This file describes how to set up your printer driver and contains the most up-to-date information that was available at the time of software release. Please see the application notes section for details of known limitations. For information on printer driver settings and features, please check the Help file.

(II) Installation

The procedure to install and remove the driver is shown below. If a previous version of the driver has already been installed on your computer, then you must remove the previous version before installing this driver.

i) Installing the printer driver in Windows 3.1/95/98
------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Close all applications.

2. Run SETUP.EXE in this release.

3. Follow the instructions on the screen.

ii) Uninstalling the printer driver from Windows 3.1/95/98
------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Close all applications.

2. Run UNSETUP.EXE in this release.

3. Follow the instructions on the screen.

(III) Application notes and tips
===============================

Windows 95/98
----------------------------------------

 1. When graphics images or text printed as graphics images are not printed as they appear on your computer screen, change the "Graphics Mode" on the "Print Quality" tab.

 2. With some applications, some characters may not print correctly. To solve this problem, change the "TrueType Mode" and/or the "Use Printer Fonts" on the "Print Quality" tab.

 3. When printing multiple copies, turn off collation in the application and turn "Collate" on, on the "Setup" tab. With some applications, collation may significantly slow down your computer. And, some functions may not work correctly.

 4. With some applications (e.g. Corel Draw), complicated images may take a long time to print when the "Graphic Mode" is "Vector". For faster printing, choose "Raster" instead.

 5. When printing complicated documents to a printer connected with a parallel interface, the printer time-out may cause the document to print incorrectly. If this happens, set the Spool Setting to "Start printing after last page is spooled" and/or extend the IO timeout at the printer operation panel(max. 300 seconds).

 6. Selecting the Spool Type as EMF may cause some applications not to print well in "Vector" mode. If this happens, return the Spool Type setting to RAW.

 7. Documents that contain fonts not installed on your computer will not print correctly. Make sure your document only contains fonts installed on your computer.

 8. To avoid problems in general, make sure that there is plenty of free disk space.

 9. Even when "Print all text as black" is selected, characters rendered using "Gradation Management" will not be printed all in black.

10. When you change the printer properties from WordPad, changes will not be reflected in the print job immediately following the change.

11. When "Copies" is selected on the driver's "Setup" tab, the value may not be reflected in the application print dialog box. Be sure to set the number of copies only in the driver, not in the application.

12. PowerPoint may print some graphics objects with the same color although they are in different colors on the computer screen. To solve this problem, change the object's color.

13. To print multiple copies from MS-Project, set the number of copies setting in the application print dialog box to 1, and then specify the number of copies using "Copies" setting on the driver's "Setup" tab.

14. When using with MS-Project, the stripe pattern interval may not print as it appears on your computer screen. If this happens, change the "Graphics Mode".

15. PageMaker shifts the image by about an inch with 8x13, 8.25x13, 8.5x13, A6, and JIS B4 paper sizes. To solve this problem, print using a different paper size.

16. If the "Graphics Mode" is set to "Raster", the watermark may not print correctly. Change the "Graphics Mode" to "Vector".

17. The display driver for the Matrox Millennium and Millennium II in the Windows 98 CD-ROM is incompatible with this printer driver. Please obtain and install the latest Windows 98 display driver for the video cards from Matrox Graphics Inc.

18. "Print text as black" setting in the "Print Quality" tab does not work when printing a WordPerfect document.

19. The overlay data are listed with the same name if they are registered with the same name and stored in different drives/directories.

20. With some applications (e.g. WordPad), overlay data may not be printed. To solve this problem, switch "TrueType Mode" to "Print as graphics".

21. Overlay file can not be created to the directory whose name contains some special characters(e.g. space). To avoid this problem, create an overlay file to another directory whose name does not have any special characters.

22. When the "Status" window does not indicate the printer status correctly, close and reopen the "Status" window again.

Windows 3.1x

If this happens, set the "Use Print Manager" to off and/or extend the IO timeout at the printer operation panel(max. 300 seconds).

 6. Documents that contain fonts not installed on your computer will not print correctly. Make sure your document only contains fonts installed on your computer.

 7. To avoid problems in general, make sure that there is plenty of free disk space.

 8. Even when "Print all text as black" is selected, characters rendered using "Gradation Management" will not be printed all in black.

 9. When you change the printer properties from Write, changes will not be reflected in the print job immediately following the change.

10. When "Copies" is selected on the driver's "Setup" tab, the value may not be reflected in the application print dialog box. Be sure to set the number of copies only in the driver, not in the application.

11. PowerPoint may print some graphics objects with the same color although they are in different colors on the computer screen. To solve this problem, change the object's color.

12. To print multiple copies from MS-Project, set the number of copies setting in the application print dialog box to 1, and then specify the number of copies using "Copies" setting on the driver's "Setup" tab.

14. PageMaker shifts the image by about an inch with 8x13, 8.25x13, 8.5x13, A6, and JIS B4 paper sizes. To solve this problem, print using a different paper size.

15. When using non-standard fonts with WordPerfect 6.1, decorative characters do not print correctly. If you wish to use decorative characters, only use standard Windows fonts.

16. When using the Letter Gothic (TrueType) font with WordPerfect 6.1, the characters are not printed correctly.

17. When printing with WordPerfect 7.0, printed font sizes may be incorrect.

18. If the "Graphics Mode" is set to "Raster", the watermark may not print correctly. Change the "Graphics Mode" to "Vector".

19. Windows may pop up a warning dialog "Cannot write to device AUX" when you print to a printer connected to the parallel port. You may safely ignore this problem by clicking "Cancel" to close the dialog.

20. The overlay data are listed with the same name if they are registered with the same name and stored in different drives/directories.

21. With some applications (e.g. Write), overlay data may not be printed. To solve this problem, switch "TrueType Mode" to "Print as graphics".

22. MS Word 6.0 may print the overlays only on the first page. In order to avoid this problem use PCL 5e driver.
