************************************************************************* * SMC Networks, Inc. * * SMC2682W EZ Connect Wireless Bridge * * * * Copyright (C) 2002 SMC Networks, Inc * * All Rights Reserved. * * * * Release Notes v1.7 * * Date Released: Sept 13, 2002 * ************************************************************************* ============ Introduction ============ This release package contains the SMC2682W Wireless AP/Bridge and its utility program, which can be installed by InstallShield installation Wizard easily. It includes a Wireless Bridge code (main program of Wireless Bridge). To revise the new firmware and web image in the future, users can use the released program “EZ Connect Bridge Utility” to update new image into the flash memory of Wireless Bridge. The update procedure will be described in the document as well. To Setup the Wireless AP/Bridge, please refer to the User Manual in advance. =============================== Hardware and Software Supported =============================== Hardware Rev: SMC2682W. WLAN Bridge Utility V3.1.5.0 can be used with this version of Bridge firmware. ======================== 0f0d0a00 Files Released: ======================== 0f0d0a00.img - Bridge firmware image 0f0d0a00 Firmware Update Procedure ======================== A.0f0d0a00 Warning Note: ======================== You must be running the latest firmware Version 0c1a found in this driver download package BEFORE you can update to Version 0d0a. If you have not yet applied Version 0c1a, please see the "0c1a_Update-Procedure(PLS_READ).txt" for instructions. Complete ALL the steps indicated in that document. After upgrading the firmware to 0c1a, please be sure to perform a Hardware Reset. (see HardwareReset.txt) After upgrading the firmware to 0d0a, please be sure to perform a Hardware Reset. (see HardwareReset.txt) ================================ B. Update Bridge Code (0f0d0a00) ================================ 1. Power on Wireless Bridge, then start up a PC and connect it to the Wireless Bridge through WLAN or Ethernet. 2. Run the “EZ Connect Wireless Bridge” program, and scan all the Bridges on the network. If any one Bridge is found, it will show on the list table. 3. Click the Bridge that you want to update from the list. If the IP address of your Bridge is empty (shown as “0,0.0.0” in the table), click the menu item “AP Operations --> Assign IP”, and apply the desired IP address. 4. After IP address is assigned, start the update dialog box from menu item “AP Operations --> Update FW”. Give the user name as “default” and password as “WLAN_BRIDGE”. Input the filename of Bridge code manually (0f0d0a00.img) or browse the file system by clicking “browse” button. After that, select “Update” button to start the AP firmware update. Wait 10~20 seconds, a message will pop up to tell you whether the update is successful or not. 5. When the update is finished and ok, power off the Bridge. Then perform a HARDWARE RESET TO FACTORY DEFAULTS. (see HardwareReset.txt) 6. Then power on the Bridge, click the menu item “File --> Scan” to scan the Bridge again, and it will show the found Bridge in its list table. =============== Release History =============== ** 1.7 - September 13, 2002 ** 1) Increase allowable oversize transmission of 'tagged VLAN' frames - up to 1536 bytes, instead of up to 1518 bytes. 2) Add hook to allow testing of old vs new roaming modes via the Bridge Name field which can be edited from the Accton Web interface. Will use raoming mode 3 (DISABLE) if a 'dollar sign' ($) is in the first character of the 'AP-name' string. If no $ sign, then use roaming mode 1 (AUTO). 3) Allow transmission of over-size 'tagged VLAN' frames. Thus, the wireless-bridge can be used as the trunk-link to connect two or more VLAN's. Will now allow up to 1518 byte frame to be transmitted from Ethernet interface. 4) Fix bug where an oversize frame would cause Ethernet interface to be corrupted.. 5) Leave default gateway address as 0.0.0.0 if not included in temporary IP address assignment from utility. 6) Add capability to send encrypted password when logging into web server. 7) Disable Authentication Filter (permanent nodes) when the last permanent node is deleted. This will then allow any wireless clients to connect. There was a lockout condition where the filter was enabled, but there were no permanent node entries in the table, thus no one could connect. 8) Add save the web start condition information in RTC RAM in the reset AP function. So we will not lose the web information such as current random number if reboot from SNMP manager. 9) Check the bridge capability before reporting the network mode. 10) Do not add AP's own address into the local ethernet address table to avoid the malicious packet which will have originating MAC address same as the running AP. This was causing the Net IP stack to hang. 11) Add filter to drop ICMP broadcast packets. (smurf attack). 12) Calculate and report throughput to AP utility. This is the aggregate throughput of the radio. 13) Change roaming mode to full Auto, as there was still problems of re-finding the Master if it changed channels. Now we rely on radio firmware in Bridge Slave mode to scan, sync and “roam”. 14) Improve detection of lost link in Bridge Slave. 15) Add Runtime check to correct working config values that are incorrect at power up, preventing a configuration that may result in an inoperable unit. This may happen when upgrading from an older version, that had incorrect defaults set. ** 1.6 – March 2002 1) Factory Defaults now set to enable High Speed Mode of PCMCIA slot. Performance increases by 10-15% with High Speed Mode enabled. 2) Fix bug in SNMP agent, where default values were being used in addition to saved SNMP settings whenever the unit powered up. ** 1.5 –January 18, 2002 ** 1) Fixed Input value is invalid when Network type if set to "Bridge Master" or "Bridge Slave". 2) Fixed Bank 1 crashing problem when it starts first. ** 1.4 –** ** 1.3 –** ** 1.2-October 15, 2001 ** BRIDGE FIRMWARE - - This release package added SNMP agent supported. - Apple talk compatible. - Added MAC filter function. - Fix the Bridge (Slave) re-learning problem. WEB PAGES - - Added SNMP Control page. - Added “Network Type”, “Current Channel”, “Tx Rate” fields in “Advance status” page, and shown status of “Rx Throughput”, “Tx Throughput”, “Signal Strength” and “Link Quality” in same page when the Network type is “Bridge Slave”. - Moved “Bridge Name” field from “TCP/IP Settings” page to “Bridge Control MIB” page. ** 1.1 –April 11, 2001 ** BRIDGE FIRMWARE – Fix the bug that Bridge (Master) will hang up after modifying the parameters in the Control MIB page and applying the changes through a wireless client in “V03.00.0B.0E”, included in previous released package V1.0. WEB PAGES – Fix the keyboard “Enter” command login problem in login page after input the correctly password. ** 1.0 – January 2, 2001 ** First release.Download Driver Pack
