This document contains two sections:

A) The upgrade procedure v2.x to v2.08
B) The upgrade procedure v1.x to v2.08
C) The firmware release history for SMC7908VoWBRA

Section A: Upgrade Procedure v2.x to v2.08
=========================================================================
Note: This upgrade procedure only works for devices already running firmware v2.x. Any devices running firmware v1.x require a bootcode update & have to follow procedure in section B. It is recommended to make a note of your configuration settings before performing the upgrade.

1.  Turn on the Barricade and plug it into your network adapter using port 1.

2.  Connect to the Web user interface by typing the Barricade's IP Address (ex: 192.168.2.1) in your browser. You will then be prompted to enter your password (default: smcadmin) to logon to the Barricade.

3.  Click on the "Tools" link, then click the "Update Firmware" option. The "Update Firmware" screen will appear.

4.  Click the "Browse" button and point it to the location of the firmware file (ARV4518HW-A-17-FW2_08_DP6_0_4_0.bin). 

5.  Next click "Apply" button and follow the prompts to begin the upgrade. You will see the message "Processing, please wait" and a percentage bar count up to 100%. When the upgrade is complete the Barricade will reboot.

6.  Your Barricade has now been successfully upgraded.

Section B: Upgrade Procedure v1.x to v2.08
=========================================================================
1. Press the reset button while powering on device and release after 2 seconds. The WLAN and PPP LED’s will flash on/off simultaneously to indicate the device is in recovery mode.

2. Enter http://192.168.2.1 , to enter the "Recovering tool". Note in recovery mode the device uses the default IP address (192.168.2.1).

3. Select Target: bootloader, and enter the full path and filename of the bootcode. E.g. C:/My Documents/iad-boot_v0.69d.0.bin. Alternatively you can use the “Browse” button to browse to the location of the file.

4. Click "APPLY" to process upgrade. After clicking “APPLY” be sure to read all warning messages carefully before proceeding.

5. After the bootcode has loaded it will return to the recovering tool. Click "Reset", then "Reboot" to restart device with the new bootcode. After restart completes power off device. 

6. Press the reset button while powering on device and release after 2 seconds. Immediately press the reset button 3 times. The WLAN and PPP LED’s will flash on/off simultaneously to indicate the device is in recovery mode.

7. Enter http://192.168.2.1 , to enter the "Recovering tool". Note in recovery mode the device uses the default IP address (192.168.2.1).

8. Select Target: runtime code, and enter the full path and filename of the firmware. E.g. C:/My Documents/ARV4518HW-A-17-FW2_08_DP6_0_4_0.bin. Alternatively you can use the “Browse” button to browse to the location of the file.

9. Click "APPLY" to process upgrade. After clicking “APPLY” be sure to read all warning messages carefully before proceeding.

10. After the firmware has loaded it will return to the recovering tool. Click "Reset", then "Reboot" to restart device with the new firmware.

11. To check the upgrade was successfull check the runtime code version in the “Status” page of Advanced Set-up.

1. Updated WEB UI:
  a. Added and modified description of VoIP Settings
  b. Added ISP: Versatel-PPPoE
  c. Fixed spelling wrong of ISP name: Strencom
  d. After finishing setup wizard, ‘Status’ page will be displayed.
2. Use new VP101 FW, and fixed bugs sometimes only one side can hear voice.
3. Fixed ringing problem. When unplugging ADSL line, one call to PSTN doesn’t make the phone connected to FXS ring.
4. Fixed telnet command bugs:

7. Modified code when receiving 486 busy code, it doesn't try to dial the second account.
8. Delete automatically all emergency call dial plans after upgrading from 2.07 or older version. To fix if users change the call number of 112 & 999 emergency calls in FW 2.05 or older version, there are one or two dialing plans being unable to delete in 2.06 or newer version.

v2.07
1. Added SNMP mode options: Disabled, LAN only, WAN only, and WAN+LAN.
2. Changed factory default settings:
  a. UPnP: disabled
  b. WAN: PPPoE LLC, 0/32. PPPoE username/password set to: username/password
  c. SNMP: LAN only. Note: after upgrading from old version to FW 2.07, it sets automatically to this setting if SNMP function is enabled originally.
3. Added VoIP provider: Netcall, and renamed all of their names.
4. Added one ISP in Netherlands: 'Pretium Telecom ADSL2+' for Annex A & B
5. Renamed the title of 'VoIP' to 'VoIP Settings' in Setup Wizard.
6. Added new feature: play tone when call is hold.
7. Downgrade old VP101 FW to fix user can’t hear voice problem.

