1. Supported Chipsets and Software
-------------------------------
This package provides support for the ET6000, and although the SuperPixel
Windows 3.1 driver is not fully compatible with DB versions of Windows
3.1, Asian language support for Japanese, Chinese (Traditional and
Simplified), Korean and Thai/English editions of Windows 3.1.
2. Foreign Languages
-----------------
On-line hints are provided in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish,
Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), Japanese, Dutch, Russian and Korean
for this release.
3. Windows 3.1 "On-the-fly" Support
--------------------------------
Because of the way the linear-address drivers initialize the registers,
neither "on-the-fly" resolution nor refresh rate changes are possible.
The VCP partially compensates for this deficiency by disabling driver
refresh rate support, and substituting its own code (VCPREF.EXE) which
is added to the Run field of the WIN.INI file. While this workaround
does allow "on-the-fly" refresh rate changes, it has the drawback of
requiring the screen to be momentarily blanked while VCPREF sets the
refresh rate.
4. DCI and DirectDraw Support
--------------------------
Windows 3.1x DCI and Windows 95 DirectDraw support is automatically
installed along with the VCP by the Setup program. Note that Tseng
currently uses the W32 DCI driver under Windows 3.1, which is not
optimized for the ET6000 architecture.
5. Windows 95 QuickColor
---------------------
This release incorporates our QuickColor code, which allows color
depth to be changed on-the-fly under Windows 95. Since these techniques
bypass the Win32 API and directly manipulate the GDI, we have taken a
rather cautious approach to exception handling: if a QuickColor change
fails, the display will default to 640x480 - a resolution supported
under all hardware configurations and by all monitors. The end user will
then have the option of restoring his or her original display settings.
6. Windows 95 Driver Compatibility
-------------------------------
The VCP has been tested and works transparently with Windows 95 drivers
from both the chip vendor and Microsoft. The VCP also autodetects and
includes optimizations for the WinHEC beta release of Microsoft Memphis.
7. Windows NT 3.5 and 4.0
----------------------
Drivers for Windows NT 4.0 are provided in this package. Drivers for
Windows NT 3.5 and 3.51 are available, but are not included in this
package.
8. AnyView for Windows 95
----------------------
This release includes Binar Graphics' AnyView 3.0 for Windows 95, which
duplicates some of the functionality of the Visual Power Tools, and
adds powerful virtual desktop features. AnyView is automatically
installed along with the VCP, but should *not* be run concurrently
with it. The VCP is designed to work with the ET6000 display driver,
which AnyView effectively replaces, and the two programs incorporate
fundamentally different methods of changing display settings on-the-fly.
(The VCP will automatically warn you if it detects that AnyView is
loaded in memory.)
NB: The unInstall program does not un-install AnyView, only VCP files.
* AnyView Get-out-of-trouble Hot Key: [CTRL]+[ALT]+[6]
AnyView has provided you with a hot key to get you out of trouble
quickly should you select a configuration that doesn't work properly.
Holding down the [CTRL]+[ALT]+[6] keys will reset your resolution to
640x480 in 256 colors.
* AnyView Back-to-last-mode Hot Key: [CTRL]+[ALT]+[B]
This hot key can also be used to get you out of an unviewable mode,
or just as a quick way to change back to the last resolution and
color depth you were in previous to the most recent change.
