Please read this file before proceeding with the installation. ----------------------------- 3.0 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS ----------------------------- Use these instructions when installing the device drivers immediately after installing the Windows 95 operating system. When installed the Yamaha Sound System is classified as an Other Device. 1. During the installation of Windows 95 do not select any sound device when the Analyzing Your Computer screen appears. 2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 3. Double-click the System icon. 4. Click the Device Manager tab. 5. Double-click the Other Devices icon. 6. Select the first Unknown Device and click the Remove button. 7. Repeat steps 5 and 6. 8. Click the Refresh Button. Windows95 displays a new window saying that new unknown hardware has been found. This device is the Yamaha Sound System. 9. Select Driver Disk Provided by Hardware Manufacturer, insert the Yamaha Driver diskette into the diskette drive, and click OK. 10. The Yamaha Sound System is now be identified as an Audio Device. 11. After the device drivers install, Windows 95 AutoDetects the Yamaha Gameport and installs it. You will need the Windows 95 installation CD. Follow instructions on your screen. ---------------------------- 4.0 OVERINSTALL INSTRUCTIONS ---------------------------- If your systems has an earlier version of the Yamaha Sound System device drivers: 1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 2. Double-click the System icon. 3. Click the Device Manager tab. 4. Remove all Yamaha device drivers and click OK. 5. Double-click the Add New Hardware icon and follow the instruction on your screen. ------------------------------ 5.0 PLAYING SOFTWARE WAVETABLE ------------------------------ 1. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel. 2. Double-click the Multimedia icon. 3. Select Yamaha OPL3SA SoftSynth and click OK. 4. Open a media player and play a MIDI file. Use the Wave device section of the mixer to control the volume and the balance of the software wavetable music. 5. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel. 6. Double-click the OPLSoftSynth Icon and change the Quality setting to improve the sound quality. ------------------------------------------------------------ 6.0 PLAYING SOFTWARE WAVETABLE AND WAVE FILES SIMULTANEOUSLY ------------------------------------------------------------ 1. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel. 2. Double-click the OPLSoftSynth Icon. 3. Set the Quality, Reverb, and Filter settings. 4. Set SoftSynthWaveOut to Cooperative mode. 5. Click OK. ------------------------------------------------------------------ 7.0 PLAYING WAVE FILES USING COMPRESSION ALGORITHMS OTHER THAN PCM ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel. 2. Double-click the OPLSoftSynth Icon. 3. Set the Quality, Reverb, and Filter settings. 4. Set SoftSynthWaveOut to Independent mode. 5. Click OK. ------------------------------------------------------------- 8.0 USING SOFTWARE WAVETABLE IN A VIRTUAL DOS BOX APPLICATION ------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel. 2. Double-click the OPLSoftSynth Icon. 3. Set the Quality, Reverb, and Filter settings. 4. Set SoftSynthWaveOut to Cooperative mode. 5. Click OK. 6. Set MPU401 OUT to Soft GM. 7. Setup the DOS application to use General MIDI or MPU401 at I/O Address 330. 8. Start the DOS application. The sound quality should improve as compared to normal FM synthesis. -------------- 9.0 KNOWN BUGS -------------- 1. Auto detection mechanisms for applications running in pure DOS mode may detect the OPL3-SA as a Windows Sound System device not as a Sound Blaster Pro Device. 2. Advanced Power Management support is not available. 3. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
