GSM Upgrade Instructions

IMPORTANT

These instructions supercede the GSM UPGRADE INSTRUCTIONS in the manual.

Before going ahead, please ensure that the GSM upgrade pack you have purchased matches your GSM phone and that you have installed your PC Card using the instructions supplied in your modem package.

Important: Check to ensure that any cables are removed from the Modem and that you have an external mains power supply connected to your computer.

Now insert the upgrade disk into the floppy drive on your computer and then follow the appropriate instructions below:

Windows'95 Users

1. Click on the Start button, then click on Run.
2. Type a:\setup then click on OK.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions to begin the upgrade.

Windows 3.x Users

1. From the main Program Manager, click on File, then click on Run.
2. Type a:\upgrade then click on OK.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions to begin the upgrade.

Note: If your modem does not appear to be responding correctly after the upgrade we suggest that the modem is removed and then re-inserted.

Troubleshooting the Gold Card Modem Upgrade Utility:

For the most part the Gold Card modem upgrade utility runs without any user intervention. However, there are instances where the upgrade fails and the user is required to intervene:

 Program reports 'No Modem Found'

1. Is the card plugged in? Run setup again.
2. Has the card been enabled? In Windows 95 the card is usually configured automatically through Plug n Play software. In Win 3.x use the point enabler rena.exe or modem.exe supplied on the Utilities disk with the modem or use your computers own Card and Socket Services. Run setup again.
3. Users of Windows 95b version. Turn off PC Card Modems powersaving feature. Go into Control Panel...Power...PC Card Modems and remove the tick. Restart your computer. Run setup again.

Program reports 'No upgrade file found'

1. Is the firmware file in the same directory as the setup program?
2. Edit the SETUP.INI text file and change lines

[Upgrade]
Handset=145 (yours may be slightly different)

to

[Upgrade]
Handset=*.*
Interface=GUI

Save the file and run the setup program again. A user interface will appear.

In 'Available Import Files' select the correct binary file and click Program. Be careful to choose the correct firmware for your card.

If there aren't any files to choose, click on COMx in the box below and then check the Import Files again.
