READ ME FILE FOR IBM Drivers for WINDOWS 95 and NT

Version 1.0 12/16/1997 WFH
1.1 1/09/97 WFH Update for non-bootable diskette image

These drivers ONLY work on the LATE MODEL PCMCIA card. If your radio pod cable connector is approximately 5/8 inch wide or has the latches, then this code is for that unit. If the
connector is approximately 1.5 inches wide, use the older WIN95 driver.

To use these drivers there is a TWO part process:
Part 1:
The flash code on the PCMCIA device MUST be changed !!
Part 2:
Load the NEW DRIVERS into WINDOWS 95.

 PART 1:

BOOT A DOS DISKETTE WITH CARD AND SOCKET SERVICES.

 Start ARLANDGS.

Select UPGRADE FIRMWARE from the MENU.

Select 690IX118.IMG from the menu.

IMPORTANT !!! Either click on START with the MOUSE or press the S key !! Anything else
will take you back to the previous menu.

Your PCMCIA device will now be re-flashed with the new code.

When this process completes, the card will then be tested. Depending on the machine and the settings of the PCMCIA drivers you may experience an INTERRUPT ERROR during this self test. This error can be ignored at this point if this is the ONLY error received.

Proceed and exit the ARLANDGS program and go to PART 2.

PART 2:

Before beginning this section, you should have your Radio Parameters available such as Channel or Frequency, System ID, and NODE ID. If running TCP/IP you need your TCP/IP parameters as well although you can get them by looking at the previous device install when that time comes.

Remove the diskette from the drive and re-boot the machine to start WINDOWS 95. The operating system should detect a NEW PCMCIA DEVICE and request a diskette for the driver.
Using this diskette, (re-insert it into the machine) and select the appropriate device IBM Wireless PCMCIA adapter 2.4 GHz.

During this install process, you may be asked for WINDOWS 95 CD/Diskettes. These requests
can be satisfied by entering either of 2 entries: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM, C:\WINDOWS or for INF files C:\WINDOWS\INF. The request for the AWCN.SYS file should be directed to the A: diskette. In each case, C:\WINDOWS is the directory holding the WIN95 OS files. Your system may be different in that the installer may have used C:\WIN95 rather than C:\WINDOWS. Use the Browse button if you are in doubt.

You will need to insure the proper protocols are associated with this NEW adapter prior to exiting and re-starting WIN95 !! Look in your previous adapter settings (they arestill there) for TCP/IP address, and other parameters if you forgot them.

You must re-start WINDOWS 95 for these changes to take effect and use the new driver.

Your machine will now sleep properly although with some IBM laptops, one or both lights may stay on since the laptop does not drop power to the PCMCIA socket during sleep mode so the modem (if installed) can wake up the machine during an incomming call.
