readme.txt Driver File Contents (USR5416_Windows_XP.zip)

The files that will be extracted during this setup will provide all necessary information for your model USR5416 (802.11g Wireless Turbo PCI Adapter) to function properly in Windows XP Home or Professional in the event that you don't wish to navigate the installation cd or don't wish to use the client manager because one is already built into Windows XP.

BASIC INSTALLATION

1.	Insert the card into your computer.

2.	Turn your computer on, but don't do anything to the wizard that pops up yet.

3.	Extract the files in this archive, and run "Step 1.exe"

4.	Run "Step 2.exe"

5.	Go back to the wizard that popped up, and click "next," and when it's done, click "Finish."

6.	You can now use the Windows XP wireless configuration settings and not have to worry about the USR client manager.

DETAILED INSTALLATION

1.	With your computer turned off, insert the 802.11g Wireless Turbo PCI Adapter into an open PCI slot. Be sure that you do not damage the antenna while doing this. If you need, you can unscrew the antenna while you insert the card, but be sure to screw it back in once the card is securely inserted into a PCI slot.

2.	Turn on your computer as you normally would. When you get to the desktop, you will be alerted via information balloon in the lower right corner that new hardware has been found. When a wizard pops up to guide you through installation of your hardware, leave the window there and go onto step 3.

3.	Extract the contents of this archive to a location of your choice, but make sure you rememeber where it is!

4.	Open the folder where you extracted the contents, and double-click "Step 1.exe." Depending on the speed of your computer, you may or may not notice a window flash on your screen as the program is executed.

5.	To ensure that step 4 completed successfully, double-click "Step 1.exe" again. This time, you should see a box with a title bar saying "Confirm File Replace." Click "no," and some of the values in this box should change, most noticeably the size. Click "no" again. If you do not see this box appear, please double-click "Step 1.exe" once again, and you should see the box appear.

6.	Double-Click on "Step 2.exe." Depending on the speed of your computer, you may or may not notice a window flash on your screen as the program is executed.

7.	To ensure that step 6 completed successfully, double-click "Step 2.exe" again. This time, you should see a box with a title bar saying "Confirm File Replace." Click "no," and some of the values in this box should change, most noticeably the size. Click "no" again. If you do not see this box appear, please double-click "Step 2.exe" once again, and you should see the box appear.

8.	Go back to the wizard that popped up in step 2 of this guide, do not make any changes, and press "next." The wizard should automatically install the Wireless Card. Upon completion, a balloon should pop up in the lower right alerting you that a network was found if you are within range of your wireless network and you should be able to configure and use your card normally, without the USR Client Manager software getting in the way of the built-in Windows software.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

"Step 1.exe" extracts "tiacx111.bin" and "usr11g.sys" to their proper location, "C:\Windows\System32\Drivers"

"Step 2.exe" extracts "usr11g.inf" to its proper location, "C:\Windows\inf"

You cannot simply provide both files and the INF file and try to install the card using these because the INF file draws on extra parts of the CD that are not necessary and would have made installing the drivers without the client manager very difficult and a complex task.

The two files from "Step 1.exe" are the driver files required to run the wireless card.

THe file from "Step 2.exe" is the INF file which would install everything for you, but it isn't set up to do this except in the situation that occurs when you install from the cd, which ultimitely installs the client manager along with it, which is more hassle than it's worth to get rid of without screwing up the card.

"Step 1.exe" and "Step 2.exe" were made with WinRAR, a small program for working with many types of compressed files and creating self-extracting archives. A licensed copy is available for a very reasonable fee.
