The 3Com EtherDisk diskette and the Windows 98 installation files are

Installing Windows 98 with an OfficeConnect NIC Already Installed in Your PC
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
When installing Windows 98 (or when upgrading Windows 95 to Windows 98) on a
PC with an OfficeConnect NIC already installed, you must remove all of the
OfficeConnect NIC software from the PC and reinstall it from the EtherDisk
diskette that comes with your NIC.
To remove the OfficeConnect NIC software from the PC:
1. Open the Windows Start menu, and select Settings, and then Control Panel.
2. Double-click the System icon.
3. Select the Device Manager tab.
4. Double-click Network Adapters.
5. Highlight the OfficeConnect 10/100 Fast Ethernet NIC, and then click Remove.
If no NIC entry is found under Network Adapters, the NIC entry may appear
under Other Devices with the name "PCI Ethernet Adapter". Remove this
entry instead.
6. Reboot the PC. When Windows 98 starts and detects the NIC, insert the
EtherDisk diskette when prompted. Follow the instructions as they
appear on screen to complete the installation. See the user guide for
help.
If you do not follow the instructions listed above, you may see one of the
following problems:
1. In the Device Manager, the NIC is marked with a yellow question mark (?)
or a red X.
2. The NIC does not appear under Network Adapters in the Device Manager.
3. The PC does not operate correctly on the network.
4. When starting the PC, a blue screen appears and the system stops.
When this happens, the PC must be restarted in safe mode, and then
the NIC software must be removed as described above.
To start Windows in safe mode, press F8 as soon as Windows beeps during
startup. From the Boot menu, type the number of the option for safe mode,
and then press enter.
Upgrading from Windows 95 to Windows 98

the OfficeConnect NIC software from the PC and reinstall it from the
EtherDisk diskette. Follow the instructions in the previous section,
"Installing Windows 98 with an OfficeConnect NIC Already Installed in
Your PC."

Many PC manufacturers have designed an updated BIOS for Windows 98.
