Please follow the steps below: 1. Insert the Upgrade Disk provided into either Drive A or B. 2. Click on the Start button from the Windows95 taskbar and choose the Run option. 3. Type A:\Upgrade.exe and click OK. 4. Click the Next to remove the V.90 drivers. 5. Click the Restart button to restart your system. 6. Upon the next reboot, Windows95 will re-detect the modem. FEATURES ======== MDP3858 Series Modems (V-U/V-E/V-A/SP-U/SP-E/SP-A) is featured to support Voice and SpeakerPhone under TAPI mode ONLY. It does not support under Non-TAPI mode. For more information on TAPI, please visit Microsoft Website. 1. The SpeakerPhone feature of this product also works with sound card and TAD connector. A proper TAD cable connecting the modem and the sound card through the TAD connectors. 2. The Voice feature of this product is supported through the Answering Machine. (Playback of greeting message will be heard by the remote end) 3. Playing of recorded messages requires a sound card. 4. This product is compatible to any Windows 95 platform. It is not meant for Windows 3.x and DOS platform. 5. Silent Detection is currently not supported in this release. 6. The AT Command Instructions Set for the Modem hardware is available in Microsoft Word format (filename:ATCOMSET.DOC). This file will be copied into your \WINDOWS subdirectory. 7. This product supports output set to buzzer and speaker. Selection can be made through SET AUDIO utility (setaudio.exe / audioset.exe) found copied into the Windows/ root directory. Informations provided by the utility can be found in the SETAUDIO.TXT file in Windows/ root. (Applicable to MDP3858 SP Modems ONLY) 8. Windows Dos Terminal Emulation is supported. Due to the PCI way of assigning IRQ to the Modem, please do not use old DOS applications in WIN95 Dos Emulation Box. Try to use Up-To-Date DOS applications such as PROCOMM PLUS - Version 2.0 etc. To setup DOS Box support, please check the DOS Support Box under Modem Properties for this feature. 9. MDP3858 Modems is bundled with application softwares to support user. To ensure smooth installation, it is required to insert the "Multimedia Communication Suite" CD which is followed by a Pop-Up Menu to ease all possible installation. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- B. WIN98 INSTALLATION ================== Installation of modem drivers in Win98 is similar to Win95. Note that Unimodem Drivers are not required for Win98. 1. Windows 98 will automatically detect "PCI Serial Controller". Click "Next" to continue. 2. Insert the "Multimedia Communication Suite" CD / Installation Diskette provided into the Cdrom Drive and Floppy Drive. 3. Select "Search for the best drivers for your device. (Recommended)" and click "Next" to continue. 4. Enable "CD-Rom drive" selection and click "Next" to continue. 5. Modem Driver will be found on the "Multimedia Communication Suite" CD / Installation. Click "Next" to continue. 6. Click "Finish" to complete modem installation. 7. System will then automatically load all the necessary drivers and files needed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- C. WIN95 OSR2 INSTALLATION ======================= 1. Windows 95 will automatically detect "PCI Serial Controller". Click "Next" to continue in the "Upgrade Driver Wizard" dialog box. 2. Insert the "Multimedia Communication Suite" CD / Installation Diskette provided into the Cdrom Drive and Floppy Drive. 3. Click "Next" and the system will search for an updated driver. 4. Click "Finish" to use the updated driver. 5. Click "Ok" when prompted to insert the installation disk. 6. Change path to D:\ / "A:\"/"B:\" and click OK. 7. System will then automatically load all the necessary drivers and files needed. 8. You will be prompted to restart. Click "Yes" to complete modem installation. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- D. WIN95 & WIN95 SR1 INSTALLATION ============================== 1. Windows 95 will automatically detect the PCI Modem and displays the "New Hardware Found" dialog box. 2. Insert the "Multimedia Communication Suite" CD / Installation Diskette provided into the Cdrom Drive and Floppy Drive. 3. Select the "Driver from disk provided by Hardware manufacturer option" and click OK. 4. Type the Drive, eg. "D:\" or "A:\"/"B:\" (where your Cdrom Drive and Floppy Drive is assigned) in the combo box and click OK. For Win95 SR1, type the Drive, eg. "D:\Win95SR1" or "A:\"/"B:\" (where your Cdrom Drive and Floppy Drive is assigned) in the combo box and click OK. To determine system using Win95 SR1, proceed to Control Panel / System Properties. You will see "Microsoft Windows 95 4.00.950a". After loading the PCI modem device, if you encounter resource conflicts (especially when there are non-Plug & Play adaptors installed in your system), please follow the steps below to alter the resource configuration : 1. Go to Control Panel - System - Device Manager and click on "Modem". 