   Introduction
   ------------
   This document describes the procedure to install driver on Linux 1.2.13
   and Linux 2.0.0 for CN930E PCI I/O Mode Ethernet adapter.

   LINUX 1.2.13
   ------------

   Location of driver  /linux/lin8029.tar

   INSTALL
   -------

   1. Login as a root user. Using "cp" command to copy "lin8029.tar"
      file from the driver's diskette into the Linux directory.
      # mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /mnt
      # cp /mnt/linux/lin8029.tar /

   2. Extract drivers from the "lin8029.tar" file.
      # cd /
      # tar -xvf lin8029.tar

   3. Configure network device and install network card.
      # cd /usr/src/linux
      # make config (answer yes on CONFIG_NET and CONFIG_INET and Realtek)
         a. "Network device support?"  ------> y
         b. When system prompts "Realtek cards?", answer 'y'.
         c. Then answer 'y' to the "RTL8029 support" item.
      # make clean
      # make depend
      # make zlilo (or whatever magic you usually do)

   4. Execute "reboot" to reboot the new kernel.

   5. Type "ifconfig" to see if the driver is brought up successfully.

   Location of driver  : use bundle NE2000 driver

   INSTALL
   -------
   
   1. Configure network device in Linux Kernel Configuration screen to
      install network card.  Type:
      
      # cd /usr/src/linux
      # make menuconfig

      a. Highlight "Network device support" and press <Enter> in Main Menu.
      b. Highlight "Ethernet (10 or 100Mbit)" and press <Space> in Network 
         Device Support menu to make '*' appear.  This will add more items
         for user to select.
      c. Move light bar to "Other ISA Cards" and press <Space> to make '*'
         appear.  This will add more items for user to select.
      d. Move light bar to "NE2000/NE1000 support" and press <Space> to make
         '*' appear.
      e. Pressing <Esc> twice to exit Main Menu. 
      f. Select "Yes" to save changes when "Do you wish to save your new 
         kernal configuration?" message appears.

   2. Compile kernel and build up a new kernel boot file. 
      At /usr/src/linux directory, type: 

      # make dep
      # make zlilo

   3. Execute "reboot" to reboot the new kernel.

   4. Type "ifconfig" to see if the driver is brought up successfully.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
