Installation Instructions

-----------------

You should print this document for easy reference.


Installation Process for Windows XP:
-----------------


1. Download the file onto your hard disk or floppy disk. In your browser, click on the suprasst-2771_winxp_40504.exe file. Your browser should prompt as to where you would like save
the file. You should note the location (i.e. c:\windows\temp, a:\, etc).

2. When the download is complete, you should disconnect from the internet and close all open 
programs.

3. Extract the files from the downloaded file. Click Start\Run\Browse. Locate the suprasst-2771_winxp_40504.exe file on the floppy or hard drive.  Click OK and then OK again, or double-click the file icon.

4. A Self-Extractor window should appear.  "C:\SUPRA" should appear in the Unzip To Folder window. This is the default location.

5. After the files have been extracted, review this readme in notepad and print if necessary.  Close this window to exit the extractor program.

6. Power down the system and install the modem into an available PCI slot.  Boot up the system as normal.

7. Windows will detect modem as new hardware, and install it as a Generic Soft 56K modem.

8. Go to the Phone and Modem Options Control Panel.  Depending upon how you have Windows XP set up, this may be different.  Normally, you will go to Start > Control Panels > Printers & Other Hardware > Phone & Modem Options.  Highlight the Generic Soft 56K modem and click on Properties.

9. On the Driver tab, click Update Driver.  Choose to "Install from a list or specific location," Click Next.

10. Make sure "Search for the best driver in these locations" radio button is selected, and "include this location in the search" is checked.  click Browse, and highlight the folder that contains the drivers (this will be C:\SUPRA, if you did not change the default location).  Click OK, then click Next.

11. Drivers for the SupraSST V.92 will install.  Click Finish to finish the installation.  Now, verify the installation.


Driver/Installation Verification:

To verify that the updated drivers have been installed, you should do the following:

1) Go to the Diagnostics tab for your modem.  Depending upon how you have Windows XP set up, this may be different.  Normally, you will go to Start > Control Panels > Printers & Other Hardware > Phone & Modem Options.  Highlight the SupraSST modem and click on Properties, then Diagnostics.
2) Click on the Query Modem button.  After a few seconds, The ATI commands should contain information, including an ATI3 response of SupraSST V.92.

This indicates you have successfully installed your modem with the appropriate drivers, and that it is functioning correctly in Windows.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
