1) WHAT'S NEW IN THE 4.15 SOFTWARE RELEASE
   =======================================

-Support for Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP and LEAP)
is now included. This feature supports mutual authentication
of the client using LEAP and a Cisco Secure RADIUS server.

-Support for PocketPC devices running Windows CE 3.0x has
    been added.

2) RELEASE NOTES/KNOWN LIMITATIONS
   ===============================

   Supported Environments
   ----------------------
   -Windows 95
   -Windows 98/SE
   -Windows Millennium
   -Windows NT 4.0
   -Windows 2000
   -PocketPC/Windows CE 3.0x

   Release Notes
   -------------
-In order to use WEP encryption, the user must enter a WEP key
using the Client Encryption Manager (CEM) first and then use
the Wireless Ethernet Client Utility (WECU) to then turn
    encryption on or off.

-In order to run a linktest, your PC must have TCP/IP support
installed and your Access Point must have an IP Address set
    up.

   Known Issues
   -----------------
-Under Windows 95 & and Windows 95OSR2, if using the IPX/SPX
protocol ONLY, the computer will Blue Screen when trying to
    browse the network.

-When installing in Windows NT 4.0, on some computers the
default resource settings may not work. If the card fails to
start when using the default settings, simply changing the
settings may not correct the problem. If this occurs, it
will be necessary to uninstall the card and then re-install
    it using different resource settings.

   Troubleshooting Tips
   --------------------
-Use IRQ 9 on a Dell CPI running NT 4.0 with Softex Card
Services for NT (Softex version 2.41 or higher must be
    used).

-Use IRQ 10 on a Dell CPI running NT 4.0 without Softex or
    other Card Services

-On Dell Cpi/Cpx models running Softex Card Services for
NT, use an I/O base address value of 280 (the default
value of 110 may not work). This needs to be set during
the installation of the card ((Softex version 2.41 or
    higher must be used).

-Use IRQ 10 on a Toshiba Tecra 8000 running NT 4.0 without
    Card Services

-Under NT 4.0, upon completion of the driver installation, if
the Access Point is detected but you cannot access the
network, try changing the IRQ setting.

3) IMPORTANT - UPDATING RADIO FIRMWARE
   ===================================

In order to fully support the features included in this
release, CreditCard Wireless Ethernet adapters that contain a
radio firmware version earlier than 4.23 will need a firmware
upgrade. Virtually all adapters that are currently deployed
and are being used with a previous version of software will
fall into this category. Cards that are shipped with this
release should already be programmed with FW version 4.23 or
   higher.

An image file (45c423.img) that contains an updated firmware
version has been included on this release. This file is
located in the "Firmware" subfolder on the CD (or in the
directory where the web download image has been extracted),
and can be used to update the firmware on your card. Follow
the steps below to determine the firmware version that is
currently present on the card, and to update it if necessary.

NOTE: DO NOT update the firmware on your adapter if you do not
plan to install the new drivers and utilities. Use of the
4.23 radio firmware on systems that are running previous
version of drivers and utilities will cause the Link Status
Meter utility to display signal status improperly.

To determine the firmware version presently on the card:

   1. Launch the Wireless Ethernet Client Utility.
   2. From the Commands menu, select Status.
   3. Note the Firmware Version that is indicated in
the list (it should be the third or fourth line
from the top of the list).

If you need to update the firmware:

   1. Launch the Wireless Ethernet Client Utility (if it
      is not already running).
   2. From the Commands menu, select Load New Firmware.
   3. Browse to the Firmware subfolder located on the CD,
or in the directory where the download file was
      extracted.
   4. Select the 45c423.img file and click Open.
   5. The card will be updated with the new code. DO NOT TURN
OFF THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS IN PROGRESS!!
   6. When the process has completed click OK.
   7. The card is now updated to firmware version 4.23.

4) NOTES ON USE OF EAP AND LEAP
   ============================

   Installation Issues
   -------------------

-For general installation information on enabling LEAP
capability see "Installing the Client Utilities and Enabling
LEAP or EAP" in the installation section of the online user
    documentation.

-Not all operating systems currently support EAP. The
EAP option will be disabled in environments where it
    is not supported.

-In order for LEAP support to be enabled, the "LEAP" radio
button option must be selected during the installation of the
Xircom Wireless Ethernet Client Utilities (when the Setup
program is run). If the "None" option is selected during
installation, use of LEAP will not be enabled, and the LEAP
selection will be grayed out when the Client Utility is run.
If the LEAP option was not was chosen during the initial
installation and LEAP support is desired later, it will be
    necessary to re-install the utilities.

-The Xircom Wireless Ethernet Client Utilites can be removed
via the "Add/Remove Programs" icon in control panel. This
re-invokes the Setup program and provides a removal option.
In Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000, if the removal is
performed while LEAP is enabled, some difficulties have been
noted with subsequent re-installations. For this reason,
it is recommended that the authentication be always set to
"None" via the Client Utility prior to performing a removal.

-In Windows NT 4.0, a "blue screen" condition has
been observed if the following sequence of events occurs:

    	1. The utilities are installed and LEAP is enabled
    	2. The Xircom utility is invoked for removal via
    	   Add/Remove programs
    	3. The "Modify" option is selected
    	4. The Authentication Method is changed to "None".

The machine may then blue screen upon reboot. Using this
method to disable LEAP capability after it has been enabled
is therefore not recommended. Instead, the "None" option can
be selected from directly within in the Client Utility to
simply turn LEAP off. If it is desired to completely remove
LEAP capability (so that the LEAP option is disabled within
the utility), set the option to "None" within the utility,
and then re-install the utility and select "None" during the
    re-installation process.

    Usage Issues
    ------------

-When LEAP is enabled in Windows 9x or Windows ME, a "Xircom
Wireless Logon" option will be added to the Primary Network
Logon drop down list in Control Panel > Network. This is the
preferred option to use as the primary logon when using LEAP,
and should be selected prior to restarting the system. This
option allows authentication to the wireless network to occur
prior to attempting to log in to other network resources
(such as a Windows NT Domain, Novell NDS, or other
resources). If the Wireless Logon option is not set as the
primary, the system may attempt to login to the other
resources before access to the wireless network has been
authenticated and established, in which case the desired
login will be unsuccessful and result in timeout problems.

-When using LEAP, you may notice an increased amount of delay
while the system boots before a logon prompt is displayed.
This is because additional communication is taking place
between the client and the authenticating server as part of
the LEAP authentication process. This does not indicate a
    problem with the card.

5) POCKETPC NOTES
   ==============

-The Windows CE 3.x drivers are intended for use ONLY on
PocketPC devices using Strong Arm 11xx processors, running
Windows CE 3.0x. Use on other machine types is not
    supported.

-When using the CWE on the Compaq IPAC with the PC Card
Expansion Pack, the expected run time for the Xircom Wireless
Ethernet Adapter is approximately two hours on a fully
charged expansion pack battery. The card will be shut down
when the battery life limit is reached.

-The automatic power shut off feature of the PocketPC will not
execute while the Xircom Wireless Ethernet Adapter is
installed and operating. This is a result of the continuous
interaction of the adapter with the RF network. Manual shut
off of the power will work, although once the PocketPC is
turned back on, the user must remember to restart ActiveSync
on the device to re-establish the connection to the host PC.
