Copyright 1998 Compaq Computer Corp. All rights reserved.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------

The installation procedures will automatically copy all required
files to your default Windows directory and will modify your
SYSTEM.INI and PROTOCOL.INI files. The driver options you select
determine which files are copied and how your system files are
changed.

File Locations

- The DOS ODI driver (CPQNF3.COM) is located in the \DOSODI
     subdirectory on Disk 2.

- The NDIS 2.0 driver (NETFLX3.DOS) and support files are
located in the root directory on Disk 1.

- The NDIS 3.0 driver (CPQNF3.386) and support files are
located in the root directory on Disk 1.

Installation Options

You can install Windows for Workgroups network support in any of
the following three ways:

NetWare Network Access Only
You will use NetWare for network access, and WFW will have
access to any available NetWare drives. You will not access
the Microsoft network, nor will you use WFW as a peer-to-peer
   operating system.

NetWare and Microsoft Network Access
You will be able to access the Microsoft network and use WFW as
a peer-to-peer operating system. WFW will have access to any
   available NetWare drives.

Microsoft NDIS Network Access Only
You will be able to access the Microsoft network only by using
an NDIS 2.0 driver. You will not be able to directly access
   NetWare drives.

NOTE: For Client32 installation on Windows for Workgroups, see
CLIENT32.TXT on the root of Disk #2.

Installing the Windows for Workgroups NetWare ODI Driver

Before installing:

Be sure Windows for Workgroups is installed on the workstation.
Locate the Windows for Workgroups installation diskettes and the
Compaq driver diskette. Make a copy of the Compaq driver diskette.
Then store the original and install from the copy.

Installing the driver:

1. Exit Windows (if running).

2. Copy all files listed below to a directory on your hard
     drive:

LSL.COM Link Support Layer (provided by
                  Novell).

CPQNF3.COM Workstation driver, in the \DOSODI
                  directory on the driver diskette.

IPXODI.COM IPX protocol stack (provided by
                  Novell).

     (req) Workstation requester file, such
                  as NETX.COM, NETX.EXE or VLM.EXE
                  (provided by Novell).

     NET.CFG Configuration file for the
                  workstation driver.

3. Verify that you can attach to a NetWare file server. Switch
to the directory where you copied the files listed in Step
2, and enter the commands listed below, in the order shown:

     LSL

     CPQNF3

     IPXODI

     {NETX or VLM}

     F:

If the commands are successful, the F:\LOGIN prompt appears.
If not, carefully repeat Steps 2 and 3. Most likely, the problem
is that all the files are not located in the same directory, or
you entered the commands in the wrong order.

4. Start Windows, open the Network group, and double-click
     Network Setup.

5. The Network Setup dialog opens, showing the current network
options and all currently installed network adapters. Click
     the Networks button.

6. On the Networks dialog, select the option to install support
for both Windows for Workgroups peer-to-peer networking and
NetWare or support for NetWare only:

(WFW and NetWare) Select Install Microsoft Windows Network.
Under Additional Network Support, choose Other.

(NetWare only) Select Install Windows support for the
     following network only.

7. Select your network operating system from the drop-down list
and click OK. For example, to connect to a NetWare v3.11
network, select "Novell NetWare (Workstation Shell 3.x)".

8. (WFW and NetWare) On Network Setup dialog, click the Drivers
button. The Network Drivers dialog opens. Click Add Adapter,
select IPXODI Support Driver (ethernet), and click OK.

NOTE: You will need to edit the AUTOEXEC.BAT file to add the ODI
driver. Sample statements need to appear in the following order:

         LSL
         CPQNF3
         ODIHLP
         IPXODI
         VLM or NETX

9. Follow the prompts to complete the installation. Restart
Windows to put the changes into effect.

NOTE: If you receive error 58, you have incomplete entries
in your protocol.ini and net.cfg files. Edit those files and
replace any instance of xxxx with the ODI driver name.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

these changes to your system files:

 PROTOCOL.INI: Under CPQNF3x, enter NTFLX3 for

        - DriverName, and set MAXTRANSMITS and MAXRECEIVES to 3.

        - SYSTEM.INI: Under Network Drivers, be sure "netcard"
             has only one entry: netcard=NETFLX3.DOS.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
NDIS 2.0 PROTOCOL.INI Parameters

The NDIS 2.0 driver has several parameters you can modify in
the PROTOCOL.INI file. Use the default values whenever possible,
as they maximize the performance of the driver:

     Entry Min. Max. Default

     DRIVERNAME 1 char.+$ 8 char.+$ NTFLX3$

     NETADDRESS -- 12 HEX digits --

     MAXREQUESTS 3 100 3

     MAXTRANSMITS 3 100 4

     MAXRECEIVES 3 100 4

     MAXMULTICASTS 1 32 16

     MAXFRAMESIZE 64 1514 1514

                    Possible values: Default:

     DUPLEX AUTO, HALF, FULL AUTO

     MEDIASPEED AUTO, 10, 100 AUTO

     CONNECTOR AUTO, UTP AUTO

     SQE AUTO, ON, OFF AUTO

     DRIVERNAME Identifies the network device
driver. Do not change this option.

NETADDRESS Overrides the network address of the
                 controller. Use this entry only
                 if there are duplicate addresses
on the network. The network address
value is a hexadecimal string of 12
digits enclosed in double quotes. The
                 opening and closing quotes are
required. An example of a network
                 address is:
                 NETADDRESS="20805F123456"

MAXREQUESTS Specifies the maximum number of
general requests that can be pending
                 at one time.

MAXMULTICASTS Specifies the maximum number of
multicast addresses that can be set
on the controller at one time.

MAXTRANSMITS Specifies the maximum number of
buffers that can be queued for
                   transmission at one time.

MAXRECEIVESS Specifies the maximum number of
receive buffers that can be queued
                   at one time.

MAXFRAMESIZE Specifies the size of the RECEIVE
                   and TRANSMIT buffers, in bytes.
Ethernet frame sizes must be between
                   60 and 1514 bytes.

DUPLEX Specifies whether to use Half- or
                 Full-Duplex operation on a 10 Mbps
or 100 Mbps controller. The duplex
option must match the duplex setting
of the Ethernet hub/switch to which
                 the controller is attached. This
                 keyword has two possible values:
                 FULL (enables Full-Duplex operation)
                 and HALF (enables Half-Duplex
                 operation).

                 IMPORTANT: Exercise caution when
                 setting this value. Setting this
                 option incorrectly could cause data
                 corruption and/or poor network
                 performance.

MEDIASPEED Specifies the operation media speed
setting, which must match the type
of Ethernet hub being used. This
                 keyword has three possible values:
                 1) AUTO (the card will determine the
                 proper speed, 2) "10" (forces 10-
                 Mbps operation), and 3) "100"
                 (forces 100-Mbps operation). Be sure
                 to use quotes when explicitly
                 setting the speed. (e.g., MEDIASPEED
                 = "100").

Note: AUTO works only when the
DUPLEX keyword is set to HALF.

CONNECTOR Specifies which connector to use when
                 several are available. The CONNECTOR
keyword can have two possible values:
                 1) AUTO (the driver tries to determine
which connector is active; use this
value if you have a BNC connector), and
                 2) UTP (forces use of RJ-45 connector).

     SQE (Signal Quality Check Enable)
                 Specifies whether to enable or
disable SQE detection when using a
                 BNC connector. This keyword has
three possible values: 1) AUTO (the
                 driver attempts to determine the
proper setting based on the module
                 attached), 2) ON (forces SQE
detection on), and 3) OFF (forces
                 SQE detection off).
