This file contains important information for using the CD-ROM Discman. Please take a moment to read this. This file contains the following information. 1. Using the installed utility software 2. Windows 95 notes 3. Windows 3.1/DOS notes Please refer to the INSTALL.TXT file for more information about installation and troubleshooting. 1. Using the installed utility software 1.1 Windows 3.1 utilities When installed under Windows 3.1, the following software has been installed on your PC. CD Player and Mini CD Player Photo CD Viewer SCSI Interrogator 1.1.1 CD Player and Mini CD Player The CD Player and Mini CD Player are two versions of the same Windows audio CD play application. The two versions support the same commands, but the mini version appears as a tool bar on top of your other Windows applications. You can easily switch back and forth between the mini and full-sized versions. Features include the following: * Play, Pause, Stop, Eject(PRD-250 does not support this function), Go to Next Track, and Go to Previous Track (activated by clicking on controls with the mouse) * Continuous Play and Shuffle * A program feature that lets you assign titles to CD tracks and arrange titles in a play list * A selectable list of all tracks on the play list that appears when you click in the timer window. 1.1.2 Photo CD Viewer Photo CD Viewer for Windows enables you to view, manipulate, export, and display Photo CD images. Photo CD Viewer includes the following features: * Displays Photo CD images in five resolutions, from thumbnail to full photographic resolution * Displays and transforms Photo CD images in 16 or 256 colors, True Color, or grayscale (depending on type of video card) * Flips, rotates, and crops images * Exports images as TIFF, RIFF, PCX, BMP, and EPS files * Creates slide shows of any or all images on a disc, in a specified order or randomly shuffled; slide shows can be controlled by a timer or with the keyboard or mouse. At least 8MBytes of RAM and a Super VGA monitor with 256 colors are recommended. 1.1.3 SCSI Interrogator The SCSI Interrogator is a Windows application that displays information about the SCSI devices on your system. When you double- click on a device icon you can view information about its supported features, manufacturer, model number, storage capacity, etc. 1.2 DOS application When installed under DOS, the following utility is installed on your PC. DOS CD Player 1.2.1 DOS CD Player DOS CD Player requires a VGA (or higher) graphics controller and either a color or monochrome display. To start DOS CD Player, change to the EZ-SCSI directory (usually C:\SONYSC), type the following: C:\SONYSC>cdplayer <Enter> You select functions either by clicking the mouse on a button or by pressing the Hot Key letter. For example, you press [P] or [p] to play and [Q] or [q] to quit the program. The Hot Key letter appears in white on each button. Command Line Options By default, the DOS CD Player plays CDs in the CD-ROM drive with the lowest drive letter. If you have multiple CD-ROM drives, and the one with the lowest drive letter is not the one you want to use, you can direct it to another drive with a command line option. For example, if you have two CD-ROM drives assigned to drive letter E and F, and you want to play a disc in drive F, start the program with this command line: cdplayer /f: Be sure to include a colon after the drive letter. DOS CD Player Controls ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Command Action ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Stop Stop audio play and return to beginning of current track Play Start audio play at current play position Pause Stop audio play at current play position Fast Forward/ Move forward or backward in 15-second increments Fast Reverse Eject Eject disc from CD-ROM drive (PRD-250 does not support this command.) Next/ Move to start of next or previous track(wraps around to Previous Track the first track from the last track, and vice versa.) Audio Mode Select Stereo, Left Channel, Right Channel, or Muted play CD-Time Mode Change time display to Elapsed CD Time, Elapsed Track Time, Remaining CD Time, or Remaining Track Time Play Order Select Sequential Play or Shuffled Continuous Play Quit(or ESCkey) Exit the program(If a disc is playing, it continues playing to the end.) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- You can start the DOS CD Player, begin playing a disc, and then exit the program while the disc continues playing. If you restart the DOS CD Player before the disc is finished, the screen displays the current track and playing time. 2. Windows 95 notes 2.1 Connecting the PRD-250 to your PC The PRD-250 does not have to be connected to your PC when booting. You can connect it after Windows 95 has started. PLEASE MAKE SURE THE POWER OF THE PRD-250 IS ON BEFORE CONNECTING IT TO YOUR PC. 2.2 Plug and Play You can insert and remove the PRD-250 PC card while Windows 95 is running. Please note, however, that you have to notify Windows 95 before removing the card from your PC. To do so, follow the steps below: a) Click the PC Card icon in the Task Bar. b) Click "Stop Adaptec APA-1460 SCSI Host Adapter." c) When message appears, click OK and remove the card. If you press the STOP button on the PRD-250 when the drive is connected to your PC, the drive will not be recognized by Windows 95 until the PC card is inserted again. To use the drive again, follow the above steps to remove the card, press the PLAY button to supply power and insert the card again. 3. Windows 3.1/DOS notes 3.1 Connecting the PRD-250 to your PC YOU MUST CONNECT THE PRD-250 TO YOUR PC AND SUPPLY POWER TO THE PRD-250 BEFORE YOU BOOT YOUR PC. If the PRD 250 is not present when booting your PC, the CD-ROM device driver will not be loaded. 3.2 Multiple APA-1460 PC card If two APA-1460 SCSI card are inserted in one system, the second host adapter will not be seen by ASPI manager. However, the first APA-1460 still operates normally. 3.3 New Media WAVjammer If you use the PRD-250 alone with a New Media WAVjammer PC card, you need to add /IRQ = n to the command line of the client driver (NMCMSSND.SYS). The 'n' should be an IRQ number other than the one that APA-1460 is using. 3.4 Suspend/Resume function Many notebook PCs have suspend/resume function. If you have a problem with this function when the PRD-250 PC card is inserted, remove the card before suspension, or disable the function. 1996 (c) Sony CorporationDownload Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
