README FIle for 3D Blaster PCI
------------------------------

This is the Read Me file for the 3D Blaster PCI Windows 95 drivers
update, containing information on how to replace the 3D Blaster PCI 
drivers currently in use on your system with the latest version (v2.04).

This file contains the following sections:

1. How to install the latest set of 3D Blaster PCI drivers for Windows 95
2. What are the enhancements in this version of the drivers?

1. How to install the latest set of 3D Blaster PCI drivers for Windows 95
   ----------------------------------------------------------------------

   To install this set of drivers for the 3D Blaster PCI, follow the
   steps listed below:

	 1. Create a new directory on your hard-disk (eg, C:\NEWDRV)
	 2. Copy the new set of 3D Blaster PCI drivers to this directory
	 3. Click on the Windows 95 Start button, select Settings, and click
   	    on Control Panel
	 4. Double-click on the Display applet. This will launch the 'Display
	    Properties' page
	 5. Click on the 'Settings' tab
	 6. Click on the 'Change Display Type' button. This brings up the
	    'Change Display Type' dialog
	 7. You should see the entry '3D Blaster PCI' in the 'Adapter Type'
	    field. Click on the 'Change' button next to '3D Blaster PCI'
	    (this will bring up the 'Select Device' page)
	 8. Click on the 'Have Disk' button
	 9. At the dialog box, type in the directory path to where the new
	    3D Blaster PCI drivers are found (eg, C:\NEWDRV) and click OK.
	10. A new 'Select Device' page will appear. Make sure '3D Blaster PCI'
	    is highlighted and click on 'OK'
	11. The new 3D Blaster PCI drivers will now be copied to your system.
	12. The screen will now return to the 'Change Display Type' dialog.
	    Click on the 'Close' button (this will return you to the 
	    'Display Properties' page)
	13. Click on the 'Close' button.
	14. When prompted to restart the system, click on 'Yes'. After your
	    PC restarts, the new 3D Blaster PCI Windows 95 drivers will take
	    effect.
	
   Note: The instructions above may vary depending on which version of
	 Windows 95 is installed in your system. If you have purchased your
	 PC with Windows 95 pre-installed, you may be using a newer
	 version of Windows 95 (called 'OSR2'). 

	 To find out if you have the 'OSR2' version of Windows 95, follow
	 these steps:

	 (a) Right-click on the 'My Computer' icon in the Windows 95 desktop
	 (b) Select 'Properties' (this brings up the 'System Properties' page)
	 (c) Click on the 'General' tab
	 (d) Look at the entry for 'System'. If it states:

		Microsoft Windows 95
		4.00.950 B

	     then you have the 'OSR2' version of Windows 95. Older versions
	     of Windows 95 will just have '4.00.950' or '4.00.950a'

	 To install the new set of 3D Blaster PCI drivers on your system if
	 you are using the 'OSR2' version of Windows 95, follows the steps
	 below.
	 
	 1. Create a new directory on your hard-disk (eg, C:\NEWDRV)
	 2. Copy the new set of 3D Blaster PCI drivers to this directory
	 3. Click on the Windows 95 Start button, select Settings, and click
   	    on Control Panel
	 4. Double-click on the Display applet. This will launch the 'Display
	    Properties' page
	 5. Click on the 'Settings' tab
	 6. Click on the 'Advanced Properties' button. This brings up the
	    'Advanced Display Properties' dialog
	 7. You should see the entry '3D Blaster PCI' in the 'Adapter Type'
	    field. Click on the 'Change' button next to '3D Blaster PCI'.
	    (this will bring up the 'Select Device' page)
	 8. Click on the 'Have Disk' button
	 9. At the dialog box, type in the directory path to where the new
	    3D Blaster PCI drivers are found (eg, C:\NEWDRV) and click OK.
	10. A new 'Select Device' page will appear. Make sure '3D Blaster PCI'
	    is highlighted and click on 'OK'
	11. The new 3D Blaster PCI drivers will now be copied to your system.
	12. The screen will now return to the 'Advanced Display Properties' 
	    dialog. Click on the 'Close' button (this will return you to the 
	    'Display Properties' page)
	13. Click on the 'Close' button.

	    PC restarts, the new 3D Blaster PCI Windows 95 drivers will take
	    effect.

2. What are the enhancements in this version of the drivers?
   ---------------------------------------------------------

   The enhancements in this new version of the 3D Blaster PCI drivers include:

	* Compatibility with Microsoft DirectX 3.0 drivers
	* Optimization of DirectDraw and Direct3D drivers
	* Animated Cursor (when enabled) will not penalize performance
	  in Windows 95

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
