              PHILIPS Music System Software Information Update
                               2.01 Release
                                 04/21/95

1.  SOFTWARE PACKAGE CONTENTS

    The PHILIPS Music System software package contains two 3.5"
    1.44MB diskettes for installing/uninstalling DOS/Windows
    drivers, utilities and applications.

2.  INSTALLATION/UNINSTALLATION PROCEDURE

    The installation program SETUP.EXE copies the necessary
    files from the installation diskettes unto your hard disk
    or removes the installed files when you wish to do so.

    Perform the following steps to install or uninstall the
    software:

   (Assuming you are using floppy drive A, and you wish to
    install the software to C:\MUSICSYS.)

    1. Place the diskette labeled "PCA70SB Setup Disk 1" in
        Drive A.
    2. Type "a:" and press ENTER to change to Drive A.
    3. Type "setup" and press ENTER.
    4. Click OK on the "Welcome to PHILIPS Music System Setup"
        screen.
    5. Choose "Install PHILIPS Music System software" or
        "Uninstall PHILIPS Music System software" to start the
        corresponding process.

    The installation process does the following for you:

    a.) Creates the directory \MUSICSYS on your hard disk drive.
    b.) Sets up the initial audio card and CD-ROM configurations,
         so that after you have finished the installation and
         rebooted your machine, you will be ready to use the
         PHILIPS Music System.
    c.) Copies the files on your floppy disk to the \MUSICSYS
         directory and Windows directory respectively.
    d.) Updates your CONFIG.SYS, AUTOEXEC.BAT and SYSTEM.INI
         files.
    e.) Creates a PHILIPS Music System program group in Windows,
         if you have selected "Windows Drivers and Applications"
         for installation.

 In CONFIG.SYS, the following command lines will be added:

          (Assuming the IDE interface of the PCA70SB Audio Card is
          enabled, and the selected CD-ROM drive model is PCA20CR.)

   DEVICE=C:\MUSICSYS\CDIFINIT.SYS /T:I
   DEVICE=C:\MUSICSYS\CDROM\VIDE_CDD.SYS /D:MSCD001

          Note: If the IDE interface of the audio card is disabled,
                 "/T:X will appear at the end of the first command
                 line instead of "/T:I."

 In AUTOEXEC.BAT, the following command lines will be added:

   PATH=%PATH%;C:\MUSICSYS
   SET SOUND16=C:\MUSICSYS
   C:\MUSICSYS\SNDINIT /B
   SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 T4
   C:\MUSICSYS\CDROM\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MSCD001 /M:12 /V

          Note: The last command line here is added only if you
                 selected "CD-ROM Driver" for installation on the
                 software selection screen, "PHILIPS Music System
                 Software Components."

 In SYSTEM.INI, the following command lines will be added:

   [drivers]
   WAVE=CS31BA11.DRV
   AUX=CS31BA11.DRV
   MIXER=CS31BA11.DRV
   MIDI=OPL3.DRV
   MIDI1=MPU401P.DRV

   [386Enh]
   DEVICE=VSNDSYS.386

   In addition, "MSMIXMGR.DLL" will be appended to the
          "DRIVERS=..." command line in the [boot] section, and
          a new section called [SNDSYS.DRV] will be created in
          the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

    The uninstallation process, on the contrary, will remove
    the above configurations from these files.

3. PHILIPS MUSIC SYSTEM APPLICATIONS

    The complete PHILIPS Music System contains DOS audio CD
    player and mixer programs as well as four Windows-based
    applications: Audio Input, Audio Mixer, Audio Transport
    and Music Center. Please refer to the user's manual for
    details of their features and usage methods.

4. HARDWARE RECONFIGURATION

    To reconfigure the hardware settings, you can use one of the
    two methods below:

    1) Run the setup program under C:\MUSICSYS and select
        "Reconfigure hardware settings" on the Setup Main Menu
        to start the reconfiguration process.
    2) Double click the "Hardware Settings" icon in the "PHILIPS
        Music System" program group to start the reconfiguration
        process. You can use this method only if you have
        selected the "Windows Drivers and Applications" option
        in your installation process.

5. OTHER THINGS TO NOTE

    1) This version of the PCA70SB audio card supports only the
        IDE CD-ROM interface and associated drivers. The built-
        in CD-ROM driver is PHILIPS PCA20CR. If you are using
        another IDE CD-ROM drive, e.g., PHILIPS PCA41CR, you need
        to install the driver separately.

    2) After the installation process is completed, the following
        command line is automatically added to your CONFIG.SYS
        file:

        DEVICE=[drive:]\[directory]\CDIFINIT.SYS /T:[I/X]

        where,
        CDIFINIT.SYS = the CD-ROM interface initialization device
                          driver which allows your CD-ROM and audio
                          card to communicate with each other.
        [drive] = drive where you have the driver installed
        [directory] = directory where the driver is located
        [I/X] =         "I" means the PCA70SB audio card's IDE
                          interface is enabled (used).
                   "X" means the PCA70SB audio card's IDE
                          interface is disabled (not used).

        The audio card's IDE interface being enabled or
        disabled depends on whether you selected the PCA70SB
        IDE connector or the system IDE connector on the
        "Configure CD-ROM Drive" screen during your installation
        process. For example, the following line indicates that
        you have chosen to use the IDE interface provided by the PCA70SB
        audio card:

        DEVICE=C:\MUSICSYS\CDIFINIT.SYS /T:I

        To change the IDE interface the CD-ROM drive uses, you
        need to change the CONFIG.SYS by substituting the "I" or
        "X" with its opposite ("X" or "I") in additional to the
        physical connector change.

        NOTE: This command line must be added BEFORE the CD-ROM
               device driver line.

    3) After the installation, the setup program automatically
        adds "C:\MUSICSYS\SNDINIT /B" into your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
        This allows the automatic reinitialization of your audio
        card and CD-ROM drive settings each time you start your PC
        system.

        WARNING: Do not attempt to run the program SNDINIT.EXE
                   outside of the autoexec.bat at any time. If
                   you change any hardware setting by running this
                   program without specifying the "/b" option,
                   operation problems may happen to your audio
                   card and CD-ROM drive.
