RIVA 128 Win95/Quake Driver Public Alpha Release November 1997 ******************************************** * * * Alpha Win95 / GLQuake drivers * * For use with Quake-compatible titles * * * ******************************************** This driver is NVIDIA's first release for Quake support under Windows95 on RIVA 128. Because of the overwhelming RIVA 128 user requests, we are taking the unusual step of making the driver available directly to the public. Future versions will be supported by NVIDIA but released to our customers and developer base. Performance on this driver is decent and expected to improve. On a 266MHz Pentium-II we measure greater than 30fps in Quake (timedemo demo1),and over 40fps in Quake2 (timerefresh). Playing Quake "in a window" is available with these drivers. Users are advised to proceed at their risk. Notes: 1. Drivers are alpha level and provided with no support. By installing these drivers you agree to subject your system to potential system-level corruption and hold NVIDIA harmless in that process. 2. These drivers are provided for RIVA 128 users who wish to evaluate a pre-release version of NVIDIA Win95/Quake ICD driver. Though they will run most applications, this driver is not guaranteed to run Windows, D3D or DirectDraw applications without fault. That means you may experience bugs in applications that you do not see with production drivers released by your board manufacturer. 3. Installing these drivers WILL DISABLE SOME PRODUCT FEATURES and/or UTILITIES implemented by the board manufacturer. If you cannot live without these features/utilities DO NOT INSTALL THE DRIVERS. You will have to re- install the board manufacturer drivers to re-enable these features. DO NOT INSTALL THESE DRIVERS UNLESS YOU FULLY UNDERSTAND THE CONSEQUENCES. 4. NVIDIA does not provide technical support; please do not contact us with bug reports on these non-released drivers. 5. Final release of a Quake/OpenGL driver will be performed by NVIDIA's board manufacturer customers. NVIDIA expects to release final code for these drivers to our customers before the end of this year. These drivers have been tested on Windows95/PCI and Windows95/AGP systems with NVIDIA's reference card, STB's Velocity 128 card and Diamond's Viper V330 card. This ICD driver has been tested only in Win95 and will probably crash if run on NT. Installation ============ - Copy all files to a temporary location on your system hard drive (such as c:\temp). - Use "Control Panel, Display, Settings, Advanced Properties" to change the display driver. - Click the "have disk" option, and path to the temporary location on your system hard-drive (c:\temp). The program will find the .inf file and copy the driver files to your windows\system subdirectory. Close the control panel and reboot when prompted. - After reboot, rename your existing windows\system\opengl32.dll file to opengl32.old or something similar that you can use for restoration. - Manually copy the file from c:\temp\opengl32.dll to the windows\system subdirectory. - Open GL Quake or Quake2 and rock 'n roll, baby. - Re-install your released (board manufacturers) drivers when finshed using your quake-based title. Known Issue =========== - Texture handling has a bug which causes textures to look incorrect; this will not otherwise affect game play.Download Driver Pack
