The VIA 3-Mode Floppy Driver is used to support another diskette format
for 3 1/2" diskette drive. The PC environment of Japan different from
other countries. Except normal diskette formats that used by PC
environment,there are a 1.2M diskette formats that used in Japan. You
could refer to the related section to install the driver individually.

1) System Requirements
* This package should be installed on the VIA South Bridge chipset,
VT82C686 ,VT8231 or later, and others' chipset will not be supported.
* BIOS Support Floppy 3 Mode (Turn On)
* 3 Mode Floppy drive support 360 rpm
* The "VIA 3-Mode Floppy Disk Driver" supports the following Operation

Use Device Manager to install 3-mode driver.
1. Select Setting, Control Panel from Start button on the task bar (otherwise,
this can be achieved by using the left click of My Computer and selecting
Properties).
2. Click System from Control Panel.
3. Select Device Manager tab from System Properties dialog box.
4. Double click Floppy disk controllers if Floppy disk controllers branch is
not expanded.
5. The default setting is Standard Floppy Disk Controller. Double click
Standard Floppy Disk Controller. The dialog box appears to display the
properties of driver for the current floppy disk controller. This property
sheet has tabs, General, Resources and a new tab Driver
6. Select the Driver tab.
You will not see Driver tab if you are running Windows95/98 US version or
Japanese NEC98 version.
7. Click Change Driver button. This will display the compatible devices.
Clicking Show (A)ll devices option box will display all 3 mode drivers
available for Windows95/98.
8. Click Have Disk and you have an VIA supplied installation disk. Select
"VIA3M01.INF"
9. To install a 3-Mode driver,Select "VIA 3-mode Floppy Controller" and Click
Next Button.
Don't care warning message Box and Click OK Button.

If you already installed 3-mode driver and wish to disable it, select default
controller (Standard Floppy Disk Controller) from Select Device dialog box.
4) Windows NT Driver

1.Boot Window NT.
2.Change directory to Window NT system directory\system32\drivers.
3.Rename FLOPPY.SYS to FLOPPY.ORG. Ren FLOPPY.SYS FLOPPY.ORG.
4.Copy VIA device driver:FLOPPY.SYS to Window NT system directory\system32\drivers
5.Reboot Window NT.

5) Windows NT 5.0 Driver

User must install both "Floppy disk drive" and "Floppy disk controller" drivers
in device manager, "Floppy disk drive" driver should be installed first.
Install "Floppy disk drive" driver
1. Start device manager.
2. Select "Floppy disk drive" and then right click on "Floppy disk drive".
3. Select the Driver tab in the property sheet and then click on "Update
Driver..." to next dialog box.
4. Click on "Next>" and select "Specify a location" in next dialog.
5. After clicking "Next", device manager will be asking for the location of
driver files. Please specify the driver and INF files that were made in
"Floppy disk drive" folder and click ok.
6. In the next page, please make sure that "Install one of the drivers" is
checked as below then click on "Next".
7. Select VIA 3-mode floppy disk drive in this dialog.
8. Reboot the PC.
Install "Floppy disk controller" driver
1. Start device manager.
2. Select "Floppy disk controller"and then right click on "Floppy disk controller"
3. Select the Driver tab in the property sheet and then click on "Update
Driver..." to next dialog box.
4. Click on "Next>" and select "Specify a location" in next dialog.

6. In the next page, please make sure that "Install one of the drivers" is

checked as below then click on "Next".
6. Select Standard 3-mode floppy disk controller in this dialog
7. Reboot the PC
6) Package Version Identify
You could check this distribuation version and release date by using
the DATE\TIME displayed by using dir/p command, e.g :
VIA3M01 VXD 5950 11-26-98 2:12 VIA3M01.VXD
The time column is 2:12 which means the package distribution version
is 2.12 and is released on the Nov. 26 '98.
7) Notes
*
1) The 3-Mode Floppy driver can't access 1.2M diskette format when
working with normal 3 1/2" drive. The normal 3 1/2" diskette drive
only support 300 rpm , but 3-Mode diskette drive support both 300
and 360 rpm. According to desired diskette format, the 3-Mode Floppy
driver change spindle speed from 300 rpm to 360 rpm.
Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
