This README.TXT covers information that was not yet known 
or available when the user documentation shipped with this
product was written.  This  text file  includes  update
information,  additional  installation  instructions,
limitations to the current version of the product, and
suggestions to solve known issues or problems.
In all references to the ORINOCO product line, the Lucent
technologies WaveLAN product can be substituted.

1.  SOFTWARE DESCRIPTION

1.1 About this software
    The ORINOCO WaveMANAGER/CLIENT (WMAN_CL) is a diagnostic
    tool that you can use to verfiy the quality of your
    wireless radio connection to the ORINOCO network.

    The ORINOCO WMAN_CL tool can be installed on any computer 
    running the MS-Windows 95, 98, NT4 or 2000 operating
    system, which has been equipped with a Lucent Technologies
    wireless ORINOCO PC Card.

1.2 Files Installed
    The ORINOCO WMAN_CL tool installation is managed via an
    installation wizard.

    You can choose to start the installation wizard by
    double-clicking the setup.exe file which can be found:
    - On your ORINOCO CD-ROM in the folder:
       \software\pc_card\wavemanager client ieee
    - If you did download an update from the website:
       xxxx\wm_cl where xxxx is the directory in which the files
       where you placed after extracting them from the downloaded
       file.

    The installation wizard will automatically install the
    program files in the following directory on the hard disk
    of your computer:

    c:\program files\orinoco\wavemanager\client ieee

    Optionally you may choose to select another folder or 
    hard disk drive for installation of the ORINOCO WMAN_CL
    software.

    The following files will be installed in the specified
    directory:

    *   WMAN_CL.EXE        
    *   WMAN_CL.HLP        
    *   WMAN_CL.CNT        
    *   README.TXT

2.  SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

2.1 Operating System
    To install and run the ORINOCO WMAN_CL software you will 
    need the Microsoft Windows 95, 98, NT4 or 2000 operating
    system.  Support for other operating systems will become 
    available in a future release. 

2.2 Free Disk Space
    The installation of the ORINOCO WMAN_CL program requires a
    free disk space of approximately 3.5 Mb:
    * 300 Kb for the ORINOCO WMAN_CL application

3.  NEW IN THIS RELEASE

3.1 The Initial Dialog has been removed.
    The Option dialog has been removed. The program will always
    run in enhanced mode.
    The SNR levels and color have been changed.

4.  INSTALLATION NOTES

4.1 Standard Installation
    Installation procedures are described in the 'Getting
    Started Guide' or 'User's Guide' that came with your
    ORINOCO product. Please refer to these documents for 
    information about installing and configuring your 
    ORINOCO product.

    ORINOCO User documentation is also available in 
    electronic format on the ORINOCO Web Site
    (http://www.lucent.com/orinoco)
    You can download the documentation in Adobe's Acrobat
    Portable Document Format (PDF). 

    To view or print PDF files you will need the freeware
    Acrobat Reader included on this CD-ROM. Alternatively
    you can download the Acrobat Reader from the Adobe 
    Web Site (http://www.adobe.com/acrobat).

4.2 Removing the ORINOCO WMAN_CL Software
    To remove the ORINOCO WMAN_CL Software proceed as follows:
    1) Click the "Start" button on your Windows task bar,
       point to "Settings" and select "Control Panel".
    2) In the Control Panel window, double-click the 
       "Add/Remove" icon to display the "Add/Remove 
       Program Prperties" window.

    3) Scroll down the list of applications in the 
       lower section of the "Install/Uninstall" tab, and
       select the item ORINOCO WMAN_CL
    4  Next click the "Add/Remove" button, and follow the
       instructions on your screen.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