5. Updated ISP information.
6. Changed the field of Telephony Country in VoIP->VoIP Extensions page: 
   a. Put the field on the top of VoIP Extensions page, and remove 'Line' title.
   b. Cancel the fields can set different country by Phone (SMC7908VoWBRB or non FXO HW).
7. Changed Connection Type of PPP is 'always on' when configure via setup wizard.
8. Fixed can't restore old version configuration. (Ex: 2.06 FW restore 2.04 config)

1. Fixed Wireless Security UI bugs: 
  a. UI doesn't check if key is valid when arrow focuses on any field, and type RETURN to submit      page. 
  b. UI always shows the last selected client type, even if user doesn't submit page. 
2. Adjust the frequencies and cadences of information tone.
3. Added VoIP provider list in VoIP->VoIP Account Page, and added 'Apply' button to assign provider settings to account fields.
4. Setup Wizard: 
  a. Fixed bug after submit wireless SSID page, it will directly apply to system configuration, even      if user doesn't finish the setup wizard. 
  b. Added wireless settings in 'Confirm' page.
  d. Added VoIP wizard page.

1. Fixed failover to secondary SIP server bug. Result: When the first account status is successful, and SMC7908 sends INVITE message, and there is no response until 7 times, it will failover to secondary SIP server.

5. If the display name of one incoming call is ‘Anonymous’, its phone number in log will be rename to ‘Anonymous’. Note: activate this feature only when both sides use SMC7908VoWBRA/B device 2.06 or    above. If callers use other product or soft SIP client, they still can see caller ID sent from    SMC, and this feature will fail.
6. Modified SNMP page so you can enable/disable SNMP management. After upgrading to this FW, SNMP function is disabled by default.
7. Play information tone only when state is ‘404 not found’ and country is Netherlands.
8. Remove 112 and 999 emergency call dial plans.
9. Update datapump to v6.0.2.0
10. Extended the cadence to detect incoming calls to FXO interface.
11. Updated Voice driver.
12. Removed VLAN field in PPPoE mode in WAN > ATM VC page. This field is invalid in PPPoE mode.

7. Fixed File Server (USB) bugs and fixed UI spelling wrong.

1. Failover to PSTN warning tone re-added.
2. Fixed bug: echo on line for Voip-to-Voip calls. The echo is introduced when both parties speak simultaneous.
3. Fixed bug: if you perform restore configuration operation, some configuration tables are missing.  If you then perform firmware upgrade, since the tables are missing, the configuration is reset to factory defaults.
4. Fixed bug: in multiple PVC environments, with multiple LAN subnets, traffic is not routed correctly according to NAT Mapping and Traffic mapping rules.

9. Fixed bug: ADSL DSP corrupts 4 bytes memory.

12. New Configuration Structure. Can extend configuration without resetting to factory defaults after a firmware upgrade.
13. Added Telephony tone country: Portugal. When select “Portugal”, Codec Rate should select “30”.

1. New VoIP module (Call manager).
2. Added T.38 Fax support.
3. Added support for up to 4 VoIP accounts.
4. Added secondary SIP Proxy server for failover.  
5. New UI: VOIP > VoIP Account and VOIP > VoIP Extensions
6. Modified UI:
VOIP > Port Advancing Settings:
Added fields: “Inter Digit Delay”, “Additional Ringing Mode”, and “T.38 mode”
VOIP > Dialing Plans:
Connection Type: replace INTERNET item to account phone number.

Add [Dial By] field. Can select which account to dial out.
VOIP > VoIP Status and Call Logs: Added more detail to call logs.
7. New Wireless and security module (5.6.2.22). Supports WPA2.
8. New wireless UI: Merge WEP, WPA, and 802.1X pages to security page.
9. Updated Firewall module.
10. Added TR069 module.
11. Only add VC1’s default gateway to default route, so must enter default gateway for each VC.
12. Modified Virtual Server: Can setup full LAN IP Address.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
