ReadMe.txt Driver File Contents (FIRw95.zip)

This directory contains five files that implement the SMC prototype driver
for Infrared communication as described by IrDA, two INF scripts for
installing the drivers in the Windows 95 system.

        SmcSer  .Vxd -- port driver for SMC IrCC
        SmcSer  .Inf -- installer for the port driver
        SmcIrlap.Vxd -- Infrared Framer for fast speed SMC IrCC
        SmcIrlap.Inf -- installer for the framer
        Readme  .TXT -- Readme file for FIR install instruction.


Installation Procedure:

1. Pressing F2 enter BIOS Setup Menu select the "System Devices" option.  
   Enable "Infrared Port" and set "FIR" for the Mode.
   The Base I/O address recommend choose is COM2 IRQ3 DMA 3.

2. Change the Parallel Port Mode to EPP or Normal or Bi-directional mode.

3. Go to "Exit" menu and select "Save Changes and Exit" for reboot system.

4. There is a "Unknow Device" found after boot to win95 OSR2.

5. Put the driver CD into CD-ROM drive and change directory to IrDA-FIR
   for install the FIR driver.
   The device name is "SMC IrCC (Fast Infrared) Hardware and Driver (COM2)"
   should be appear in Device Manager/Ports(COM & LPT).

6. Install Microsoft IRDA 2.0 from "Add New Hardware" under Control Panel.
   Select "No", when appeare "Do you want Windows to search for your new hardware?"
   message in Add New Hardware Wizard. 

7. Choice "Infrared" than following the screen instruction to finish IRDA 2.0 setup.
   Choose "SMC IrCC (Fast Infrared) Hardware and Driver (COM2)" for connect device.

8. Put the driver CD into CD-ROM drive and open IrDA-FIR directory
   then right click on "SMCIrlap.inf" file by mouse and choose install.
   
9. Reboot the system into Windows 95.

10. You can select 4Mbps for transfer rate from Control Panel/Infrared/Option item.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
