Overview

This is the Nvidia Windows 98 and Windows Me unified driver version 4.12.01.0650.  It is not certified with Microsoft WHQL.

Installation

Windows 98 Installation

1.  On your screen, locate and click the Start button.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, double-click the Display icon.

3.  In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab and then click Advanced Properties.
 
4.  In the Advanced Display Properties dialog box, click the the Adapter tab, and then click Change.

5.  In the the Update Device Driver dialog box, click Next.

6.  In the Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location so you can select the driver you want, and then click Next. 

7.  In the Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Have Disk. 

8.  In the Install From Disk dialog box, click Browse.

9.  In the Browse dialog box, double-click the folder C:\drivers (or the drive and folder you expanded the downloaded file to), and click OK.  

10.  In the Install from Disk dialog box, click OK.  

11.  In the Select Device dialog box, click OK. 

12.  In the Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Next.  Files copy to the hard disk. 

13.  In the Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Finish. 

14.  In the Advanced Display Properties dialog box, click Close.

15.  In the Display Properties dialog box, click Close.

16.  In the System Settings Change dialog box, click Yes to restart your computer. 

Windows Me Installation

1.  On your screen, locate and click the Start button.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, double-click the Display icon.  If you do not see this icon, click View All Control Panel options.

3.  In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab, and then click Advanced Properties.

4.  In the Advanced Display Properties dialog box, click the Adapter tab, and then click Change.

5.  In the Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Specify the location of the driver, and then click Next.

6.  In the Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box click Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location so you can select the driver you want, and then click Next.

7.  In the Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Have Disk.

8.  In the Install From Disk dialog box, click Browse.

9.  In the Open dialog box, double-click the folder C:\drivers (or the drive and folder you expanded the downloaded file to), and then click OK.

10.  In the Install From Disk dialog box, click OK.

11.  In the Select Device dialog box, click OK.

12.  In the Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Next. Files are copied to the hard disk.

13.  In the Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Finish. 

14.  In the System Settings Change dialog box, click Yes to restart your computer.


Removal

1.  On your screen, locate and click the Start button.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.  If you do not see this icon, click View All Control Panel options.

3.  In the Add/Remove Programs properties dialog box, locate and click NVIDIA Windows 95/98/ME Display Driver, and then click Add/Remove. 

4.  In the NVIDIA Uninstall dialog box, click Yes.

5.  In the NVIDIA Uninstall dialog box, click Yes to restart your computer and complete the uninstall.


Troubleshooting

If you are having difficulty installing the drivers or difficulties after installing the driver, try these troubleshooting steps: 

1.  Ensure all cables are securely connected.  

2.  Ensure the video card is fully seated in the AGP or PCI expansion slot.

3.  Set your display adapter to Standard VGA (See the Uninstallation section of this document for the steps to do this), and then reinstall the driver using the installation procedure in this document.  Do not miss any of the steps.  

4.  Try running GoBack if available. 


Reason for Update

This driver version resolves a known issue, 122933500 - Windows Protection or a Fatal Exception Error occurring randomly when shutting down Windows.  Driver incompatibility with games such as, Microsoft Midtown Madness, Microsoft Motocross Madness and Microsoft Motocross Madness 2, are resolved with this driver version.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
