      This readme file is used to provide the information for installing and
      uninstalling "Envy24 Family Audio Controller" driver. VIA Technologies 
      assumes no responsibility for any errors in this document and no part 
      of this document may be reproduced, transmitted, or translated into any 
      language,or in any form without the prior written permission of VIA

1) Hardware Recommend
   The Pentinum II 266 MHz CPU (or Pentinum 200 MHz CPU) and 32 MB RAM are 
   recommended to keep the sound quaility.


2) System Requirements

   * This package can be installed for the audio device with chip ICE Envy24 Family.

   * The "Envy24 Family Audio Controller" driver package supports drivers
     on the following Operation Systems.

3) Package Version Identification

    1. In this package, there is a TXT file named Envy24HF.REV. The package
       release version can be seen in this file. ex. If 1.00 is seen in this
       file, the setup program will show 1.00 on the driver installation
       screen.

    2. The package release version is 1.00.

5)  Windows 98 SE (WDM) Driver
    =========================
    == Driver Installation ==   
    =========================
    
    a) Automatic Installation

       For Windows 98 SE, the Setup program will install the WDM driver automatically.
       Decompressed the zip folder and type

             D:> SETUP.EXE (where D equals the location of the setup file) 
             
       in the run command prompt or double click the setup.exe file. 
       After the system is rebooted, the driver will be installed completely.

    b) Manual Installation

       Under Device Manager, the message "PCI Audio Multimedia Device" will be displayed
       if the "Envy24 Family Audio Controller" is detected by the PCI enumerator.

       Set the source destination directory to "\WIN98SE" with the 
       "Envy24 Family Audio Controller" installation file, Envy24HF.INF.

       After the selection, the "Envy24 Family Audio Controller" and its subsystems
       will be installed automatically. 

    ===========================
    == Driver Uninstallation ==    
    ===========================

    a) Type 
             D:> SETUP.EXE (where D equals the location of the setup file)

       in the run command promopt or double click the setup.exe file. Select "Remove".
       After the system rebooted, the driver will be removed completely.

    Or

    b) Remove the "Envy24 Family Audio Controller" from the device manager.
       
       To totally remove this driver, the relative installation file "Envy24HF.INF" 
       under the "\WINDOWS\INF" or "WINDOWS\INF\OTHER" directory should be deleted.
       At the same time, the driver file "Envy24HF.SYS", under the "WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Drivers" 
       directory should also be removed. The driver will not be installed again after 
       the next boot.

6)  Windows 2000/XP Driver
    =========================
    == Driver Installation ==   
    =========================

    a) Automatic Installation

       Decompress the zip folder and type 

             D:> SETUP.EXE (where D equals the location of the setup file)

       in the run command promopt or double click the setup.exe file. Select "Install". 
       After the system is rebooted, the driver will be installed completely.

    b) Manual Installation

       Under Device Manager, the message "PCI Audio Multimedia Device" will be displayed 
       if the "Envy24 Family Audio Controller" is detected by the PCI enumerator.

       Set the source destination directory to the "\WIN2K" with the
       "Envy24 Family Audio Controller" installation file, Envy24HF.INF.

       After the selection, the "Envy24 Family Audio Controller" and its subsystems 
       will be installed successfully. 

    ===========================
    == Driver Uninstallation ==    
    ===========================

    a) Type 
             D:> SETUP.EXE (where D equals the location of the setup file)

       in the run command prompt or double click the setup.exe file. Select "Remove". 
       After the system is rebooted, the driver will be removed completely.

    Or
    
    b) Remove the "Envy24 Family Audio Controller" from the device manager.

       To totally remove this driver,the relative installation file "OEMx.INF" 
       under the "\WINDOWS\INF" directory should be deleted. At the same time, 
       the driver file "Envy24HF.SYS", under the "WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Drivers" directory
       should also be removed. The driver will not be installed again after the next boot.


NOTE: Please note, under Win2000/WinXP, the .cat file can not be installed from the 
      setup program (option a). To check the "Digital Signed file" from Micrsoft, 
      the driver must be installed using option b - through the Device Manager.


7)  Windows ME Driver
    =========================
    == Driver Installation ==   
    =========================

    a) Automatic Installation

       Decompress the zip folder and type 

             D:> SETUP.EXE (where D equals the location of the setup file)

       in the run command prompt or double click the setup.exe file. Select "Install".
       After the system is rebooted, the driver will be installed completely.

    b) Manual Installation

       Under device manager, the message "PCI Audio Multimedia Device" will be displayed,
       if the "Envy24 Family Audio Controller" is detected by the PCI enumerator.

       Set the source destination directory to the "\WINME" with the 
       "Envy24 Family Audio Controller" installation file, Envy24HF.INF.

       After the selection, the "Envy24 Family Audio Controller" and its subsystems 
       will be installed successfully.

    == Driver Uninstallation ==    
    ===========================

    a) Type 
             D:> SETUP.EXE (where D equals the location of the setup file)

       in the run command prompt or double click the setup.exe file. Select "Remove".
       After the system is rebooted, the driver will be removed completely.
    Or

    b) Remove the "Envy24 Family Audio Controlle" from the device manager.

       To totally remove this driver, the relative installation file "Envy24HF.INF" 
       under the "\WINDOWS\INF" or "WINDOWS\INF\OTHER" directory should be deleted.
       At the same time, the driver file under the "WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Drivers\Envy24HF.SYS"
       should also be removed. The driver will not be installed again after the next boot.


8)  Windows NT Driver
    =========================
    == Driver Installation ==   
    =========================

    a) Manual Installation

       Under device manager, the message "PCI Audio Multimedia Device" will be displayed,
       if the "Envy24 Family Audio Controller" is detected by the PCI enumerator.

       Set the source destination directory to the "\NT" with the 
       "Envy24 Family Audio Controller" installation file, Oemsetup.Inf.

       After the selection, the "Envy24 Family Audio Controller" and its subsystems 
       will be installed successfully. 

    ===========================
    == Driver Uninstallation ==    
    ===========================

    a) Remove the "Envy24 Family Audio Controlle" from the device manager.

       To totally remove this driver, the relative installation file "Oemsetup.Inf" 
       under the "\WINDOWS\INF" or "WINDOWS\INF\OTHER" directory should be deleted.
       At the same time, the driver file under the "WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Drivers" should
       also be removed. The driver will not be installed again after the next boot.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
