SMC 10/100 PC Card
MS-DOS Enabler Program
SMCOPEN.EXE is the PC Card MS-DOS enabler program. You have to run
SMCOPEN.EXE to enable the PC Card before loading any of the MS-DOS
drivers such as the DOS ODI driver and the NDIS2 driver.
To use PC Card in a Netware Server environment, you also have
to run SMCOPEN.EXE under MS-DOS before startinging the Netware
Server. If you neglect this step, the PC Card server driver will
not work.
To use PC Card in the Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, or the
Windows NT environment, there is no need to run SMCOPEN.EXE.
You can run SMCOPEN.EXE from the DOS prompt, or to install
SMCOPEN.EXE as a DOS device driver in CONFIG.SYS. To use
SMCOPEN.EXE with the NDIS2 driver, you have to install SMCOPEN.EXE
as a DOS device driver. To use SMCOPEN.EXE with other drivers, you
can choose the way that is more convenient.
The syntax to run SMCOPEN from the command line:
SMCOPEN [/IRQ:x][/IOP:xxx]
The syntax to load SMCOPEN in CONFIG.SYS:
DEVICE=C:\path\SMCOPEN [/IRQ:x][/IOP:xxx]
* IRQ - interrupt (IRQ) number to be used by PC Card.
This number must not be in use by any other device
in the system.
* IOP - Starting I/O port address in hexadecimal format.
PC Card requires 32 consecutive free I/O port
addresses, and these set of addresses cannot be used
by any other device in the system.
The default value for IRQ is 3. The default value for IOP is
300 (hexadecimal).
Example: The following command enables PC Card with IRQ 5 and
I/O port address 300:
SMCOPEN /IRQ:5 /IOP:300
If you installed EMM386.EXE in CONFIG.SYS, please exclude memory
address range D000-DFFF or D400-D7FF from EMM386.EXE. SMCOPEN.EXE
uses this 64K bytes of memory space to read information stored on
the adapter.
[Example]
DEVICE=EMM386.EXE NOEMS X=D400-D7FF
or
DEVICE=EMM386.EXE NOEMS X=D000-DFFF
