A) SMC Support Drivers for WFW 3.11

      SMC supports NDIS 2.0, NDIS 3.0 and DOS/ODI drivers for Windows
      for Workgroups 3.11.  A description of these 3 files are as follows:

      SMC1660.COM	A:\DOS		SMC EZ Card 10 ISA DOS/ODI driver


B) Install NDIS 2.0/ NDIS 3.0 Driver for WFW 3.11

NOTE: If the card is set to Plug and Play mode, the default, do not change
      the settings in the Setup Screen when installing the WFW 3.11 driver.
      If the card is set to Jumperless mode, the settings in the Setup 
      screen will need to match the card's settings. You can run SMCINST 
      and select the Hardware Configuration option to see how card is set
      before installing the driver.


    1.	Run Windows by typing "WIN" from the DOS prompt.

    2.	Click the "Network" icon in the Main Program Group.

    3.	Click the "Network Setup" icon from the Network window.

    4.	Check the drivers button.  If it is hidden and cannot be selected,
        go to the next step. If it is visible, go to step 8.

    5.	Click the "Networks" button

    6.	Select "Install Microsoft Windows Network," and then select 
        "No additional network."

    7.	Click the "OK" button

    8.	Select "Drivers" item from the "Network Setup" dialog box.

    9.	Select "Add Adapters." The "Add Network Adapter" dialog box
        appears.

   10.  If:
        a. You are installing this SMC network card for the first time,
           select "Unlisted" or "Updated Network Adapter." Click "OK," then
           go to step 11.

        b. You have installed SMC's network card before, just select the
	   "SMC EZ Card ISA 10 driver" from the drivers list table and
           go to step 12.

   11.  Insert the SMC Driver Diskette in floppy drive A or B, and
	then type the destination drive and path name.  Make sure the 
        full path of the directory (i.e., A:\WFW311) is given. Select "OK." 
        Then, you will see the "SMC EZ Card ISA 10 driver" dialog box 
        appear. Select "OK."

   12.  You will be prompted to confirm the I/O address and IRQ.  If the 
        card is set to PNP mode, the default, do not change the settings.
        If the card is set to Jumperless mode, the settings will need to
        match the card's settings. You can run SMCINST and select the 
        Hardware Configuration option to see how the card is set. The 
        default settings are I/O 300, IRQ 10 when changing to Jumperless
        from PNP mode. Select "OK."

   13.  When the Network Drivers window appears, you can use
        "Add Adapter" and/or "Add Protocol" to add more
        network cards (up to four) and protocols. Refer to your
        Windows for Workgroups manual for more information.
             
        o  To change the Base I/O Port and/or driver type, select "Setup"
           and make the appropriate selections. 

        o  There are 4 drivers type:
	   . Real mode and Enhanced mode NDIS
	   . Enhanced mode NDIS
	   . Real mode NDIS
	   . ODI driver

	You can select one of these 4 driver types depending on your
	application. The default is Real and Enhanced mode.


        o  Select "Close" followed by "OK."

        o  When prompted with the "Microsoft Windows Networks Names" box,
           select "OK."

        o  Follow the screen prompts to complete the driver installation.

      Note: The "Install Driver" window will appear. You will be
            prompted to insert the SMC Diskette. The driver's source
            path is A:\WFW311.

   14.  At the end of the installation, you will be prompted 
        to accept all the options you selected and restart
        your computer or to return to DOS. Restart your computer so
        your options can take effect.

   Some specifics of the installation process may vary according to
   each user's needs. Refer to the Microsoft Windows for Workgroups
   user manual for more information.

C) Install ODI/ NDIS 3.0 driver for WFW 3.11

    You must make sure that the ODI driver is loaded first before you
    install the Windows driver. If needed see readme.txt file in DOS
    directory of this disk for installing the ODI driver.

    1.	Run Windows by typing "WIN" from the DOS prompt.

    2.	Click the "Network" icon in the Main Program Group.

    3.	Click the "Network Setup" icon from the Network window.

    4.	Check the drivers button. If it is hidden and can't be selected,
        then go to the next step. If it is visible, you still need to go
        to step 5 to set up a Novell shell.

    5.	Click the "Networks" button

    6.	Select "Install Microsoft Windows Network." 
        Select "Other"  and then "Novell Netware Workstation Shell 4.0"
        for VLM or "...Shell 3.x" for NETX.   
               
    7.	Click the "OK" button

    8.	Select "Drivers" item from the "Network Setup" dialog box.

    9.	Select "Add Adapters." The "Add Network Adapter" dialog box
        appears.

   10.  If:
        a. You are installing an SMC EZ Card 10 for the first time, select
           "Unlisted" or "Updated Network Adapter." Then, click "OK."

        b. You have installed SMC's network card before, just select 
           "SMC EZ Card ISA 10 driver" from the drivers list table, 
           select "OK" and then go to step 12.

	 YOU MUST SELECT THE ODI DRIVER TO LET THE NETWARE ODI
         DRIVER WORK IN WFW 3.11.

       Select "Close" followed by "OK."

   13. When prompted with the "Microsoft Windows Networks Names" 
            box, select "OK."

       Follow the screen prompts to complete the driver installation.

   14. At the end of the installation, you will be prompted 
       to accept all the options you selected and restart
       your computer or to return to DOS. Restart your computer so
       your options can take effect.

    Some specifics of the installation process may vary according to
    each user's needs. Refer to the Microsoft Windows for Workgroups
    user manual for more information.



    NOTE: To connect to a Novell server from within Windows for Workgroups
	  make sure you are logged on to a NetWare server before starting
	  Windows. Also make sure that you have set up Windows for 
          Workgroups to use Novell NetWare.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
