement a design change.
COST
----
Hewlett-Packard uses a different supplier which can supply the
equivalent component at a much lower price.
BUG FIX
-------
Bugs discovered in the previous version are fixed.