2. Choose the modem device and click on "Properties". You can change the settings to resolve the conflict device. WIN NT4.0 INSTALLATION ====================== For installation of modem drivers in Win NT4.0, please refer to the accompanied EASY START READ ME FIRST manual. Note that Unimodem Drivers are not required in NT environment. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- F. TRIO COMMUNICATION SUITE INSTALLATION. ====================================== 1. MDP3858 Series Modems comes with Trio Communication Suite 5.1 in the Multimedia CD. 2. Insert the "Multimedia Communication Suite" CD and select Trio Communication Suite Installation. 3. Follow the instructions through the installation. 4. At "TCS 5.1 System Test", select "Run Complete Modem Test" to complete installation under TAPI mode. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- G. HOW TO USE THE SPEAKERPHONE FEATURE ? =================================== 1. Make sure you have a sound card properly installed in the system. 2. Locate the TAD connector of your sound card and the modem. 3. Connect these TAD connectors using a TAD cable. 4. Connect your Microphone to the MIC-In jack of your sound card. 5. Connect your Speakers to the Line-Out/Speaker-Out of your sound card. 7. Run Trio Communications application, and speakerphone feature should be ready. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- H. HOW TO RECORD YOUR OWN GREETING ? =============================== The Trio Communications application comes with default greeting messages. To customize or record own personal greeting message, follow the steps below : 1. Go to Trio Communications' "MediaPlayer" and create a new voice file. 2. Select "TrioVoice (DFV), Low Compression". 3. Proceed to record your new voice file. 4. Save this file under \DataFax\Data\Voice\Wave of your harddisk. 5. Exit and go to Trio Communications' Main menu. 6. Go to "Answering Machine Example" icon and select "Answering Machine". 7. Use the pull-down menu and select the file you recorded/saved. With the above steps, your Trio Communications application is personalize to your own greeting message. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I. WHAT IS A TAD ? ============= TAD stands for Telephone Answering Device. Most modems and sound cards nowadays comes with a built-in TAD connector. Reasons are as follows : 1. It establish a link between the sound card and the modem internally. 2. It allows user to leave the Microphone connection on the sound card, while the same Microphone can be use during speakerphone conversation. 3. It allows user to leave the Speaker connection on the sound card, while the same Speakers can be use for any modem audio output. UNIMODEM DRIVERS INSTALLATION ============================= Unimodem drivers are to be installed to ensure that voice feature is supported by the modem. Unimodem is only to be installed in Win95, Win95 SR1 and Win95 SR2 environment. HOW TO USE THE SET AUDIO UTILITY ? ================================== Product comes with Buzzer and Voice output feature. Both feature can be selected through the SETAUDIO.EXE utility found in the Windows/ root directory. (Applicable to MDP3858 SP Modems ONLY) Note : For Europe, MDP3858SP-E, run setaudio.exe. For US/Others, MDP3858SP-U, run audioset.exe. HOW TO SET OUTPUT TO BUZZER ? ============================= 1. From Windows 95 Start button, go for Run and Browse to Windows directory. 2. Run "setaudio.exe" or "audioset.exe" file in the directory. 3. From drop-down menu, select " Buzzer (Internal) " and OK. HOW TO SET OUTPUT TO SPEAKER ? ============================== 1. From Windows 95 Start button, go for Run and Browse to Windows directory. 2. Run "setaudio.exe" or "audioset.exe" file in the directory. 3. From drop-down menu, select " Line-Out (External/Sound Card) " and OK. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- L. HOW TO UNINSTALL MODEM ? ======================== Product is installed with Uninstall Program allowing user to remove modem completely from the system. To perform an un-installation, proceed to Control Panel / Add/Remove Program icon. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- M. TROUBLESHOOTING =============== V90 connection result may be poor due to Internet Provider capability with the new V90 standard, utilities are provided to resolve this. When logging to Internet Provider that are still supporting only K56, run the procedures as below: 1. Open "MS Explorer". 2. Proceed to Windows Root Directory. 3. Locate a file "set56K.inf". 4. Right click mouse on the file and select "Install". 5. Reboot system after this. Upon your Internet Provider having upgraded to support V90, run the procedures as below: 1. Open "MS Explorer". 2. Proceed to Windows Root Directory. 3. Locate a file "setV90.inf". 4. Right click mouse on the file and select "Install". 5. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
