README.TXT Driver File Contents (win95inf.exe)

            

  -Follow these instruction to install the information file into Windows 95


  -This file is intented for use with the E-IDE controller card.

  -This file allows the Port Address and IRQ of the controller card
   to be manually set if the standard IDE Controller does not work
   with E-IDE card.

 -Refer to your system information. 
 ( You can know your system information, used IRQ,I/O address in properties
  under device mannager.
  Easy test method : run the program fv2.exe in dos mode 
                     under not install CD-ROM )

Click on START
Select Settings
Select Control Panel
Select "Add New Hardware"
Select "Next"
Select "NO" to select the driver manually
Select "Next"
Select "Hard Disk Controllers"
Select "Next"
Select "Have Disk"
If you received a diskette with the driver on it, put the disk in the drive
and select that drive letter
(If you Downloaded the driver,Browse and select the directory  
that you expanded the self extracting file WIN95INF.EXE )
and hit "OK" 
You should select one of "GoldStar E-IDE CD-ROM IRQ=XX Controller" List.
      ( Your choice should correctly match the setting of E-IDE Card or port 
        and not conflict other device.

        IRQ=10,I/O ADDRESS=168-16F,36E-36F
        IRQ=11,I/O ADDRESS=1E8-1EF,3EE-3EF
        IRQ=15,I/O ADDRESS=170-177,376-376(SECONDARY)
        IRQ=14,I/O ADDRESS=1F0-1F7,3F6-3F6(PRIMARY)) 
Select "Next" 
Select "Next"
Select "Finish"
Windows will ask you if you want to shut down, 
Remove the floppy Disk and select YES
After the computer reboots, the drive should be present.

  **  If the drive is not present, open "Device Manager"
      under Control Panel - System Select Hard Drive Controllers,
      GoldStar CD-ROM Controller, Resources and verify that the port address
      and IRQ are set according to the settings on the Interface Card.

  *** If the DOS device drivers(mscdex.exe) are loading in autoexec.bat,
      remark the statements out to eliminate any conflicts in Windows 95.
      You should not remove "gscdrom.sys" in config.sys for using ms-dos mode.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
