3. Installation Notes
Refer to the PC Card User's Guide (see our Web-site)
for the installation of this ORiNOCO client software.
3.1 Upgrade from WaveLAN/IEEE
When you are upgrading your system from a previous version of
WaveLAN/IEEE (prior to the Summer 2000 CD / System Release 6.1),
it is best to delete the previous WaveLAN/IEEE driver and
utilities before installing the new software.
Remove the CQI and the WaveMANAGER/CLIENT utilities via the
Windows Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs function.
Refer to the PC Card User' Guide Appendix B for Upgrading the
Miniport Driver. Note, that the User's Guide does not specify
all the correct file names.
When deleting previous WaveLAN/IEEE driver files, after
removing the driver via the Windows Control Panel, delete the
following files if present:
c:\windows\system\wvlan41.sys
c:\windows\system\wvlanuif.vxd
c:\windows\system\wv41inst.dll
c:\windows\system\wvlninst.dll
c:\windows\system\wvlan41.hlp
c:\windows\system\wvlan.hlp
c:\windows\system\wvlan41.cnt
c:\windows\system\wvlan.cnt
c:\windows\inf\wvlan41.inf
c:\windows\inf\other\
Provider - Lucent TechnologiesWvlan41.inf
or: Lwvlan41.inf
The Client Manager is not compatible with all previous
WaveLAN/IEEE drivers. On drivers from before the Summer 2000 CD /
System Release 6.1, it reports "No wireless card driver present".
You need to upgrade to the new ORiNOCO Miniport Driver.
When during the installation of the Client Manager you have
removed the CQI and the WaveMANAGER/CLIENT, while you still
have the WaveLAN/IEEE Rel 6.0 Miniport Driver (version 6.00)
installed, you may get the message "The CQI tool is not
installed! To install..(etc.)". Please ignore this message.
You need to upgrade to the new ORiNOCO Miniport Driver.
The new Miniport Drivers require the Station firmware on the
card to be of version 6.04 or higher. Please run the Wireless
Station firmware Update utility (\FIRMWARE\WSU10728.EXE) to
update the firmware.
This firmware update utility requires the ORiNOCO Miniport
Driver to be of version 6.14 or higher, so you may have to
upgrade the Driver before running this utility.
3.2 New Card Firmware v7.xx
The new Station Functions card firmware is interoperable
with previous versions of the card firmware since v6.04.
However, if any cards in Client Stations are upgraded to firmware
v7.xx, we advice to upgrade all Access Points and Residential
Gateways in the network with the software provided as part of
the Spring 2001 Release.
