3. Installation

3.1 Installing ELSA graphics board for Windows 95/98

Remove your "old" VGA and put the ELSA graphics board into your
computer. If your ELSA graphics adapter contains a VGA-switch,
be sure that it's position is set to the "1" position (VGA
        enabled).
On startup Windows 95/98 detects the ELSA graphics board as
"PCI early VGA Device" or a "PCI standard VGA adapter" and
prompts for a manufacturer disk. Now browse through the ELSA CD
and select the proper display driver subdirectory (eg. VICTORY\
3DX\WIN9x). Windows will copy the driver files and prompt you
to reboot the computer. After restarting, Windows is running
with the ELSA display drivers active. If your ELSA graphics
adapter is not the primary display adapter, you have to
activate it by clicking on the connected monitor bitmap in
the global windows display settings. The installation routine
will additionally create the ELSA Settings and ELSA DirectX
        Settings property pages.

In all following Windows sessions you can change the
        resolution without rebooting your system.

5. Release notes

        DirectDraw/Direct3D support

The display driver do support DirectDraw/Direct3D, but to
use it in an application, you must install DirectDraw/
Direct3D. The Microsoft DirectDraw/Direct3D components are
not included in the standard retail version of Windows 95.
You need an installation of DirectX 5.

To install DirectDraw/Direct3D start the program DXSETUP in
the directory \MSAPPS\DIRECTX5\DIRECTX on the ELSA CD.

6. Known Bugs and Operating Notes

This section documents known anomalies or problems and gives
        hints on work arounds.

There occur misrepresentation of colors and displays by
        viewing MPEG files with ELSAmotion.

To avoid errors in display, it is necessary to use the ELSA
Settings to switch between 32768 colors and 65536 colors.

Switching Duke3D between fullscreen and windowed mode
(using ALT-ENTER) sometimes crashes the system.

Switching the color depth while D3D-Applications are running
can result in system crashes or errors in display.

This display driver is for singlescreen use only in Windows98.
