(A) Installing the driver in Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
================================================================

    1. Make sure your computer is power-off.
    2. Plug the adapter into one of the PCI slots of your PC.
    3. Turn the power ON, then log into Windows NT as an
       administrator.
    4. Double click the "My Computer" icon.
    5. Double click the "Control Panel" icon.
    6. Double click the "Network" icon.
    7. If you have not installed Windows NT networking on your
       computer, a message will appear: "Windows NT Networking
       is not installed. Do you want to install it now?"
       
       1)If you see this message, click "Yes" button and go on
         with the procedure
         "(I)Install NT Networking and SMC1255FTX-SC".
         
       2)If you don't see this message, NT Networking is already
         installed. Go on with the procedure
         "(II)Install SMC1255FTX-SC if NT Networking is already 
         installed".

   (I)Install NT Networking and SMC1255FTX-SC
   ===================================================
    8. "Network Setup Wizard" dialog box will appear.
    9. Select "Wired to the network" and click "Next" button.
   10. Click "Select from list..." button.
   11. At the "Select Network Adapter" dialog box, click
       "Have Disk..." button.
   12. Insert the driver disk and enter X:\WINNT text box. Then
       click "OK" button.

       Notice: X: means the Floppy drive or CD-ROM drive,
                  such as: A:, or E: etc.
    
   13. Select "SMC EZ Card 10/100 (SMC1255FTX-SC)" and
       click the "OK" button.
   14. The adapter will be added to the list of Network Adapters
       on the "Network Setup Wizard" dialog box. Click "Next"
       button.
   15. Set your NT Networking Configuration. Please refer to
       Windows NT 4.0 related documents for more detail.
   16. After this is finished, click "Finish" button.
   17. When asked if you want to restart your computer, remove
       the driver disk and click "Yes" button.
       
   (II)Install SMC1255FTX-SC if NT Networking is already installed

    8. Select the "Adapters" tab, and then click "Add..." button
       in the dialog box.
    9. Insert the Driver Diskette.
   10. Click the "Have Disk..." button.
   11. Enter X:\WINNT in the text box and click "OK" button.

       Notice: X: means the Floppy drive or CD-ROM drive,
                  such as: A:, or E: etc.

   12. Select "SMC EZ Card 10/100 (SMC1255FTX-SC)" and
       click "OK" button.
   13. The adapter will be added to the list of
       "Network Adapters".
   14. Set your NT Networking Configuration. Please refer to
       Windows NT 4.0 related documents for more detail.
   15. Remove the Driver Diskette.
   16. Click the "Close" button.
   17. Restart your computer to initialize the network function.

(B) Configuring the driver on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0

    1. Log into Windows NT as an administrator.
    2. Double click the "My Computer" icon.
    3. Double click the "Control Panel" icon.
    4. Double click the "Network" icon.
    5. Select the "Adapters" tab.
    6. Select "SMC EZ Card 10/100 (SMC1255FTX-SC)" and
       click "Properties..." button.
    7. There are 1 items in the Setup box.

       ------Media Type
       .Specify the media type for the adapter.
       .Default: AutoNegotiation
    8. Click "OK" button to return to "Network" dialog box.
    9. Click the "Close" button.
   10. Restart your computer to initialize the network function.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
