AccView/Station Overview
------------------------
AccView/Station is a tool for PC and LAN adapter
management. It is an Windows-based application
that runs in Microsoft Windows 3.1 and later
versions.
It can show configuration of local PC hardware
and network adapters. AccView/Station manages
network adapters through network device drivers.
Currently Packet Driver and Open Data Link (ODI)
interface drivers are supported.
Using AccView/Station you can view the adapter's
configuration and statistic tables, and create
the necessary reports. AccView/Station incorporates
report text editors to facilitate report generation.
AccView/Station consists of a single executable
file called AVST.EXE.
1. Copy the AVST.EXE file into your hard disk.
2. Use the "New" command in the Windows
program manager to add it into one of the
program manager windows.
3. Before you can use the program, make sure
that your adapter is properly installed.
Parts of the AccView/Station Screen
-----------------------------------
1. The Control Panel
The Control Panel is the control center
of AccView/Station. A list box displays all
network drivers detected by the program.
Packet drivers are named with their interrupt
vector and their driver name. For example:
"Packet Driver at 60H: Accton EN165x Packet Driver"
ODI drivers are named by their driver name
and frame type. If you load more than one
frame type for a ODI driver, they will
appear several times in the list of
drivers, differing only in the protocol
frame type.
Below the list box are three buttons
named "PC Configuration," "Configuration,"
and "Statistics." They are used to invoke
almost all other windows.
Click the PC Configuration button to
invoke the screen showing the adapter's
configuration.
Other buttons, namely, "Configuration" and
"Statistics" require you to select an appropriate
driver first. If no drivers are available,
the two buttons have no effect. Depending on
which driver is selected in the above list box,
the "Configuration" and "Statistics" buttons
invoke the LAN driver configuration and
statistics window respectively.
The Control Panel window can not be closed
while AccView/Station is running. It can be
minimized if necessary.
2. PC Configuration
The PC Configuration Window shows
the CPU type, memory size, I/O ports,
DOS version and Windows version that you
are using.
It also shows disk drives currently online,
including removable disks, floppy disk drives,
fixed disks and network disks. The total size
and remaining spaces of these devices are also shown.
The Update button can be used to refresh
the disk drive display.
3. Packet Driver Configuration
It shows various information from the
Packet Driver interface, including Names,
Class, Type of the driver, node address,
functionality, current receive mode, and
the multicast address list.
4. Packet Driver Statistics
It shows standard packet driver statistics
table. Including transmitted and received
frames, bytes and errors.
5. ODI Configuration
It shows the MLID configuration table.
Entries are renamed and organized from
Novell documentation for better understanding.
6. ODI Statistics
It shows the MLID statistics table from
the interface. Multiple logical boards sharing
the same physical interface will also have
the same statistical display.
7. Report Generation
AccView/Station includes a simple report generator,
which allows users to open multiple reports
simultaneously. Users can open, save, view,
print, edit and manipulate a report just like
a file from text editor.
On the AccView/Station screen, there is a menu bar
containing menus, such as File, Edit, View, Window
and Help. Invoking any menu brings up a pull-down
menu containing different commands for report
manipulation. The commands are straight forward,
functioning in a similar way as any Windows-based
text editor.
AccView/Station's report generator uses a standard
Windows text control that cannot accept files longer
than 32K.
