	V.34 33.6K bits/sec
	-------------------

Your TDK DataVoice 3400 modem now includes V.34 data rates
up to 33.6K bits/second. To achieve speeds higher than 28.8K,
you must call another modem which also supports data 33.6K
connections. This applies to data only, and not fax.

Modems from US Robotics and Motorola connect at 33.6K with
your DataVoice 3400, as well as any based on a Rockwell
chipset, such as Cardinal, Supra, or Zoom.

The cover of your modem may refer to "28.8Kbps" but it is
really a 33.6K modem

	Notes for DOS and INSTALL.EXE
	-----------------------------

This program is for those users that either do not have card
services or, for reasons of memory conservation, do not want
to use card services. This program must be run in native
DOS. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE FROM A "DOS BOX" IN WINDOWS.
Also, this program does not work in Windows 95.

This program will create a directory called C:\TDK. It will
then copy file(s) from the TDKModem diskette to this new
directory. It will then run ENABLER.EXE and record the COM
port setting. The ENABLER will configure the modem for
operation in your computer. Finally, the INSTALL program
will create GOTDK.BAT which will call on the ENABLER with
the COM port already assigned.

After installing this software, you need only type "GOTDK"
after the modem has been inserted into the PC Card slot.
Again, this command must be issued in native DOS, not a
"DOS Box."

Many users like to have the modem inserted into the PC Card
slot prior to powering up the computer. They simply place
a GOTDK command in their AUTOEXEC.BAT file, which will run
automatically during the computer power-up.

	Windows 95
	----------

When the DFV3400 is inserted into the PC Card slot of a
Windows 95 computer, the computer will request the TDKModem
diskette. What happens is that it finds an INF file that
TDK has created for Windows 95. This file gives Windows 95
information regarding the modem. This information includes
modem features such as V.34, Class 1 and Class 2 Fax mode,
Voice capability, and VoiceView capability. It also
provides suggested initialization strings and other
configuration details. Thus, the communications programs
that interact properly with Windows 95 can obtain this
information. The benefit to you is that modem configuration
becomes automatic. You will be able to install these
programs without having to provide detailed and often
confusing setup information.

Just like with any other operating system, you may only have
one communications program using you modem at any time.
There are several programs in Windows 95 that may try to
have access to your DFV3400 while you are attempting
communication with another program. These programs may be
loaded during startup or at a later time. Simply switch off
these programs before continuing. Here are some of these
programs to watch:

	File Transfer
	VoiceView Auto Detect
	Dialer
	Dial-Up Network
	Operator*

* Note: If you have the Microsoft Unimodem V communications
driver installed on your computer, you may have the Operator
program automatically installed in your Startup folder.
Since this program cannot run simultaneously with other
communications programs and since there are currently few,
if any, programs that are compatible with Operator, you will
need to remove this program from your Startup folder. It is
probably easiest to drag this program from Startup to
Accessories.

Windows 95 - "Cannot Find File"
	-------------------------------

Some customers may receive error messages during
installation of the DataVoice 3400 in Windows 95. These
messages claim that the installation cannot find file(s)
from the Windows 95 diskette.

Sometimes Windows 95 forgets where it puts files. Many
Windows 95 installations which are preinstalled into
notebook computers store the necessary files on the hard
drive.

So, click "Browse" and find a directory which is named

	c:\windows\options\cabs
		or
	c:\win95\options\cabs

and click OK. The installation should conclude normally.

------------------------------------------------------------

	Stereo Headphones
	-----------------

There is an error in the manual regarding the use of stereo
headphones with the DFV3400. If you intend to use your own
stereo headphones, you may want to insert a mono-to-stereo
1/8" phono plug adapter. The headphone jack of the DFV3400
Headset Cable Connector is a mono output. This adapter will
allow you to hear the voice messages in both ears. The
adapter can easily be found at most stores with a stereo
department.
