---------------------
GENERAL NOTES
---------------------

1.1 Remove any existing Bluetooth transceiver device and its software before running Setup

You must remove any existing Bluetooth transceiver device and its software in order to use the Microsoft Transceiver for Bluetooth and the Windows XP Bluetooth update software. The Windows XP Bluetooth update does not yet support Personal Area Network (PAN) features, such as personal digital assistant (PDA) synchronization.

1.2 Logging on with a Guest user account during Setup may result in an installation error

During Setup, you may need to restart the computer one or more times. Logging in as a "Guest" user account during the Setup process may result in an installation error. Setup requires that you be logged on as a user account that is a member of the Administrators group.

1.3 Microsoft Wireless Transceiver for Bluetooth requires a powered USB port

You must plug the Wireless Transceiver for Bluetooth into a powered Universal Serial Bus (USB) port. Plugging it into a non-powered USB port may result in the device not working properly.

1.4 Using multiple Bluetooth transceivers not supported

Windows XP only supports the use of a single connected Bluetooth transceiver. Having multiple Bluetooth transceivers connected may result in the Bluetooth devices not working properly.

1.5 Pressing the connect button when the keyboard is out of range or the computer is shut down may result in connection errors

If you press the connect button on the bottom of the keyboard when the computer cannot receive information from the keyboard (for example, the keyboard is out of range or the computer is shut down), you may experience a connection error. In this situation, the computer is still connected with the keyboard, but the keyboard is no longer connected to the computer. To fix this problem, open the Windows Wireless Control Panel, remove the wireless keyboard from the device list, and then run the Connection Wizard from the IntelliType Pro Wireless tab.

1.6 Keyboard may not respond immediately if it is in low-power mode

To preserve battery power, the Wireless Optical Desktop for Bluetooth keyboard enters a low-power state when not in use for a period of time. If the keyboard is in a low-power state, there may be a delay of a few seconds before key presses are transmitted to the computer.

1.7 Low battery power level may result in keyboard errors

If the keyboard battery power level is low and you are experiencing erratic keyboard response, replacing the batteries may fix the problem.

1.8 Bluetooth devices may not work in Windows Safe Mode, in the BIOS program, or when Windows is not running

If your system does not provide boot-level Bluetooth support, Bluetooth devices may not work in Windows Safe Mode or when Windows is not running. For situations such as working in DOS, running Windows Safe Mode, or changing the BIOS settings, you may require a wired keyboard.

1.9 BIOS program may display a keyboard error message with a Bluetooth keyboard connected

Certain BIOS programs display an error message on startup when there is no recognized keyboard connected. If your BIOS program does not recognize devices connected using Bluetooth wireless technology, you may receive this BIOS keyboard error. Some BIOS programs may allow computer startup to continue after displaying a keyboard error, but generally require keyboard input to do so. To solve this problem, turn off the computer and connect a wired PS/2 keyboard to the computer. Restart the computer, enter the BIOS program, and then disable the keyboard error setting. If the BIOS program does not provide an option to disable keyboard error notification, an updated BIOS program may be available that has this option. For more information about changing BIOS settings or updating the BIOS program, refer to the documentation that accompanied your computer. Another way to solve this problem is to keep a PS/2 keyboard connected to the computer.

1.10 Viewing documentation with larger fonts set in Windows Display

Using Large Fonts or a larger custom font size for the Windows Display Font Size setting may result in improper display of the documentation installed with IntelliType Pro software, such as the User's Guide. To change the Windows Display Font Size to the default setting, see Windows Help.

1.11 Using the F-LOCK toggle key to access system key commands

You need to turn F LOCK on to access the system key commands labeled on the front of the keys, INSERT and SCROLL LOCK.

1.12 Viewing the status of toggle keys

To preserve battery life, an on-screen display (rather than a keyboard light) indicates the status of the CAPS LOCK, NUM LOCK, F LOCK, and SCROLL LOCK toggle keys. You must install IntelliType Pro software for the toggle key status to be displayed on the screen. IntelliType Pro software provides the option to disable the on-screen display of toggle key status. For more information, see the User's Guide installed with IntelliType Pro software.

1.13 Using the Sleep Hot Key

The Sleep Hot Key puts the system into power management mode (such as standby, suspend, or hibernation) if the system supports power management and has it enabled. If power management is not enabled, this Hot Key will not work and it cannot be reassigned because it is a system key. To use Windows power management features, you must have a computer that is set up by the manufacturer to support these features. To see if your system supports Windows power management features, refer to the documentation that accompanied your computer or contact the computer manufacturer. You may also need to turn these features on in the Windows Power Options Control Panel. For more information about Windows power management features, see Windows Help.

1.14 Using the keyboard to resume from power management mode

The way to resume computer operation from power management mode depends on the system settings and hardware. Typically, you can resume operation by pressing the Sleep Hot Key, pressing a standard key on the keyboard, moving the mouse, or quickly pressing the power button on the computer. However, you may not be able to resume operation from certain power management states (such as suspend or hibernation) using Bluetooth devices. In certain low-power states, the wireless transceiver may not be able to receive information from the Bluetooth devices.

For more information about how your system resumes operation, see the documentation that accompanied your computer or contact the computer manufacturer.

1.15 Using the Internet Hot Keys with America Online

You can set the Web/Home, Search, and Favorites Hot Keys to start America Online (AOL), but you must first update the AOL settings so that AOL is the default browser. For information about setting AOL as the default browser, refer to the documentation accompanying AOL.

1.16 Using the Mail Hot Key with America Online

You can set the Mail Hot Key to start America Online (AOL) and go to mail, but you must first update the AOL settings so that AOL is the default browser and the AOL password is saved.

1.17 Pressing modifier keys while pressing Hot Keys

If you press a modifier key (such as SHIFT, CONTROL, ALT, and Windows logo) while pressing a Hot Key, the Hot Key may not function or may produce a different command. Some Hot Keys produce keyboard shortcut commands that may be altered when pressing a modifier key at the same time.

1.18 Speech commands that you can assign to a customizable key only work if there is an Office XP speech recognition engine installed

IntelliType Pro software lets you reassign keys to use speech commands, such as "Dictate/Command & Control mode toggle." However, these commands only work when there is an Office XP speech recognition engine installed. Office XP includes a speech recognition engine for certain languages. To find out if the Office XP language version you are using includes a speech recognition engine, refer to the Office XP documentation. If the Office XP language version you are using does not include a speech recognition engine, an add-on speech recognition engine may be available. For more information, refer to the Office XP documentation or go to:
http://www.microsoft.com

1.19 Using Microsoft keyboards and IntelliType Pro software on Windows Terminal Services or Remote Desktop

Microsoft keyboards and IntelliType Pro software are not supported for use with Windows NT(r) or Windows 2000 Terminal Services or Windows XP Professional Remote Desktop, and some features may not work as expected.
