SUPPORTED NETWORK CARDS SMC EZ CARD 10 Ethernet ISA Network Cards: o SMC1660T o SMC1660BT o SMC1660BTA SUPPLIED FILES SMC1660N.SYS NDIS3 MiniPort driver SMC1660N.INF Windows 95 driver information file for SMC WIN95\README.TXT Readme file NOTE1: The Windows 95 driver is already installed on the root directory of the SMC Diskette. You DO NOT have to install this driver by selecting the Software Installation option in the SMCINST program or by running INSTALL.BAT. NOTE2: SMCINST will run in Windows 95, but the best way to test the card is to shut down and then restart the computer in MS DOS mode. This way, you can be sure that no driver is loaded, so the SMCINST program will work correctly. NOTE3: A Windows 95 installation batch file has been included in the root directory of the floppy disk. The batch file is called W95INST.BAT. Execute this file from Windows 95 and it will copy the appropriate files and prompt you to reboot. When asked, supply the driver disk. This batch file also may be used to update an older driver. Install the SMC EZ Card 10 Ethernet ISA network card into one of the ISA slots in your computer. 2. Turn the power on, then boot from Windows 95. 3. Windows 95 will display "SMC EZ Card 10 Adapter" and "NE2000 Compatible" in the New Hardware Found dialog box. 4. Insert the Driver Diskette in your floppy drive. 5. Select "Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer" from the "New Hardware Found" dialog box, then click "OK." 6. Enter the driver pathname (i.e., A:\ or B:\), then click "OK" from the "Install from Disk" dialog box. 7. You may be prompted for Windows 95 installation files. If so, click "OK" and then type the path to your Windows 95 CD, or change the path to those files on your hard drive and click "OK." NOTE: If you are asked to "Select your Installed Adapter," choose the SMC EZ Card ISA 10 card, then click the "OK" button from the "Select Device" dialog box. 8. Follow the screen instructions to complete the process. 9. Restart your computer. Optional procedures to add network components and modify card settings o Double-click on the "My Computer," "Control Panel," and "Network" icons. The "Network" box appears. o Click the "Add" button. The "Select Network Component Type" box appears. Add the appropriate Client and protocol. Follow the on-screen directions. o Select the primary network to which you will be attaching in the "Primary Network Logon" list box. o For peer-to-peer networks, you may wish to enable "File and Print Sharing" in the "Network" box. o To modify other network card properties, select the appropriate tab or click on the "Properties" button from the "Network" box and modify properties as desired. (B) Installing NDIS3 MiniPort driver on Microsoft Windows 95 (OSR2) =================================================================== 1. Install the SMC EZ Card 10 Ethernet ISA network card into one of the ISA slots in your computer. 2. Turn the power on, and then boot from Windows 95. 3. Windows 95 will prompt with "SMC EZ Card ISA 10 Adapter" in the "New Hardware Found" dialog box and "NE2000 Compatible" in the "Update Device Driver Wizard" dialog box. 4. Insert the SMC EZ Card 10 ISA Driver Diskette in your floppy drive (A: or B:). 5. Click the "Next" button from the "Update Device Driver Wizard" dialog box. 6. Windows 95 will prompt with "SMC EZ Card ISA 10 Adapter" in the "Update Device Driver Wizard" dialog box. 7. Click the "Finish" button from the "Update Device Driver Wizard" dialog box. 8. Enter the full pathname (A:\ or B:\) of the SMC1660N.INF file, then click the "OK" button from the "Copying Files..." dialog box. 9. Following the screen prompt, insert the "Windows 95 CD-ROM" and click the "OK" button from the "Insert Disk" dialog box. Otherwise, enter the full pathname of the "Windows 95 CD-ROM" installation files in the "Copying Files..." dialog box, then click the "OK" button. 10. Windows 95 will copy the driver SMC1660N.SYS from the A:\WIN95 to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory, the driver SMC1660.DOS from the A:\NDIS\DOS to C:\WINDOWS directory, and the SMC1660N.INF file from the A:\ to C:\WINDOWS\INF directory. 11. Remove the SMC EZ Card 10 ISA Driver Diskette from your floppy drive. 12. Restart your computer so the network function can take effect. (C) Configuring NDIS3 MiniPort driver on Microsoft Windows 95 ==================================================================== NOTE: If you configure the card for jumperless operation, Windows 95 will not automatically detect the card when the workstation is booted. You may need to install the card manually. 1. Click the "My Computer" icon in the Main Program Group. 2. Click the "Control Panel" icon from the My Computer window. 3. Click the "Network" icon from the Control Panel window. 4. Click the "Add" icon from the Network window. 5. Select the "Adapter" item and then click the "Add" icon from the Select Network Component Type window. 6. Click the "Have Disk" icon from the Select Network Adapter window. 7. Enter the full pathname (A:\ or B:\) of the SMC1660N.INF file, then click the "OK" button from the "Install From Disk" dialog box. 8. Select "SMC EZ Card ISA 10 Adapter", then click the "OK" button from the "Select Network Adapters" dialog box. 9. Click the "OK" button from the Network window. 10. Click on "Properties of the SMC EZ Card ISA 10 Adapter." 11. Click on the "Resources" Tab. Specify the correct I/O range and Interrupt. These values must match the card's configuration, otherwise the network function will not work properly. 12. Click the "OK" button from the "SMC EZ Card 10 ISA Adapter Properties" dialog box. 13. The system will copy NDIS3.1 driver SMC1660N.SYS and NDIS2 driver SMC1660.DOS from the driver diskette. NOTE: You may be prompted for Windows 95 installation files. If so, click "OK" and then type the path to your Windows 95 CD, or change the path to those files on your hard drive and click "OK." 14. Once all the files have been copied, network installation is complete. You will be asked to restart the computer. Press "Yes" to reboot the PC. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
