HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE SETUP

USB SUPPORT
-----------
When the DS3100DK is first connected to the PC using a USB cable, an on-board USB-to-serial converter IC is automatically detected by Windows and the Found New Hardware Wizard is automatically started. Follow these steps to install the driver:

1) In the first screen this wizard, select “Install from a list or specific location” and click “Next”. 
2) In the second screen, select “Search for the best driver in these locations”, check “Include this location in the search” and browse to the “USB” directory in the DS3100DK CDROM or downloaded ZIP file. Click “Next”.
3) Click “Finished”.
4) Repeats steps 1) to 3) the second time the Found New Hardware Wizard starts.

After the drivers are installed, whenever the DS3100DK board is connected to a USB port on the PC, the Windows operating system will see the USB-to-serial converter IC as an additional COM port. The DS3100DK software will automatically list the additional COM port in the PORT selection combo box in the upper left corner of the main window. 



LIMITATIONS

1. The DS3100DK software runs on Windows 2000 and Windows XP only.

2. The DK software does the writes described in section 7.10.7.2 of the DS3100 data sheet (data sheet revision 033007 or after) to tweak the analog performance of the LIU transmitter, but it only does these writes when the Tx Mode (DS1, E1, 2048 kHz) or TX Termination is changed using the combo boxes on the main window of the software. It does not do these writes when TMODE or TION are manually changed in the Register View window. (Note also that the values written to the addresses mentioned in section 7.10.7.2 can only be read if bit 0 of address 1FFh is high.)

3. Note that changes made in the Register View window are not always automatically reflected in the GUI fields. The only way to ensure that such Register View changes ARE reflected in the GUI fields is to press the Read All button in the Register View window.
