README.TXT Driver File Contents (Racal_NI6510_Software.zip)

The Racal Interlan SNMP agent is a set of two files that will support
most of the MIB II functionality for Racal Interlan network adapters
using the Open Datalink Interface (ODI) specification. Additionally,
the agent contains several variables for providing board specific
information. The memory required is approximately 12K. If desired
both files can be loaded high in extended memory on those systems
that have the appropriate setup. The agent will run on and has been
tested in conjunction with the following Racal Interlan cards using
the associated ODI driver:

NI5210, NI6510, NI9210, ILANAT, EtherBlaster

The agent has been tested with the following versions of Novell
drivers & shells:

Link Support Layer (LSL) 1.21 & 2.01
IPX/SPX Protocol (IPXODI) 1.20 & 2.11
Netware Shell (NETX) 3.22 & 3.26

The following information must be added to the Net.cfg file to
provide the desired responses. Replace the MIB II variable names
with appropriate site specific information. The Protocol section
to use is dependent on the Transport to use. For SNMP/UDP use
the RXUDPODI section and for SNMP/IPX use the RCXPORT section.

Link Driver NI6510
   Frame ethernet_802.3 - usually present
Frame ethernet_II - add for RXUDPODI

Protocol RXUDPODI
Bind #2 - bind to the ethernet_II frame
NetAddr 130.204.5.51 - must be present
Name sysName - default that is returned is "Unknown"
Location sysLocation - default that is returned is "Unknown"
Contact sysContact - default that is returned is "Unknown"
Community community name - default that is used is public
Description sysDescr - default that is returned is "Unknown"

Protocol RCXPORT
Bind #1 - bind to the ethernet_802.3 frame
Name sysName - default that is returned is "Unknown"
Location sysLocation - default that is returned is "Unknown"
Contact sysContact - default that is returned is "Unknown"
Community community name - default that is used is public
Description sysDescr - default that is returned is "Unknown"

To load the agent:

Load the link support layer (lsl).
Load the Racal InterLan ODI driver depending on the board in use.
Load IPX/SPX protocol (ipxodi). This step is optional with SNMP/UDP.
Load the Racal InterLan SNMP/UDP or SNMP/IPX transport (rxudpodi, rxipxodi).
Load the Racal InterLan SNMP agent (rcagent).
Load the Netware shell (netx). This step is optional.

Both the transports and agent files may be unloaded by appending a slash u
(/u) after the filename. Remember to remove any other TSR's first
that were loaded after the agent. Otherwise, the error message
"***Error: Int 2F vector hooked" will be displayed.

An RFC1213 compatible MIB file is supplied with the agent, the
current version of the file is parseable by RollCall 3.x. There may need
to be additional changes made to the MIB file depending on the
particular network management parser being used.

Issues with the current version of the agent:
=============================================

There are some "holes" in the supported tables and list of supported
MIB groups. The following list comprises the details:

- System
complete except items as noted below
- Interfaces
complete except items as noted below
- Address Translation
	not currently available
- IP
	ipAddrTable { ip 20 } - not currently available
	ipRouteTable { ip 21 } - not currently available
	ipNetToMediaTable { ip 22 } - not currently available
	ipRoutingDiscards { ip 23 } - not currently available
- ICMP
	complete
- TCP
the agent does not support TCP
- UDP
	not currently available
- EGP
the agent does not support EGP
- Transmission
the dot3 stats table is the only supported table in the group
- SNMP
	complete

Some of the variables that are read-write are supported as read-only
in this version of the agent. For example, in order to set the
contact name (sysContact) it is necessary to edit the net.cfg file on
the system that contains the board. Then restart both the
rxudpodi.com and rcagent.com files to read the new information. It
is not yet possible to write to the following variables from a
network management station:

sysContact - can be changed in net.cfg
sysName - can be changed in net.cfg
sysLocation - can be changed in net.cfg
	ifAdminStatus
	ipForwarding
	ipDefaultTTL

The community table allows a maximum of 1 entry. In addition, any
station has read-write access to the agent. The cold start trap is
sent to all stations that will receive traps.
