SMC Networks 10/98 Overview The purpose of this file is to allow for the unattended installation of Windows NT4.0 Workstation or Server with the SMC EtherPower II PCI adapters. Supported Adapters: SMC 9432 EtherPower II 10/100 PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter This software distribution has unattended files and sample scripts for Windows NT 4.0 Workstation and Server. The sample unattended script is: unattend.txt Installation Steps: 1) Extract the Compress file. 2) Create a new Subdirectory structure on your Network Installation Server within the Windows NT distribution share point. The new directory structure is shown in the example below: EXAMPLE: F:\WINNT\i386 - Distribution Share Point on Server ADD: \$OEM$\NET\SMC - Directory Structure The directory structure once completed should look like this: EXAMPLE: F:\WINNT\I386\$OEM$\NET\SMC 3) Copy the SMC Drivers into the new SMC subdirectory: EXAMPLE: unattend.txt smcpwr2.hlp smcpwr2n.sys oemsetup.inf 4) If you are using your own Unattend.txt file please take note of the sections below. Please add these sections to your existing script file: [Unattended] OemPreinstall = yes [Network] InstallAdapters = SelectedAdaptersSection [SelectedAdaptersSection] SMCPWRII = OEMAdapterParamSection, \$OEM$\NET\SMC [OEMAdapterParamSection] Command line execution Start NT installation with the following command line {source}\winnt.exe /B /S:{source} /U:{source}\$OEM$\NET\SMC\unattend.txt Where {source} is the source drive and source directory on the distribution software server. In this example the share point directory is called F:\WINNT\I386. This Example assumes that it is executed from within the I386 Directory. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
