[SECTION 1: Driver Overview]

This readme file contains information for the Quatech Serial Device Server Driver Set.
For full information on using a Quatech Serial Device Server, please see the User's
Manual included with the product or download the PDF version of the manual from our
website:

[SECTION 2: Devices Supported]

This driver set supports all Quatech ThinQ Serial Device Servers.  It does
not support non-ThinQ devices with model numbers ending in "-410."

[SECTION 3: Installation]

Use the installation wizard included on the CD which came with your hardware.
The wizard will guide you step by step through installation and configuration for
a variety of possible network scenarios.  Online help is available within the
wizard.  You may also refer to the printed Quick Start guide and to the full
product manual, which is included in PDF format.

Internet Explorer 5 or later is required in order to install the software.
If your installed version of IE is older, please update it before attempting
to install the SDS drivers.

[SECTION 4: Updating Device Drivers on Windows XP]

Updating the device drivers involves uninstalling the existing device drivers
and running the installation wizard again.  Follow the steps listed below.

1.  Open the Windows Device Manager.
      - Click the "Start" button.
      - Choose "Control Panel", then "System".
      - Click on the "Hardware" tab.
      - Click the "Device Manager" button.

2.  Click on the '+' next to the "Multi-port serial adapters" line.

3.  Find the ThinQ SDS device listed under "Multi-port serial adapters".
    Select it with a single click of the left mouse button.
      - If you have more than one ThinQ SDS installed, select any one of them.

4.  Uninstall the ThinQ SDS device by doing one of the following:
      - Press the "DELETE" key on your keyboard
      ** OR **
      - Click "Action" on the menu bar and choose "Uninstall"  OR
      ** OR **
      - Click the right mouse button on the selected ThinQ SDS and
        choose "Uninstall"

5.  Click "OK" at the "Confirm Device Removal" prompt.

6.  Wait for Windows to uninstall the ThinQ SDS device.
      - The ThinQ SDS device you selected in Step 3 should disappear from
        the Device Manager listing.  If you had only one ThinQ SDS device
        installed, the "Multi-port serial adapters" section may disappear.

7.  Close Device Manager.

8.  Close the "System Properties" window.

9.  If you downloaded the updated drivers from the Quatech website,
    run QTEWIZARD.EXE to reinstall your ThinQ SDS.  If you have an
    updated ThinQ SDS driver CD, insert it into your CDROM drive to
    automatically start the wizard.

10. Follow the same steps in the wizard that you followed when you
    first installed the ThinQ SDS device.

[SECTION 5: Updating Device Drivers on Windows 2000]

Updating the device drivers involves uninstalling the existing device drivers
and running the installation wizard again.  Follow the steps listed below.

1.  Open the Windows Device Manager.
      - Click the "Start" button.
      - Choose "Settings", then "Control Panel".
      - Double-click "System".
      - Click on the "Hardware" tab.
      - Click the "Device Manager" button.

2.  Click on the '+' next to the "Multi-port serial adapters" line.

3.  Find the ThinQ SDS device listed under "Multi-port serial adapters".
    Select it with a single click of the left mouse button.
      - If you have more than one ThinQ SDS installed, select any one of them.

4.  Uninstall the ThinQ SDS device by doing one of the following:
      - Press the "DELETE" key on your keyboard
      ** OR **
      - Click "Action" on the menu bar and choose "Uninstall"  OR

[SECTION 6: Updating Device Drivers on Windows NT4]

1.  Open the Quatech Windows NT4 Device Manager using the shortcut that was
    placed on your desktop during installation.

2.  Click on the '+' next to the "SDS" line.

3.  Find the ThinQ SDS device listed under "SDS".
    Select it with a single click of the left mouse button.
      - If you have more than one ThinQ SDS installed, select any one of them.

4.  Uninstall the ThinQ SDS device by clicking the "Remove" button.

5.  Close the Quatech Windows NT4 Device Manager.

6.  If you downloaded the updated drivers from the Quatech website,
    run QTEWIZARD.EXE to reinstall your ThinQ SDS.  If you have an
    updated ThinQ SDS driver CD, insert it into your CDROM drive to
    automatically start the wizard.

7.  Follow the same steps in the wizard that you followed when you
    first installed the ThinQ SDS device.

[SECTION 7: Files Included with this Driver Set]

The set consists of all driver files required for Windows NT4, 2000 or XP.
Following is a list of the files required for each OS and their destination
directories, where d: is the drive on which Windows is installed.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
