Start Windows 95. 2. Insert the NewGen driver disk into drive a: or b:. 3. Open the "My Computer" group. 4. Open the "Printers" folder and select "Add Printers". The "Add Printers Wizard" appears. 5. Proceed through the series of windows presented by the "Add Printers Wizard" - selecting the "Have Disk" button when prompted for the type of printer to install. 6. Enter the letter of the drive containing the driver disk (from step 2). 7. Select the printer model to install. 8. Continue through the "Add Printers Wizard" until the installation is complete. NOTE: If you installed Windows 95 over Windows 3.x and you had the same NewGen printer model installed in 3.x as you are trying to install in 95, a message may appear after step 7 above informing you that a driver is already installed for this printer. At this point you can choose to keep the existing driver or to replace it. Select replace and continue through the installation process. Once installation is complete, delete the "NewGen DesignXP (copy 2)" icon in the "Printers" group. =========================================================================== Technical Notes / Hints =========================================================================== 1. The NewGen DesignXP printer is not "Plug and Play" devices and requires the installation method described above in order to be recognized by Windows 95. 2. The Restore Defaults button under the PostScript 'tab' restores the PostScript Header setting to the last saved selection. 3. The Restore Defaults button under the Details / Spool Settings 'tab' does not effect the Bi-Directional setting. 4. The Separator Page in the General 'tab' observes the settings in the driver not the application. This may cause some confusion if the user is not aware of this fact. The implications of using a Separator Page might best be described by an example. a. The printer is in a default configuration (Restore Factory Defaults), and has 11x17 paper in tray 1. b. The driver specifies a Separator Page but is otherwise in a default configuration. c. You specify an 11x17 page size for your print job in the application. d. The Separator Page observes the page size of Letter specified in the driver - not the 11x17 page size specified for the print job. e. Since AutoSelect is the default paper source, the printer will pull paper for the Separator Page from whichever tray contains Letter paper. The printer may prompt the user it it can't find Letter paper. If you want the Separator Page to print on the same size paper as your print job, be sure to specify this paper size in the driver (enter the driver through My Computer/Printers etc., NOT through the application). 5. Microsoft Word 6.0 shows all possible paper sources for the printer, even those that have not be installed. 6. When selecting Copies, always use the Copies option in your application - if one is available. Setting Copies in both the driver and the application may have unpredictable results. 7. The PostScript / Advanced 'tab' contains an option for "Bitmap compression". Selecting "No bitmap compression" will still result in compressed bitmaps on Level 2 PostScript printers. 8. The PostScript / Advanced 'tab' contains an option for "PostScript language level". Selecting "Use PostScript Level 1 features" will result in the driver constructing the document using Level 1 PostScript. However, printer specific features described by the PPD are Level 2 and will be included in the driver output. Attempting to print such a file to a Level 1 printer may result in errors. 9. N-up printing does not work with some applications. 10. Setting the "Screen frequency" in the Graphics 'tab' to a very low value may result in a PostScript error depending on the printing resolution. To avoid such errors, never set the screen frequency below 5.Download Driver Pack
