A - BIOS FLASHING INSTRUCTIONS (LOCAL)
The following instructions explain how to flash the
system BIOS of your PC. These instructions apply to the
HP DOS flasher called PHLASH.
Use these instructions if your PC runs with :
- DOS 6.22
- Windows 3.1 or Windows For Workgroup
- Windows 95
If your PC runs under Windows NT, refer to section 'B'.
Your system BIOS of your PC can also be updated from a
remote management console. See the 'C' section of the
flashing instruction.

A1. CREATING THE BIOS INSTALLATION DISKETTE
a. Create a system diskette
b. Copy the contents of this directory onto this diskette:
copy *.* A:
(Assuming that your diskette drive is A:)
A2. FLASHING THE BIOS
a. Insert the BIOS installation diskette into the A: (B:)
drive
b. Boot the PC from the diskette to ensure a clean boot.
c. Launch the flashing command by typing from A: (B:) the
following command:
Flash
A3. SWITCHES (FOR ADVANCED USERS ONLY)
The following switches have to be used behind the
phlash.exe program.
Ex: phlash.exe /B=PLATFORM.BIN /CS /V
/B Binary file to be loaded as platform.bin
/CS Check BIOS image file checksum before flashing
/V Compare BIOS image file and flash EEPROM after
flashing
/C BIOS will automatically load CMOS default at
following boot
/P Production mode: no screen outputs, no beeps,
auto reboot
/S Silent: no beeps
/EXIT Exit to DOS instead of rebooting
A4. ERRORS MESSAGES
If you get the flash error messages describe below,
follow the instructions as given:
CANNOT FLASH USING USER PASSWORD, USE ADMIN PWD
it is because you have enabled password on boot and
booted as a user. User boot doesn't allow flashing BIOS.
==> Reboot with your ADMIN password.
OPEN FAILED ON BIOS ROM IMAGE FILE
you probably tried to flash protect switch SW1-1 ON
==> Switch it to OFF to enable BIOS flash.
A5. MAKING THE DISKETTE'S LABEL
Texts to be written on diskette's label are given in the
attached "disk.txt" file in the following fields:
* Title
* Subtitle
* Version
* Copyright 1
* Copyright 2
Example :
* Title=HP VL4 5/xx (S3 Trio 765 64V+)

a. Format a 1.44MB diskette. It is NOT needed to make a
system diskette.
b. Copy the contents of this directory onto this diskette:
copy *.* A:
(Assuming that your diskette drive is A:)
B2. FLASHING THE BIOS
a. Boot the PC under NT with administrator rights.
b. Insert the BIOS installation diskette into the A: (B:)
drive
c. Launch the flashing command by typing from A: (B:) the
following command:
Flash-nt
B3. SWITCHES (FOR ADVANCED USERS ONLY)
The following switches have to be used behind the
phlash32.exe program.
Ex: phlash32.exe -c ha0706us.ful
-v Compare the current BIOS image file and the specified
file.
-c Clear the system CMOS after flashing so it will automatically
load CMOS default at following boot
-q Quiet: no screen outputs, no beeps,
auto reboot
-? Display the help screen

C - DMI BIOS FLASHING INSTRUCTION (REMOTE)
WARNING : FOR MIS AND EXPERT USERS ONLY.
The following instructions explain how to configure your
PC system BIOS to be able to be remotely flashed from a
management console. These instructions apply to the HP
flasher called PHLASH used in conjunction with
a specific BIOS .ini file.

C1. REMOTE FLASH GLOBAL CONFIGURATION
In order to remotely flash one or several networked PCs,
the following configuration is needed :
- 1 management console running either :
* HP Network Node Manager for Windows NT with
HP TopTOOLS add-in.
* HP Openview For Windows for Windows with HP
TopTOOLS add-in.
* HP TopTOOLS for Windows 95 with remote agents.
- 1 file server under Windows, with BIOS files.
- All the networked client PCs on which BIOS is to be
flashed, with Windows 95 or NT, HP TopTOOLS 2 and TCP/IP
running on them. These PCs are referred as client PCs
in this instruction note.
C2. CREATING THE REMOTE BIOS INSTALLATION FOLDER
a. Copy the contents of this directory onto a dedicated
shared directory on the PC used a file server.
b. A directory must be created for each model of PC
and each version of BIOS and, if relevant, to each
operating system (Windows 95 or NT)

B3. CONFIGURATION OF THE FILE SERVER
a. On the PC used as a file server, first enable drive
and directory sharing for the directory that contains
the BIOS files.
The file server can run :
- Windows For Workgroup 3.11
- Windows NT 3.51
- Windows NT 4.0
- Windows 95
b. File sharing under Windows For Workgroup and NT 3.51
In the file manager, select the desired directory and
choose 'File' then 'Share As'.
c. File sharing under Windows NT 4.0
In 'My Computer', go to the selected directory and
choose 'File' then 'Sharing ...'
d. File sharing under Windows 95
In control panel / network, click on 'file and printer
sharing'.
Choose 'I give access to my files'
Give then access to the desired directory by selecting
the corresponding folder and clicking on 'share as ...'
C4. CONFIGURATION OF THE CLIENT PC
The client PC needs to have HP TopTOOLS and TCP/IP in order
to be able to accept a remote flash request.
The minimum version of HP TopTOOLS for Windows 95 is :

C5. CONFIGURATION OF THE CONSOLE PC.
a. Console PC with Network Node Manager
HP TopTOOLS with remote flash capability can be added
to current versions of HP Network Node Manager.
The minimum version of the HP TopTOOLS add-in is :
A.02.00-NN
It can be retrieved from the HP Electronic Support
Center on the HP www at the following URL :

Then select HP Desktop Management page.
b. Console PC with OpenView For Windows
HP TopTOOLS with remote flash capability can be added
to current versions of HP OpenView For Windows, also
available through HP Professional Suite.
The minimum version of the HP TopTOOLS add-in is :
A.02.05-OV
It is to be used with HP OpenView for Windows at
revisions D.00.00 and D.00.02, only.
It can be retrieved from the HP Electronic Support

Then select HP Desktop Management page.
c. Console PC with HP TopTOOLS in peer to peer mode
HP TopTOOLS with remote flash capability can work in
peer to peer mode in very small networks configurations.
Specific files and installation notes are available
in the TopTOOLS Peer to Peer package at revision :
D.02.04-RM for Windows95.

Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
