Instructions for Installing AS/400 WIRELESS ADAPTER
                on WINDOWS 95

Revised: 1/15/97- Upgrade notes
2/4/97 Step by step added to bottom
           1/9/98 Updated for 12/97 version

NOTE: IF UPGRADING FROM A PREVIOUS VERSION OF THIS DRIVER, FOLLOW
INSTRUCTIONS AT END OF THIS NOTE UNLESS YOU ARE UPDATING TO THE
    12/97 VERSION THEN FOLLOW README.TXT !!

1: If Windows 95 was upgraded from either Win 3.1 or Windows
for Workgroups, the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files must
either be re-named or edited to remove unnecessary drivers.
It has been found that PCMCIA Card and Socket services used
under previous versions of Windows are retained under WIN95.
The WIN95 driver for the PCMCIA adapter expect to used WIN
95 card and socket services. Therefore, care must be taken
to insure the proper services are in use.

2: Installation can begin with WIN95 running. If so, insert
the PCMCIA card. WIN95 should detect the card and ask for the
driver. If WIN95 is not running, WIN95 should detect the card
at BOOT time and ask for the driver.
IF WIN95 DOES NOT DETECT THE CARD, VERIFY THAT ANOTHER
CARD AND SOCKET SERVICES HAS NOT BEEN LOADED IN CONFIG.SYS.
VERIFY WITH YOUR LAPTOP MANUFACTURER THAT YOUR MACHINE IS
CAPABLE OF USING WIN95 CARD AND SOCKET SERVICES. Many machines
require a BIOS update to run WIN95 !!

3: The default selection from the NEW HARDWARE FOUND windows is
"Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer". Click on
OK.

4:Insure that A:\ is in the windows of the INSTALL FROM DISK
window and click on OK.

5: At the SELECT DEVICE window, select the ARLAN 2.4GHz PC-CARD
Wireless LAN. Then click on OK.

6: At the ARLAN 2.4GHz PC-CARD Wireless LAN Properties window,
insure that the BusType is PCCARD(PCMCIA) and that the DataRate,
RadioChannel and System ID matches that of the access point.
The system ID for the PCMCIA unit is in DECIMAL. Click on OK when
done.

7: WIN95 will now copy files from the diskette. You may be asked
to insert WIN95 diskettes or indicate the path to the WIN95 System
files on your hardisk to complete the installation.
If you started the install from a system re-boot, WIN 95 will
now complete boot, or return to the desktop.

8: At this point the driver is loaded and the status lights on the
radio pod should indicate registered(one light on solid) and
communicating (other indicator blinking). The proper network protocol
must now be configured.

9: This is done by selecting the NETWORK option on the CONTROL PANEL
window in MY COMPUTER.

10: Select the ARLAN 2.4 GHz PC-CARD Wireless LAN line by clicking on
it once then click on ADD.

11: Select PROTOCOL and the click on ADD.

12: Select the protocol you wish to add and follow the instructions
provided.

13: WIN95 should complete the building of the driver information
database and return to the NETWORK window. Click on OK if done or
add other protocols.

14: At the SYSTEM SETTINGS CHANGE window click on YES to restart your
computer now.

15: As WIN95 Boots, a two tone signal is heard if a supported PCMCIA
card is found. With your LAN adapter card properly installed, you
should hear the signal for this card.

****** WHEN UPGRADING FROM A PREVIOUS VERSION ******
When upgrading from a previous version, you must FIRST REMOVE the
network adapter from the NETWORK window on CONTROL PANEL. DO NOT RE-BOOT
right away. NEXT, go into either a DOS screen or EXPLORER and
ERASE the following files:
From the WIN95 (might be WINDOWS directory on your machine), SYSTEM
directory, erase the AWCN.SYS file and the AWCNDIS3.SYS file if the
latter exists.
From the WIN95, INF directory erase the AWCN690.INF and AWCA.INF
if the latter exists.

STEP BY STEP for PCMCIA Driver

1) Bring WIN95 UP and running on the laptop.
2) Insert the PCMCIA into the slot with the radio pod attached.
3) The left light should be red
4) After a few seconds, WIN95 should respond with NEW HARDWARE FOUND !!
  Aironet Wireless Arlan 695......
Select DRIVER FROM DISK then OK
*** IF YOU DO NOT GET THIS, then your PCMCIA slots are not WIN 95
compliant and you need to use a different driver !! For THINKPADS
try the INTEL PCMCIA driver and not the PCI generic.
5) Insert the WIN95 disk into the A drive and the
Aironet PCMCIA Adapter...... Properites window should appear.
     BUS TYPE should be PCMCIA
     PreSID should be 0
System ID default is 402 set to your local setting.
     Select OK.
 6) The system now copies files from the diskette, CD or harddisk.
If your system previously had a network card installed then
   for netapi.dll select c:\windows\system (or c:\win95\system)
depending on where it was installed.
winpopup.cnt (new file from windows CD or diskette)
       net.exe c:\WINDOWS (or c:\win95)
       netware.ms...winpopup.hlp from CD or diskettes.

 7) You should get the RESTART COMPUTER message and do so.
 8) You should hear the WIN95 HAPPY BEEP (dit dot)that it recognized
the PCMCIA card. If you have 2 PCMCIA cards, you'll hear 2 beeps.

 9) Enter your network password
At this point, the lights on the radio pod should be green and
blinking. If the freq and datarate were correct, the left light may
be solid, and the right lite blinking.

 10) Now we'll set the freq and datarate (this step to be included in
number 5 at next driver release).
Select control panel from MY COMPUTER or SETTINGS on Start menu.
    Select NETWORK
Select the adpater card and click on PROPERTIES.
    Select the advanced tab,
Check the channel number 1-5, RF bitrate 3=1Mbps, 4=2Mbps, and
       System ID.
    Select OK.
 11) You may need to restart after this to have these settings take
effect IF you changed any of them. You can add or remove protocols
first then do one re-start to have all the changes take effect
simultaneously. If you add TCP/IP, be sure to set the properites
correct (IP address, subnet mask, gateway and DNS).

12) If all goes well, the radio pod should have the left light on solid
indicating registered to an access point and the right light blinking
indicating RF data being sent.
