Adding Wireless Network Adapter to Laptop with NT

Original 6/10/98
11/16/98	Updated with memory and IRQ config.

Windows NT is not Plug and Play so, the individual setting up the network adapter must do 2 things before adapter configuration begins:
1: Find an unused Interrupt (IRQ) and unused address space to place the adapter
2: Preconfigure the adapter (on a separate machine) to those settings.

To find an unused Interrupt:
	1) Go to "Start" ==> "Settings"===> "Control Panel"
	2) Double click on "System"
	3) Double click on Computer
Insure that the IRQ Button is selected
Find an available interrupt. Possible unused values are:
			5,7,9,10,11

To find the available address space, while in the System area of control panel...
	1) While looking for the IRQ, select the MEMORY button
	2) Find an address space of 0FFF units.
		My system had CE000-CEFFF open.
(Note, the last "F" is dropped when congfiguring the adapter, the address range above would be indicated as CE00).

To configure the adapter card to those settings:
	A) Using a DOS system with ARLANDGS (found on driver diskette)
Start ARLANDGS, It should find the adapter card and report the current settings.
Change the settings then select "Configure Adapter"
Terminate ARLANDGS and remove radio card and insert into WIN NT system.
	B) Using WINDGS and anWINDOWS system (Program found on Aironet WEB Site)
Configure the adapter to the settings found above.
Terminate WINDGS, remove the adapter and place into the WIN NT system.

To configure WIN NT for the Adapter:
Go to "Start"==> "Settings"==> "Control Panel."
Double-click on "Network."
Go to "Adapters" tab.
Choose "Add."
Insert disk with drivers and choose "Have Disk."
Insert the driver disk with downloaded drivers and select appropriate directory
and file.
Choose "IBM 690/2.4GHz PCMCIA LAN Adapter."
Click "Okay"
In "Adapters" tab, highlight "IBM 690/2.4GHz PCMCIA LAN Adapter" and click "Properties."
Change IRQ to 5, memory address to 0xD0000. (Replace 5 and D0000 with those parameters found and set above )
Set the remaining parameters as necessary for the access point to be accessed.
Click "Okay."
Click "Close."
Choose "Yes" when prompted to restart computer.
