GENERAL NOTES
---------------------

1.1 Remove any existing Bluetooth transceiver device and its software before running Setup

You must remove any existing Bluetooth transceiver device and its software in order to use the Microsoft Transceiver for Bluetooth and the Windows XP Bluetooth update software. The Windows XP Bluetooth update does not yet support Personal Area Network (PAN) features, such as personal digital assistant (PDA) synchronization.

1.2 Previously installed pointing device programs must be removed before running Setup

IntelliPoint software may not function properly if a different pointing device program is installed. During IntelliPoint installation, Setup detects certain pointing device programs and provides the option to disable or remove them. However, it is recommended that you remove any previously installed pointing device programs before running IntelliPoint Setup. For information about removing a program, see Windows Help.

1.3 Logging on with a Guest user account during Setup may result in an installation error.

During Setup, you may need to restart the computer one or more times. Logging in as a "Guest" user account during the Setup process may result in an installation error. Setup requires that you be logged on as a user account that is a member of the Administrators group.

1.4 Disabling the PS/2 port in the BIOS program may result in an installation error

If you have disabled the PS/2 port in the BIOS program, you may experience IntelliPoint software installation errors. To fix this problem, enable the PS/2 port in the BIOS program before IntelliPoint software installation.

1.5 Installing IntelliPoint 4.9 over a previous version of IntelliPoint software may not maintain certain customizations

If you are using a previous version of IntelliPoint software and you install IntelliPoint 4.9, you may lose certain customizations, such as button reassignments. To fix this problem, you may need to update your mouse customizations after IntelliPoint 4.9 installation.

1.6 IntelliPoint 4.9 may have different features than previous versions of IntelliPoint software

If you are using a previous version of IntelliPoint software, certain features may not be available after installing IntelliPoint 4.9. IntelliPoint 4.9 may have different features than previous versions of IntelliPoint software.

1.7 Microsoft Wireless Transceiver for Bluetooth requires a powered USB port

You must plug the Wireless Transceiver for Bluetooth into a powered Universal Serial Bus (USB) port. Plugging it into a non-powered USB port may result in the device not working properly.

1.8 Using multiple Bluetooth transceivers not supported

Windows XP only supports the use of a single connected Bluetooth transceiver. Having multiple Bluetooth transceivers connected may result in the Bluetooth devices not working properly.

1.9 Pressing the connect button when the mouse is out of range or the computer is shut down may result in connection errors

If you press the connect button on the bottom of the mouse when the computer cannot receive information from the mouse (for example, the mouse is out of range or the computer is shut down), you may experience a connection error. In this situation, the computer is still connected to the mouse, but the mouse is no longer connected to the computer. To fix this problem, open the Windows Wireless Control Panel, remove the wireless mouse from the device list, and then run the Connection Wizard from the IntelliPoint Wireless tab.

1.10 Mouse may not respond immediately if it is in low-power mode

To preserve battery power, Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer for Bluetooth enters a low-power state when not in use for a period of time. If the mouse is in a low-power state, there may be a delay of a few seconds before button presses or wheel rolls are recognized.

1.11 Low battery power level may result in mouse errors

If the mouse battery power level is low and you are experiencing erratic mouse response, replacing the batteries may fix the problem.

1.12 Bluetooth devices may not work in Windows Safe Mode, in the BIOS program, or when Windows is not running

If your system does not provide boot-level Bluetooth support, Bluetooth devices may not work in Windows Safe Mode or when Windows is not running. For situations such as working in DOS, running Windows Safe Mode, or changing the BIOS settings, you may require a wired mouse.

1.13 Using the mouse to resume from power management mode

The way to resume computer operation from power management mode depends on the system settings and hardware. Typically, you can resume operation by moving the mouse, pressing a key on the keyboard, or quickly pressing the power button on the computer. However, you may not be able to resume operation from certain power management states (such as suspend or hibernation) using Bluetooth devices. In certain low-power states, the wireless transceiver may not be able to receive information from the Bluetooth devices.

For more information about how your system resumes operation, see the documentation that accompanied your computer or contact the computer manufacturer.

1.14 Reassigned button commands may not work as expected for certain programs or games

If you reassigned a button to a command that is different than its default command, it may not work as expected in certain programs or games. Certain programs or games may not support the IntelliPoint customized button assignments.

1.15 Using Microsoft pointing devices and IntelliPoint software on Windows Terminal Services or Remote Desktop

Only the primary and secondary buttons on Microsoft pointing devices are supported for use with Windows NT(r) or Windows 2000 Terminal Services or Windows XP Professional Remote Desktop. Other buttons (available on certain Microsoft pointing devices only) or IntelliPoint software features, such as customized button assignments, may not work as expected.

1.16 Viewing documentation with larger fonts set in Windows Display

Using Large Fonts or a larger custom font size for the Windows Display Font Size setting may result in improper display of the documentation installed with IntelliPoint software, such as the User's Guide. To change the Windows Display Font Size to the default setting, see Windows Help.

1.17 After removing IntelliPoint software, the links to start IntelliPoint in the documentation open the Mouse Properties dialog box

During IntelliPoint software removal, there is an option to save the Microsoft pointing device documentation to the Windows desktop. This documentation contains links to start IntelliPoint software, which provides enhanced features and additional tabs to the Mouse Properties dialog box. After IntelliPoint software is removed, the documentation links continue to open the Mouse Properties dialog box, without the IntelliPoint enhancements.
